25Aug07 - Liscomb - Let me start by stating that I'm alright and I was not injured at all despite what you might think by looking at the pictures. Today I started out from Sydney where I stayed the extra night to avoid a large rain storm. I'm on my way to Wade's place (a friend of Lisa's) in Dartmouth to hangout for a couple of days before traveling to meet up with my sisters in PEI. The first sign of trouble was when the video camera mount broke while I was riding. I managed to catch the camera before it hit the ground and capture the moment on video. The footage is actually pretty funny. I had purchased a waterproof case for the video camera in Boston and was bummed out that I was not ... read more

I am the proud owner of a pair of red armadillo leather cowboy boots! I'm going to post them to Libby on Monday. Hopefully they'll get there. I'm staying at a hostel opposite the train station. There are only two dorm rooms and one private room (that's mine). It has a large open plan living room/kitchen and the internet seats are saddles. Interesting place. I spoke to the owner about my Copper Canyon tour. When I told him it cost me $1500 he nearly died. He said you can do it yourself for $500 staying at nice hotels. But he admitted it makes a difference having it planned for you with transfers, etc. when you're travelling alone and arriving at places at 10pm. ... read more

On my way to the International Peace Garden this morning, I stopped off at Dunseith, ND which is the nearest town to the Garden. Passed by a really big turtle. A really, big turtle. According to the Dakota Day Trips book, the turtle is about 18 feet high and forty feet long. It is made of over 2,000 tire rims. At Christmas time, it dons a Santa hat :) according to the book which would be quite a sight. The artist created the turtle after collecting tire rims for about 20 years. It's apparently the world's largest turtle although Guiness has not made it official. Next to the turtle is a park which also includes a windmill and some historical rocks. Cute side trip.... read more

Next up cam the Spirit of America. That is what is written on the Car licence plates. (Every state has a motto) Staying just north of down town I took a ride in a taxi whose driver had apparently carried Prince Harry a few days ago. His friends said it was him and he was British and he was ginger!!!! Anyway looking round downtown Boston I started walking around the freedom trail. Boston is home to the start of the constitution, American independence, a massacre and a tea party. My personal favourite was the Cheers bar! - Where everybody knows your name! The Hollywood cheers bar is located in Quincy Market. Which is a nice area with food courts, market stalls and shops. In the evening I met with a friend from Australia who lives there. ... read more

Onaxthiel Writes: Our first day of driving took us from home to a few interesting spots in northern and western Wisconsin. Our first stop was made at Rib Mountain, once thought to be the highest point in the state. At 1900 feet above sea level and 1500 above the surrounding country side, one can see why once upon a time folks would make that mistake. It does illustrate how flat Wisconsin is to see that our highest spot doesn’t break 2,000. The view was quite nice anyway, with relatively few clouds, many miles worth of scenery below, and the way Wausau lays out in front of you from the observation tower. From Rib, we had three choices of places to spend the night. Right there at Rib; Chequamegon National Forest an hour to the west; and ... read more

-----.............watch video hey every1, Carrie here, So if you've been to Florida before you know that you really need a holiday when you get back, everything is exhausting.......When we arrived into Orlando it was about 3 o'clock and after getting our packs that seem to be getting bigger by the day we went straight outside for a taxi, 5 mins away from the air-con and we could already feel the sweat running down our faces. We arrived at The Best Western Plaza on International Drive and after checking in arrived at our room, its so great being able to unpack for 2 weeks, our room has 2 hugh double beds, TV, large bathroom and dressing area (we are now used 2 bunk beds and 8-10 other people sharing our room) It really is a luxury not ... read more

Hooray!! we are officially all on Alaska time. We slept until about 7:30 and after muffins at the B&B headed to Bishop’s beach. We walked along the beach at low tide and met a couple from Texas and a woman from Homer that were watching a pair of Sandhill cranes and their 2 young. We watched them until they took off. We saw a bald eagle in the distance on its nest. We continued on up the beach exploring tide pools until Gabbi called us over. She had found a spongy looking thing in the sand. When she touched it, it got smaller and squirted water out at her. After some more investigation and finding some that had completely opened, we determined that they were anemones. After some more exploring, we hiked back along the beach ... read more
