Today was my last day in VA Beach. Seamus and I went golfing for the day. The weather was perfect. Tonight we went out for Mexican food and afterwards we just chilled and watch movies. Red Sox came from behind to win, Yankees lose big! Back to five games. Tomorrow morning I am heading out to Atlanta where I will go to the Braves vs. Giants game. I'll be cheering for Dave Roberts and booing Barry Bonds*!! Here is a link to some pictures from the VA Beach portion of my trip: Virginia Beach and Baltimore Pictures... read more

Today we spent the day on Virginia Beach and had some sushi for dinner tonight. It was my first time having sushi and it was a good experience! We had a drink after dinner. Something I am not used to is smoking allowed in bars and restaurants. It's been a long time since I went into a place and asked if I wanted to sit in a smoking vs. non-smoking section. Tomorrow we are going to golf for the day... the weather has been perfect. Here is a list of things I have seen or done for the first time so far: - Jumbalaya in a 7-11 Cup! - Sushi - Ride a motorized scooter - night out in downtown Norfolk - sat on the beach that is next to the largest bridge/tunnel (Chesapeake) - drank ... read more

So, we just set up our blog. We're ecstatic about our upcoming trip to the South Pacific. Over the past decade or so we've both been in school/residency/postdoc fellowship (and you've been wondering when the heck we'll be done!) and while indeed we've had our share of sh*ts and giggles, for the most part we've been waiting to really celebrate our 'freedom'! You know the 'we should start having kids' has crossed our minds so before we go down THAT road ... we wanted to cut loose first! So here it is. We are going on our dream vacation (for now!) - We've been planning for a while and now we have it set - Tahiti - Moorea - Bora Bora - NEW ZEALAND!!!!! - Australia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL We wanted to start a blog so that we ... read more

We are safely back in Arlington after catching back-to-back red-eye flights (Brisbane to L.A. and L.A. to BWI). We are a little weary, but a much more worldly and we got here with all our luggage. Amazing! I did not have computer access while in Australia (the beaches were too nice anyway), and so I didn't know the Travel Blog site had crashed the day we left Vietnam. Most of my entries were lost, but can be recovered. It will just take some time and I'll attempt to do this over the next couple of days between opening 7 weeks of mail, unpacking, and doing laundry. I will also add new entries on Australia and Thailand (a story you will not want to miss). I will not send e-mail alerts when each blog entry is reposted, ... read more

Well, I am now back home in Chicagoland, LaGrange, specifically... my parents house. It's an odd situation, because all my siblings and I are planning to move out soon, my bro and sis to college and me back out on the road. It's been nice to take care of some administrative issues, making sure my bills are paid, my accounts are in order, and in addition use my brother's toolset to do some preventative maintenance on Gretchen. In Champaign I experienced my first mechanical malfunction, my clutch cable broke and I had to do the "Miss Sunshine" thing all the way to my friend's place in Urbana and then all the way home. I've gotten quite good at it, but I'd rather ride with a clutch. Today I did a whole lot of work on Gretchen ... read more

So I'm here in DC still, it's so hot I can barely stand to be outside during the day, but I've given some motorcycle-tours at night and in the morning. The other day I jetted up to Bob's BMW in Maryland and got myself a new tire. Dave, one of the mechanics kept asking if I wanted these various little rubber plugs or plastic caps put in to replace the pipe cleaners or duct tape I was using to improvise. So I ended up getting some things fixed up and a new tire, and some new handgrips I'll have to install myself once I get the right size hex key... for the low low price of $212. But it was nice to have someone check everything and say "you know there's all kinds of things I ... read more

(Thursday 8/2/07) With goodbyes said we headed off for the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Shenandoah National Park. Even with the haze, a combination of humidity and pollution from the North East we were told, the views are amazing. A ranger told us they only have about 10 clear days during the summer. The Park offers accommodations and excellent, reasonable restaurants. You really need at least a week to do this drive justice. We were surprised at how little traffic there was. We saw more motorcycles than cars. The drive took longer than anticipated so needing to check in at the Bent Mountain Lodge we reluctantly left the parkway and took a faster highway route. We called ahead and they advised us to eat in Roanoke as there was nothing near the lodge. They weren't kidding. ... read more

We arrived in Blacksburg, Virginia early Sunday morning. It was very surreal to see Missy and Griffin in their front yard waving to us as we pulled up. Although our visit was brief, we had a wonderful time. On Sunday Elizabeth went out to Missy’s barn to meet her horse. After that we headed into Blacksburg to eat, visit Missy’s workplace and see some of downtown. On Monday morning we went to Virginia Tech and saw the campus. It is an amazing campus filled with unbelievable architecture. We went to the duck pond and then the flower gardens. After that we headed into downtown Roanoke and had lunch and then came back to relax in the backyard and watch the kids swim. I was a little too relaxed though. I got up at one point to ... read more
