Sylvan - Sylvan Menezes

Sylvan Menezes I live in Beverly ,Massachusetts with my two daughters Maya and Maxanne, and my wife Karen. Karen and I cruised up the coast and across Alaska in the summer of 2008 our daughters Maya and Maxanne joined us for the cruise part of the trip. I love to travel and experience new things. In 2007 Karen and I drove cross country from Beverly Mass. to Corvallis Oregon to see America at ground level. We currently do weekly visits to somewhere we haven't been before. In the fall of 2004 when I was 54 years old they diagnosed me with the affliction ALS . Because of this stupid illness my arms don't work. For the last three years I haven't been able to hold a camera up to my face to take a picture. Because of that all the pictures on this site were taken with a small rangefinder camera mounted on my walking stick.

The Connecticut Lakes, Happy Corner, New Hampshire After spending a good part of my life going over around or along the Connecticut River, New England’s longest river, I always wanted to see the lakes and wilderness above Pittsburg New Hampshire where the river begins. I also want to see and photograph a real live honest to goodness moose in the wild. The river begins in a series of three Connecticut Lakes called 1, 2, and 3. This is in the northern most part of New Hampshire way above the 45 parallel along the uppermost section of Route 3 at the Canadian [View Full Entry]

The Fairbanks Museum, St. Johnsbury, VT Thursday, October 28, 2009 On my list is the Fairbanks Natural History Museum in St. Johnsbury, Vermont located at top of the hill in the Main Street historic district. Founded by industrialist Franklin Fairbanks in 1889 the museum is an impressive Victorian building designed specifically to share his private collection with the public. The museum provides an impressive eclectic collection of a little bit of everything you could ever imagine. The place is a miniature “Night at the Museum” and in some ways is very similar to other small m [View Full Entry]

Cliff's house
Cliff’s house - Littleton New Hampshire Wednesday October 28, 2009 We arrive at Cliff and Nancy’s house in early evening. It’s the first time in many years that we’ve been here. It’s an attractive old farmhouse along a dirt road that’s high on a hill just outside of town. It’s such a great place to get away and relax. There’s a WiFi connection for me, and Karen settles in with jigsaw puzzles on the large coffee table in the living room. The town of Littleton has changed significantly since we were here last. It’s is a small city wi [View Full Entry]

Great meals and pie.
St. Mary, Montana Saturday September 5 Saturday we drive back to the Park Café for a hearty breakfast. It’s now time to leave the park and begin our journey home. We cross the “Road to the Sun” again and head back to Spokane and tomorrows flight home. We drive the eastern shore of Flathead Lake and get some different views of Montana. We’ve really enjoyed our trip to the Pacific North West and have seen a wonderful mix of city, mountains, plains, lakes and National Parks. I’ll really cherish this trip. [View Full Entry]

Waterton National Park, Alberta Canada Friday September 4, 2009 Another full day in a Jammer for Karen and I, riding north to the Peace Park in Alberta. Driver Bill obviously enjoys his job as a Jammer driver. He talks about the Native American traditions and provides an interesting narrative on our ride. Driving over the mountain pass is spectacular. When you view the valley you are overwhelmed by the vast rows of mountains ahead of you. We have a very nice lunch at the lovely Prince of Whales Hotel. Our servers are wearing kilts and are students from a hotel management [View Full Entry]

Many Glacier Inn, Glacier National Park Thursday September 3, 2009 Thursday Karen and I pack up and again head over the “Road to The Sun” to the town of St. Mary on eastern entrance of the park. This side of the park is the Blackfoot Native American Reservation. After a great bowl of beef chili and a slice of pie at the Park Café we head north through to the town of Babb and the eastern and only entrance to the Many Glaciers area of the park. Many Glacier Hotel is another hundred-year old inn that was built for tourist by [View Full Entry]

Lake McDonald Lodge, Glacier National Park Tuesday September 1, 2009 On Tuesday Karen and I moved from the motel in Kalispell to the Lake McDonald Lodge that’s inside Glacier National Park. What an improvement this is over the roadside Econo Lodge. The McDonald Lodge is a small lakeside inn that was privately built here almost a hundred years ago. It’s now owned by the National Park and operated by a private vender. The building has been recently updated and is the nicest Inn we’ve stayed in at a National Park. Our first floor room is large, clean and has a nicely [View Full Entry]
