Well I am now in Washington DC. More appropriately, the metro area thereof... Arlington, VA. My last post was in Connecticut! Wow... so much has happened since then. But then, the time has flown by so fast I haven't bothered to post anything. Grandma's house was relaxing, but I wasn't supposed to spend much time there either. I love my Grandma, she's so cute and it's amazing to hear her talk about her life and how much things have changed since she was young. And she's seen so much! From farm life in Massachussetts to being a teacher, taking car/trailer trips all over the US, and then taking world-tour cruises once she retired, she has experienced a lot. She told me she went on a voyage to South America on a freighter! Gotta love those cheap ... read more

With the random wednesday off. I decided to travel my own home town. See some of the sights people travel miles to see. My destination was Great Fall National Park in Virgnia. It is a nice park with many bikeing, walking and horseback riding trails. I also wanted to exhaust my 8 month old puppy Duncan. He did some great climbing over rocks and keeping up. He loved the walk and after 2.5 hours was worn out. The highlight of the park is the three overlooks next to the great falls. From that point you can clearly see how powerful and deadly water can be. ... read more

We left New York and headed south recently on the Broadbent Express. The trip took slightly longer than anticipated. Twenty hours after pulling out of Johnstown, New York we arrived in Blacksburg, Virginia. The delays were the result of a variety of factors. The first being that each gas stop takes a half-hour. And when you’re getting six miles a gallon, they happen often. I offered my dad ten bucks gas money for the ride, but he declined. The second delay was the result of my suggestion to check out a local pub for lunch only to find that navigating a 33-foot RV towing an SUV behind it is not conducive to small country roads. The RV can not go in reverse when towing, so the 1.3 miles I thought would be easy to get to ... read more

Ok, so things didn’t turn out exactly as planned, but I didn’t expect they would. We wanted to close on the house sometime near Aug 12th, but are closing on July 30th in order to “seal the deal”. So with that jobless, homeless, uninsured week-and-a-half what do we do? And what a perfect opportunity that turned into for visiting Leigh’s parents in the Dominican Republic! COOL!... read more

We went by the house for the last time making sure we had taken care of everything and the house was empty. We took the camera and snapped some pictures. It was sad to say goodbye to the ole' house and to close a chapter of our lives. ... read more

A short drive out of Baltimore and we were in Charlottesville NC. This club has a regular goth night on Saturday so we were hoping for a good turnout. Shortly after beginning our set up someone gave me my package from Jennifer. It was a card, some clean shirts and snacky things for the road. It was really nice getting something from home. The time away from her is starting to wear on me. I read through the card and looked up and saw Jake, Turtle, and Cindy. I hadn't had time to contact them before arriving at the club to give them specifics on the show. We played a little catch up until sound check. By door time Jake, Turtle, Cindy, Brandon, and Rhiannon and a couple of their friends were waiting to go ... read more

by Mrs Plod Got the rest of our stuff packed up, had breakfast, showered and played with Conor a bit. Soon it was time to leave on our last flight of the trip! Tim took us back to Dulles airport, where we got through security with no fuss. Grabbed a quick lunch to take on the plane, and left on time. The pilot was pretty sure that we would arrive in Minneapolis early. We did--at 3:30 for 4:04. We headed over to baggage claim, and waited about 45 minutes for our bags to arrive. Once they finally did, we met up with Doris, our wonderful driver for our final leg. After getting through rush-hour traffic, we were on the way. We stopped in Albert Lea for dinner, and headed homeward once again. We got home just ... read more

We were halfway up Hankey Mountain, and I was gaining on Liz as she mashed up the hill in her granny gear. I, on the other hand, was in walking gear; pushing my singlespeed Gary Fisher Rig up the mountain. As I squeezed my helmet against my head with one hand, and watched the sweat drip out of my helmet pads, I remembered what one singlespeed blogger had posted, “I ride singlespeed because I like walking uphill.” Liz & I had committed to pre-riding as much of the Shenandoah 100 as we could in one weekend. But what with jobs and families, we couldn’t leave until early, early Saturday morning. By 4:30 A.M. we had tw... read more

norfolkChristoph Hall The whole group enjoyed Norfolk VA. Brandon and Rhianon were great hosts and a really cute couple as well. We needed internet so Brandon drove us to Panera bread for coffee and interweb. Brian needed to see if he could find parts to fix the AC but found that it would be just too much work to be doing on the road. Aside from that he would need to take it to a shop to remove the freon so it could be worked on and if he couldn't get it all fixed at this stop we wouldn't be able to get our freon back. The AC holds 7 pounds of freon coming in at around $300. Brian and I stayed at the house while the rest of the group went with Brandon to pick ... read more
