It is currently 6:30 pm EST on Thursday July 12th, and 1:30 am on July 13th in Egypt. We are about to embark on an 11-hour plane flight across the Atlantic putting us in Cairo from JFK airport. First though, I just spent 36 hours traveling and touring in New York City. It all began at about 7 am on Wednesday morning where after spending the night with Lizzie, Mom and I took off and picked up her friend Terri and headed to Columbus airport where we flew out to NYC and arrived in the afternoon at JFK airport. The first day in NYC, we jumped on the subway and headed straight to Battery Park to get a view of the Statue of Liberty - it was Mom's first time on a subway and in New ... read more

Hey All, Just thought I'd let you know that I'm still alive. We've been soooo busy since leaving Mexico. We had 2 full on days at Disneyland, where we spent from 8am until around 1am one day, then 9am to 8pm the next, doing all four parks! Then we fly up to New York and the time has just flown. We fly out to Canada tomorrow and I will hopefully have time to get the last week or so's blogs done. K... read more

I do enjoy writing this blog - it serves two important functions. Firstly, it makes me feel like I’m doing something productive - unadulterated leisure makes me restless. Secondly, it allows me to escape the company of five smelly blokes and feel a little bit in contact with the rest of the world. Tonight I am in Ithica, the nicest hotel so far with a sauna, indoor and outdoor pool, fitness room and most importantly, Street Fighter 2 machines for a quarter a time, all of which I have made use of. The coffee with creamer (definitely not a white coffee, this error was kindly corrected by the barman) that I am drinking cost me 75p. Today has been a day of mild disappointments, although on the whole it has been enjoyable, but more of that ... read more

Today was a bad day for the cyclers to begin, the heavens opened and it pissed it down for hours from about 11am. The boys left at 7am so they got a few hours in before it began but after that it was even hard driving. At times the beast sent up enough spray from puddles to obscure the entire windscreen for several seconds Breakfast hadn’t begun when they set off so they began on an empty stomach whilst Rob and I returned after some photos for my first proper American breakfast of pancakes, butter, syrup, bacon, scrambled egg, French toast (I think - it was eggy bread) and sausages. They even had fruit - hurray - so I stocked up on vitamins and pocketed some for later. Of course this was all accompanied by several ... read more

Hello my friends all around the world! How are you? And what's new with you? I am all right... maybe more than that, because my traveling has already started.... For the friends from Europe: I have to say that unfortunately I am not there for this summer any more. But for the people over the Atlantic ocean: I have been to New York!!!!!! And everything is going very well. But how it started... Well, before I left prague, I had to do all the common things with... pack my luggage, say hi to my family and clean my room... but than I finally went to the airport. I went by public transportation and by the way I met with my friend Hanka who just arrived from the US. We had some food in Mc Donald's:) ... read more

Day 48, Wednesday 11 July 2007 - New York Today we headed to the Empire State Buiilding to make the trip to the top. Unfortunately it was a pretty hazy day, so we didn't get to see much. Still, I was glad to have gone up it. The view was still good and its always been a place I've wanted to go up. After that, what were we to do, but do a bit of shopping, considering Macy's was just down the road! We wandered quite quickly through all 11 floors of this amazing building, then managed to exit on the side that was right across the road from Sephora, Skechers and Old Navy. Now is that a sign, or what?!?!?! After visiting them all and buying a pair of skechers for me, 2 for ... read more

Four days in the heat and excitement of New York left me exhausted but happy. After Kysa's wedding shower, we went into the city and Jane, Dwyer, Brad & I had a great Italian meal in the upper east side (Uva's, on 2nd and & 84th street, they had a lovely garden in the back for some al fresco dining, I totally recommend it). Jane & Dwyer & I spent most of Sunday relaxing at Jane's place & then we went for a little pampering before I headed off to meet Ann for drinks & dinner downtown. The lower east side where she lives is great, really cute shops and little restaurants everywhere. Still so hot though! Monday was a bit of shopping, and then I went to the Museum of Modern Art for the Richard ... read more

As a local, it may seem silly for me to write about "travelling" to a town only about 45 minutes from my hometown, but my goal here is not to write for myself but for others, and especially to write about the great places only locals know about. Syracuse is not much of a tourist attraction, but there are many great places to go downtown, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. Hanover Square is a great place to start, located on Water St., between S. Warren St. and S. Salina St. Featuring live music in at least one establishment any given Friday night, there's always something going on here. In the summer there are often concerts in the square itself. This past Friday night I saw a great classic rock cover band, and audience members ... read more

I’m in a New York State of Mind! So far New York has not disappointed. We arrived in Buffalo July 3rd. For months I’ve waited to enjoy the fourth of July with my family and sticking with tradition we awoke to pouring rain. This meant no fireworks or large smoking fires on the beach. Imagine if you can, 20-25 people, 4 dogs, and 30 years of knick-knacks in a small cottage. Needless to say, I was allotted about five square feet of area to enjoy the holiday. I became somewhat of a Forest Gump around 1:00 in the afternoon. Although I haven’t run in years, I strapped on my sneakers and ran through the pouring rain until I could run no more. Upon returning to the camp the weather had improved to a light rain allowing ... read more

Hi everyone! Here’s another travel entry (or 12) about our recent trip through the USA, provided that I can remember what we did & when, since I didn’t write any of it down! Overall the trip was really amazing, & both Vaughan & I still find it very difficult to pin down any one aspect of the trip that was the ‘highlight’, as everything went really well & we saw & learned so much. Of course, catching up with my friends Kelly (& family), & Jeremy was great for me, & I can’t wait to return (maybe next year). For now, I am back in Nelson spending some time with my parents, & Vaughan has gone back to London, so make sure you keep in touch with him as it can be a lonely place sometimes. ... read more
