My trip the day before to Manitoba was very long (638 miles), so I hoped for a shorter one (in miles, not always time). I had to make a decision to either go northwest towards Saskatoon and onward to Edmonton and Jasper, or due west towards Regina, then Calgary and a long northward drive to Jasper, so I chose the former. Good choice. However, I must say that the towns are not much to write home about, literally. They have a marker just before the town indicating the services offered, and an indicator of when the service road begins. Kind of disappointing, really. These stops usually included an A&W, a gas station, and maybe a convenience store. And, they were not 24-hour operations, either, like in the USA. Plus, the larger towns ended up looking like
