Ting tar tid. Vi hadde første stopp i Grafton, her ... read more

... read more

Happy New Year from Australia! My week and a bit in Sydney is almost up and I have really enjoyed my time here. We arrived late last Sunday and headed straight for a house party with the guys we have been staying with (big thank you to the one and only Tom Dillnot-Smith for putting us up for the week). My first day here was all about relaxing after the crazy few weeks of intense traveling down the East Coast. I caught up on a lot of sleep and hit the supermarket for some greatly needed supplies. Also, just for the record, I think I made the greatest sandwich known to man that day. It was awesome. Day 2 was sight seeing time. We took the train into the city centre and then caught the ferry ... read more

The next day we caught our flight in the evening to Sydney, arriving at 8 in the morning. After much effort Amel had managed to organise a couchsurf in Sydney with Lois and her family. She lives about 30 minutes outside Sydney, on the train line from the airport so getting to hers with all our bags was easy. Lois kindly picked us up from the airport. They have a lovely house with swimming pool, a great place to recover from jet lag. Lois lives there with her husband Rodney and children, Joel and Emma. Lois is a fitness instructor with a bit of a passion for cycling and had no problem dropping me on the hills on our ride. She is planning to cycle on her own from Perth back to Sydney - good luck! ... read more

I'mmmm dreaming of a whiteeeeeeeeee christmasssssssssssss! Actually no the hell I'm not, I'm dreaming of a damn good christmas at the beach today. Apparently it's been none stop snow back home, or so everyones goddamn facebook statuses keep repeatedly saying! However I'm not jealous in the slightest because I'mmmmm innnnnnn Australia at christmasssssss! WAHEY, however not so wahey when I wake up to discover it's the worst bastard weather EVER. I might as well be at home it's that cloudy. How dare Manchester have better weather than us for Christmas! It's just my luck that on the one day we needed sunshine it decides to go and take a stinking great shit on me. However it didn't put too much of a downer on us as we were set ready to go to Bondi. Had my ... read more

From Ayres Rock we flew to Cairns, to experience one of the natural wonders of the world - the Great Barrier Reef. Upon arriving in Cairns, we were surprised by how Floridian it was, with lots of beautiful wooden beach houses, wide open roads, fish restaurants, bars and parades of shops. Surprisingly, Cairns doesn't have a beach, and the Great Barrier Reef is quite a long boat ride from the shore. However, they've made the most of their coastal area, with a huge free swimming pool on the coast, manicured gardens and parks, picnic and BBQ areas. There's also long boardwalk along the coast to a huge marina. Everyone seems to enjoy being outside, and the climate is tropical. On our first full day we hired a car and headed north to Port Douglas (a pretty ... read more

Hello, After the night bus debacle I finally rolled into Sydney mid-afternoon feeling exhausted after having had insufficient sleep on the coach. So despite being in Sydney at last, a place I had regarded as the 'Holy Grail' of the East Coast, after checking in to my hostel near to Bondi Beach, I just popped over to have a quick look at nearby Tamarama and Bronte Beaches whilst waiting for the laundry to finish then over to the string of restaurants overlooking Bondi Beach for food followed by an early bed time. The next morning I really didn't want to get up, despite having had a good ten hours in bed. Even that wasn't enough to recover from the sleep debt built up the previous day. Nevertheless, with only one full day to explore Australia's largest ... read more

Ok here we go... Normally I spend ages before writing this blog to try to think of something witty or poignant to say before launching into a barrage of nonsense so that is my excuse for not writing more often. Well that and being lazy and finding a wifi hotspot lasts long enough before timing out (yes you starbucks and Mc Donalds!) I remember what seems like months ago now writing the last entry in a swish hotel in Singapore and wondering what the Philippines would be like as it was really the only place I am visiting that I had no preconceptions of. The flight was one of the shortest I have had so far at a little over 3 hours and seemed to take much less than that. The usual land sea land view ... read more
