I hate to say it but it looks like I might be. That is if I can get you all to help me out a little bit. So heres the deal. I have decided that I want to run the ING New York City Marathon this year after somehow getting hooked on this running stuff. You know I always used to laugh at those dudes running in there skimpy shorts with the weird hats on and its sad to say that I am now one of those dudes. Anyways. This is a goal I set awhile back after running my first half Marathon in Rochester, MN. I did halfway decent on it with little training so I though what the hell might as well go to the big show. So here I am about a ... read more

I guess it had to happen sooner or later...we have been blessed with such beautiful weather on this trip, that on our last morning in NY, we woke up to miserable conditions. It was cold, wet and grey outside - Top of the Rock - I think NOT! What a shame...Iz and I were both really looking forward to farewelling NY from the Rock - a much better place to see the city I'm told (not only is it cheaper than the Empire State Building, you get views of the Empire State to boot). We made the best of our morning, by staying in bed till after 9am, then getting ready for our flight to London. This involved packing all our gear, and checking out of the hotel at 12. We wanted to stay in the ... read more

I started my ride earlier than normal to avoid the forecasted afternoon thundershower. At Keeseville I came across the StoneLedge Sculpture Garden which was so cool I had to stop and check it out before catching the ferry across Lake Champlain. After lunch at the Provence (awesome restaurant) in Brandon, I decided to stay the night under darkening clouds. Dinner was at the Waters Edge (?) Tavern with a spectacular waterfall view, where I met Todd a fellow Ducati owner. My hotel is a the historic Brandon Inn rebuilt after a fire in the 1900. The innkeeper had to operate the manual elevator up to my room on the 3rd floor. The hotel is huge with over 60 rooms and is a bit creepy when there's only seven guests for the night. It reminded me of ... read more

Moose in Ithaca My first goal (because I am a very goal-oriented person) was to visit the Finger Lakes, specifically Cayuga Lake since it had a scenic drive. This meant I had to drive towards Ithaca, the foot of the lake. An hour before getting to Ithaca, though, a storm came in, and it started to spit, then drizzle, then rain, then really come down. I stopped in Ithaca and thought that I could wait it out a bit with some dinner (real food, not the cheese sandwiches I'd been downing as of late, plus my bread was getting low, and I wanted to have a sandwich for lunch). After consulting a directional sign identifying the businesses along the downtown area, one restaurant's name caught my eye: Moosewood. Could it be? Could I be in the ... read more

Once again The Lake has provided me an opportunity to get into a relaxed state of mind that I’m not able to find many other places. There aren’t many other locations that I find the time to read three books and the entire New York Times on numerous days in two short weeks. (Bousselot: Check out A Thousand Splendid Suns and Atonement) But we are eager to move on to the next adventure, no not Scotland, but Fish Creek Pond in the Adirondack State Park. The motto there is everyone needs a quiet place. While beautiful, not exactly a quiet place. The fun will be had... read more

July 23, 2007 Fish Creek Pond 234 out of 305 We arrived at Fish Creek Pond to site number 234. Fish Creek Pond is located slightly south of Saranac Lake. The loop around the pond is five miles long and contains 305 campsites. On the small pond you will find numerous jet skis, motorboats, pontoon boats, and speedboats. Most camps contain an RV, tow-behind camper, or pop-ups all running their generators to power their TV’s microwaves, and coffee makers. Fish Creek Pond’s motto, “Everyone Needs a Quiet Place.” We came into camp around noon and had a wonderful time with my family. We spent the day playing Kan-Jam, drinking North Country micro-brew, and listening to the 305 dogs bark. The weather was splendid allowing Camille to catch a swim with Grandma and Aunt Jackie. As night ... read more

Today is a great day to ride the Adirondacks. I head north from Utica along Hwy8, 28, 30 then 3 to Lake Placid. When I arrived in town it struck me why I couldn't book a hotel room for the weekend. The USA Ironman was taking place in Lake Placid! The road was partially closed which allowed me th watch the bikes as I rode through town. The look on this one rider's face as he was climbing the hill back into town said it all: He and his saddle looked irreconcilable. Also watch another rider walk off the course. I can't imagine how much she was hurting to quit. ... read more
