Thought it was about time I did a bit of an update on life in England... I've been here about 7 weeks now, I think and so far I have cut my hair, got a job, gone on an overnight work trip to Coventry (who knew my first trip would be to Coventry?!), explored the local area a bit, had a couple of trips into London, visited a local zoo and celebrated a birthday. For those of you who don't know, I started work at Coty a few weeks back, working as a project assistant. The work is fairly simple and not all that challenging, but for the short term, that suits. Check out their website if you're interested - www.coty.com It does involve some great cheap and free cosmetics and perfumes, so I'm not complaining ... read more

Folkestone life Folkestone is the town where Jen and John have their marvellous house. and I do mean MARVELLOUS. My room is at the top of the house, with a nice view, including the sea in the distance. Ah, the smell of the sea - lovely! Plus the beach is only about 50 metres away from the house, if that! Plus my room has a gorgeous slanted ceiling. Its just too adorable for words! The rest of the house is equally gorgeous, except for the stairs that go with it, but i'm hoping the stairs will result in my butt and legs looking fabulous (hey, a girl can dream and live in hope!). You first walk in to the parlour and lounge room. A set of stairs directly in front takes you up to the bathroom. ... read more

London Baby!!!!! OK, so I arrived on Saturday morning, around 6.30am. Breezed through customs and immigration. Didn't even get asked why I was visiting or how long I was planning on staying. I guess having one of those ancestry visa thingys negates the need for all those pesky questions! Thanks again Grandmum!!! xx Collected my luggage and caught the first of the three trains I needed to catch to get to Jean's place. Firstly, the Heathrow Express. Then off at Paddington and then the tube to Kings Cross St Pancreas, then one stop (I think, from memory) and I was at Angel. A bit earlier than planned (I blame immigration for being so quick!), but luckily Jean came and collected me no worries at all. Thankfully she lives just around the corner from the station. Not ... read more

Today we ventured out to explore Old Montreal and the port area. This was a few blocks walk from our hotel, but it was a nice day, not too hot or cold. This area of town is pretty, however I have to admit, not nearly as pretty as Quebec. But maybe I should try not to compare! The area is full of pretty old buildings and the port area is a mixture of new and old. The streets are pretty quiet as well, which makes wandering around a breeze. The one really stellar part of Montreal, from the small part of it we saw, is the Notre Dame Basilica. A little bit of history below: The Notre-Dame parish's history dates back tothe origins of Montreal, which was founded in 1642. Until 1659 the chapel was ... read more

Day 53, Monday 16 July 2007 - Quebec Today we ventured into 'Old Quebec', which is an absolutely gorgeous little part of this city. New Quebec apparently isn't much newer than old Quebec, but this part is just so pretty and quaint, plus really clean, its great to wander about. We first booked a 2.5 hour walking tour of the area, as well as a 1.5 hour cruise up the St Laurence River. We had time for breakfast before the walking tour, so went to this pretty little cafe across from a pretty little park and ordered the most divine crepes with fresh fruit, cream anglaise and chantilly cream. Yum! Next was our walking tour, which was with a really knowledgable local guide, who took us around the whole area of Old Quebec and gave ... read more

Day 50, Friday 13 July 2007 - Travel to Toronto, Canada from NY Bit of a nothing day today. Luckly nothing went wrong, even though it was Friday the 13th! We were up early for our t'fer to JFK airport and arrived in Toronto around 2pm. Our hotels in Canada are a bit of a step up from the past few ones we've had, so its nice to have a week or so of relatively luxury. Then we went for a quick walk around downtown Toronto and pretty much crashed early. Tomorrow is the day trip to Niagara. Day 51, Saturday 14 July 2007 - Niagara Falls We arrived at Niagara Falls around 11.30 and our first glimpse was pretty good. The falls aren't quite as tall as I was thinking, but they are pretty ... read more

Hey All, Just thought I'd let you know that I'm still alive. We've been soooo busy since leaving Mexico. We had 2 full on days at Disneyland, where we spent from 8am until around 1am one day, then 9am to 8pm the next, doing all four parks! Then we fly up to New York and the time has just flown. We fly out to Canada tomorrow and I will hopefully have time to get the last week or so's blogs done. K... read more

Day 48, Wednesday 11 July 2007 - New York Today we headed to the Empire State Buiilding to make the trip to the top. Unfortunately it was a pretty hazy day, so we didn't get to see much. Still, I was glad to have gone up it. The view was still good and its always been a place I've wanted to go up. After that, what were we to do, but do a bit of shopping, considering Macy's was just down the road! We wandered quite quickly through all 11 floors of this amazing building, then managed to exit on the side that was right across the road from Sephora, Skechers and Old Navy. Now is that a sign, or what?!?!?! After visiting them all and buying a pair of skechers for me, 2 for ... read more

Day 46 and 47, Monday and Tuesday, 9 and 10 July 2007 Monday 9 July 2007, Day 46 - Travel to Washington and city tour. We had an early train today from Penn Station to Washinton, which was so easy to catch and pretty much on time as well, which is always a good start. Directly from Union Station in Washinton, we left for our 4 hour tour of the city. Union Station is a pretty nice station, I have to say and the city itself, impressive. We drove through what I assume is the main part of the city, where all the embassies, consulates and government buildings are, on to the White House. A short piccy stop and we were on our way to Arlington Cemetery to see the JFK and Jacqui Kennedy grave ... read more

Well, Toni and I managed to pack a fair amount into our first couple of days here. We even went so far as to change our travel plans so that we only had one night in Washington and had an extra night and day here in NY, we loved it so much and new we'd want as much time as possible! So here goes for the first couple of days, before we headed to Washington for a nights break in the middle: First thing this morning we booked tickets to see 'Wicked', the musical based on the lead up to when Dorothy dropped in. We got pretty good tickets, about 10 rows back. We'd already booked our tickets to see 'A Chorus Line' the night before, so all was set for our broadway experience! Next ... read more
