New York Trip North America » United States » New York By PinkphoenixJuly 17th 2007Basically, the gist of New York (Long Island, Niagra Falls, and the City) was just seeing so many new things, taking 700 pictures, went to a wedding, met LOTS of family I've never seen before, and overall had the best time of my life. My most memorable time overall was shopping down Canal Street. It reminded me so much of the Bahamas, but I was able to bargain down the prices better. The NY Pizza is great and amazing, Italian Ice is yummy, and Statue of Liberty was very green. I do hope the pictures at least show a glimpse of the most fantastic trip of my life!... read more

Sunday and Monday (July 15th-16th) I spent on a day off in NYC, and what's more important - finally met BatSheva (who's in Israel by now for quite some time...). After many e-mail co-ordinations we met outside the bus station in NYC and went to the Jazz Hostel near Central Park to put her backpack there. Then we bought bread and hummus and sat on the lawn in Central Park to eat and catch up. Finally meeting her was very exciting and fun, and we just sat on the grass and chatted for a couple of hours. When we finally decided it's time to get up and travel we started walking around the park, getting from one side to the other. We were there on a sunday, so the park was full of people tanning, running, ... read more

We just finished our first week at Six Berry Lake. We have been having a marvelous time. We started the week by catching up with our good friend Amy and her three children. We had a nice time relaxing by the lake. Her kids had a wonderful time catching frogs, fishing, and swimming. Later in the week, Carey arrived with some friends of Kristen’s and his from their hometown of Oneonta. Cameron and Sue were a lot of fun. Cameron was born in Scotland and lived there for the first 25 years of his life. His stories describing the scenery, cities, and debauchery of soccer games had us quite excited. Although the experience that lies ahead still does not feel real. I’m not sure I’m going to believe it until I’m sitting in Joanna’s house in ... read more

DAY 1/240 - Saturday, July 14, 2007 The morning of our departure produced many frustrating, or looked at another way, bad signs, which didn't really assist my anxiety about flying. Take off got delayed in brisbane by over an hour (sitting on the tarmac) due to a problem with some spilt hydraulic fluid from the mobile conveyor belt thing (the one that puts the bags onto the plane). However, aside from my neck pain, the strange lady beside me, and the fact that my ipod docking station wasn't working, the flight wasn't the death of me. Annoyingly, the delay meant we missed our short turnaround flight from LA to NY. The flight they put us on was with American airlines (instead of QANTAS), who managed to lose Meathead's luggage. Very angry Meathead. Anyway we eventually got ... read more

Well it has been a long time since i last wrote here and i gotta catch up... this post is relevant to 07/07/07 - 14/07/07: On saturday (07/07/07) night we had a live music concert in the lawn behind the 'beit-am' by Dan Nichols - a jewish rock artist. It was a good rock concert, his players are very good, just most of the songs were about (reform) jewish topics (and he's also really nice in person). Anyway, I had fun and really liked it (and it reminded me how much I miss some good live music). The next couple of days were really hot so I spent quite a lot of time in the pool (or at least around the pool) or in my bed sleeping, it was just too hot to do anything else. ... read more

I lost the blog entry for my trip home for Amy and Ben's wedding. I guess it was a little out of place among the stories about Vietnam. I may still write up a whole new entry but I will give a summary for right now. I flew home the 10th of July to be in Amy and Ben's wedding. I would do that horrible 24 hour trip for few people, but Amy and Ben are two of them. It was great seeing everyone (especially Woods) and being a bad bridesmaid with the other lovely bad bridesmaids. We camped out by Lake Erie and the wedding was in Buffalo. After the wedding Woods and I took our time traveling back to JFK, stopping at Houghton to get all nostalgic about the college days and spending the ... read more

So I guess if you were to count leaving the city for more than a two day period, and returning as separate visit, then you could say that I've now been to New York three times. Not a bad effort. Truth is I had little choice but to return as my flight home departs from here. I made my way back on a Saturday morning, for what would be my final 4th and final four hour bus journey. The bus was full, so it was the first time I didn't manage to get two seats to spread out on to myself. But I suppose 3 out of 4 isn't bad stats. I returned to the NYC Hostel as I knew from my emails that there were still a few people there from earlier in the ... read more

Yechoehoehoehoehoe!!! :-((((... read more

Hey All, Am racing against the clock here so apologies if it seems a bit blotchey! Got into New York on Weds at about 1pm - flight was good - got a seat with loads of leg room and despite my worries of the baggage mine was one of the first to go round on the conveyer belt! - *Relief*.. Got a taxi from the airport which took nearly as long as the flight over here as we battled our way through New York traffic - was also a bit unsetlling as the driver was Russian and didnt seem to know where we were going although eventually he got me here in one piece so I was happy! Checked in to my room - had a massive king size bed and big TV and headed to ... read more

Here I am in New York City! Wow is this a change from living at Gema's house. 0-60 in an hour and 20 minute ride on the Metro North commuter train. People in NY (and I suppose this is sort of true of most cities compared to smaller towns...) walk fast, go fast, everything is very quick and a little stressful. I've had to be careful not to be "that wandering gawking idiot tourist that made me walk around them". Constantly. But it's nice for me, because in the past day I've had enough things happen to warrant pages of journal writing, where Gema's house was a lot less interesting (but plenty necessary, I needed a break). To start off, I arrived at 1130ish at Grand Central Terminal, which is probably easy to figure out if ... read more
