We decided to leave tonight and head out to the east end of Long Island. I've been thinking about going out there all summer but just hadn't put any definite plans together. I try to get back to Long Island once a year. I grew up in Quogue, a little town just east of Westhampton Beach. I have family out there and it's important to me that my sons know them. I also get a kick out of showing them the house I grew up in, the schools I went to, where I had my first job, etc. We got a call today that my grandmother is not feeling so well, so tonight's the night. We'll pack a cooler full of food, a couple of suitcases and hit the road. She's in her 90's and I ... read more

We stayed at Danielle's sister Cindy's house in Connecticut for about a week. We spent a lot of time relaxing, taking echo to the dog park, going into new york city for dinner and the bronx botanical garden, visiting sleepy hollow, playing glow in the dark mini golf, going to see a couple of movies, and just plain having fun. Danielle's best friend Jayme even came down from Boston for a day to visit. Cindy only lives about 1 hour outside of New York, so for two days we spent all day long exploring the city. We did a 48-hour hop-on hop-off tour, which actually turned out to be the best thing for us. We didn't have to spend money on the subway because we could take any of the tours around to wherever we ... read more

Today was another late start with a lot to do in only little amount time. We finally got our stuff together, grabbed some brunch and headed to the sight seeing bus (double decker with an open top). Our plan for today was to tour the city on the bus, dropping off at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), Central Park and the Frick Collection, finishing up the day with a Night Tour of New York on the sight seeing bus. The sight seeing bus is an excellent way to check out the city. The only issues are the long line ups (about 45mins) and the fact that only half the bus is open air, the other half - inside - has limited views. We lucked out and got a seat on the lower level. ... read more

Hallo allemaal!!!

New York was hot sticky, hunmid, smelly and very busy! We spent alot of our time shopping - of course and you really can shop till you drop here! Saw lots of sights as well, museums, art galleries, The statue of liberty, Ground Zero and my favourite The Empire state building. New York was our last stop on the big Round the World trip, and its all over now. We are back in London a little sad but trying to adjust to life at home! We both loved our trip of a lifetime. Thanks to all who read the blogs and adding interesting messages during our travels, hope you enjoyed travelling with us! See you all soon El and Dave xx ... read more

Niagra Falls North America » United States » New York By PinkphoenixJuly 21st 2007 Niagra Falls is where I ended my New York trip. Fortuneately, I was able to go with some friends at sunset, and then we saw fireworks over the Falls.. gorgeous and breathtaking! I wish I had the gift of writing so I could put into words just how spectacular it was for me to go there. Overall.. incredible! Alot of my pictures turned out fuzzy because of the mist in the air, but it's still gorgeous! Anyhow, after the falls, I was able to be the maid of honor in my "aunts" wedding. The "aunt" babysay me as a young child, and throughout my growing up years has been able to be a second ... read more

As we wrap up our time at Lake Six Berry I’m filled with mixed emotions. Once again The Lake has provided me an opportunity to get into a relaxed state of mind that I’m not able to find many other places. There aren’t many other locations that I find the time to read three books and the entire New York Times on numerous days in two short weeks. (Bousselot: Check out A Thousand Splendid Suns and Atonement) But we are eager to move on to the next adventure, no not Scotland, but Fish Creek Pond in the Adirondack State Park. The motto there is everyone needs a quiet place. While beautiful, not exactly a quiet place. The fun will be had spending another day with mom, dad, my sister Jackie, my brother Chris, his wife Heather, ... read more

Today was a HUGE day. We were both VERY tired from the day before, and all the drama of gettting to NY. To make things worse, the clock in our room was over 2 hours ahead...we didn't notice as we were so zonked...so we set the alarm, and woke up thinking it was 9:45am. It wasn't until an hour later, that I realised our mistake...it wasn't even 7:00 yet! WHOOPS! We tried our best to get a few more zzzz's, but it wasn't very successful. At 10:45 the lobby rang to inform us that our Apple Greeter had arrived. This is a great idea if you're coming to New York, and it's only available to visitors. You can book your own personal tour guide of the city (someone who lives in NY) to show you ... read more

Just a quick note to let everyone know that we made it to New York after a HUGE day! We got up yesterday morning after sleeping through the alarm and then panicking. Had to rush down to reception in all of 20 minutes and get on the next shuttle - lucky we had packed. The shuttle arrived...and we made it to the airport, but our plane was delayed by 2 hours. JFK had bad weather so we had to sit in the departure lounge and wait for a window. We were supposed to leave at 11:26am but didn't get away until 1:30p! It's a 5 hour haul from Vegas to New York, so we made the most of a crap flight, and got in to the Big Apple around 9:15pm. It was then onto another shuttle...which ... read more

In an upward turn of events, I have made an important discovery. Yesterday I met a few more amazing people, totally randomly, and while I was extremely unsure of the purpose of my travels. Watching the news, one mostly hears about tragedies and upset. Yesterday I went to Trader Joes to buy some Pita Chips, the cinnamon kind, to share with the couchsurfing community who gather at Revival in the East Village on Thursday nights. While in line I met Tedevan, a healer carrying a huge sign advertising what he does. I felt like I needed to talk to him, so we agreed that for the price of his groceries, (a bag of organic oranges and a protein bar) he would heal me. The healing part I felt was a little contrived, but perhaps (likely) I'm ... read more
