DAY 13/240 - Thursday, July 26, 2007 Today, I am ashamed to say, we did absolutely nothing. I woke up around 1:30pm to find out the others had spent the whole morning drinking coffee in the coffee house adjoining our hotel (Rosies - they conveniently used me as an excuse for not doing anything). They had only just recently retired to the rooms for lunch, where we all decided to stay for the duration of the afternoon. I wend down to Rosies around 3 for a beer and a steak sandwich, and then went back to my room to find the others hadn't moved. In their defence the long days makes it appear to be much earlier than it actually is. I know i fell into the trap of thinking i could postpone activity and sit ... read more

DAY 11\240 - Tuesday, July 24, 2007 Today we got up bright and early (5:30) and joined the 'Rocky Mountaineer', a train that would take us over the rocky mountains, from Calgary to Vancouver in two days. This was an amazing trip, that took us past some breathtaking scenary, that no photo i took could do justice. For hours, for as far as the eye could see in all directions, the landscape was awe inspiring. I cannot even begin to describe it, you will all just have to do the trip yourselves. Furthermore the food that we received today was the best i've ever received in transit. The only down side was the consecutive length of time that we were sitting on the train - I could have nearly flown back to Australia in the ... read more

Well today was the morning after, and there were a lot of sore heads and red eyes as a large number of the wedding party assembled for brunch, in the hotel bar\restaurant. I missed breakfast, but that turned out to be a fantastic investment when I saw what was on offer for brunch. I would have almost advised those too sick to eat anything, not to have drunk so much, so they wouldn't have to forgoe such a feast. After brunch my brawn was enlisted to carry decorations from the reception hall, to cars going back to Tilsonburg. You can imagine how much help I was as the fouth member of a team of Australia Army guys. The bride's parents were hosting a 'post wedding bbq\party' a their house in Tilsonburg, so that's where everyone headed, ... read more

DAY 8/240 - Saturday, July 21, 2007 The wedding day was finally upon us - and what a great day it was. For as long as i have known Chris (my cousin), he succeeds with flying colours at everything he does. The wedding was no exception, and i'm sure that the marriage will be the same. They are both fantastic people, a very good couple and they are very lucky to have found each other. We woke up at 10, just in time for the 10:30 close of breakfast (or actually dad woke us up). It was great to finally get to sleep in a little. After breakfast i spent an hour or so deciding what i was going to wear. Well actually saying that is deskirting my behaviour considerably, as i already knew what pants, ... read more

DAY 7/240 - Friday, July 20, 2007 Today we left the tour group we were with, a day early and went from washington to Woodstock for the wedding tomorrow. However we got up much much earlier than we needed to and ended up having to wait 3 hours for the flight (in fairness to whoever decided the time to leave, we didn't really know how long it was going to take to get to the airport). So i think that the fact that we had to wait for so long made us all a little frustrated, but i spent the wait working on a spreadsheet that would be used to judge the winner of the Frodo Photo competition. Took me those 3 hours, the one hour plane flight, the 90 min hire car ride (with michelle ... read more

DAY 6/240 - Thursday, July 19, 2007 Today we went on a tour of Washington D.C. Again for the city tour we got a different guide (obviously as she had more knowledge of the area). She was a little easier to understand than the new york tour guide as she had more of an american accent. Washington is like Canberra on steroids - it's whats known as an artificial city, created only to be the capital. As a result its all pretty nice, and well planned etc. However apparently Washington is one of the most dangerous cities in the USA - the lady was saying its more dangerous than new york. So we visited the arlington cemetary (burial place of JFK and family), then lincoln memorial, jefferson memorial, the whitehouse and Capitol building. The formal ... read more

DAY 5/240 - Wednesday, July 18, 2007 Today we travelled from corning to Washington D.C via Gettysburg, a town in Pennsylvania, the scene of a major battle in the American civil war. I've got to admit, whilst i respect and appreciate the sacrifice our soldiers made, wars depress me, so i don't like to delve too much into the intricacies of it all - especially American civil wars. However i can definately see why poeple who were more into this sort of thing would find Gettysburg very interesting. We went the museum which was very well done. There was heaps of artifacts like weapons and bags and furniture with bullet holes in it, which was all found in the surrounding area. Apparently the battle of Gettysburg, despite only lasting 3 days had the most number of ... read more

DAY 4/240 - Tuesday, July 17, 2007 We spent the day today at Niagara Falls (Canada side). In the morning, the tour we have been on continued with a trip around Niagara (i think). However the family decided to skip this part and have a sleep in, and the rest of the morning to ourselves. For some reason though, i still woke up at around 7, and put my bags on the bus with the rest of the group, so i wouldn't have to drag them round (like Chris and Michelle) later on. Spent the morning chilling in starbucks on the internet with an orange juice, before me dad and Meathead went to a factory outlet mall. Funny story: when we were at Macy's in new york, the check out chick didn't take off the security ... read more

DAY 1/240 - Saturday, July 14, 2007 The morning of our departure produced many frustrating, or looked at another way, bad signs, which didn't really assist my anxiety about flying. Take off got delayed in brisbane by over an hour (sitting on the tarmac) due to a problem with some spilt hydraulic fluid from the mobile conveyor belt thing (the one that puts the bags onto the plane). However, aside from my neck pain, the strange lady beside me, and the fact that my ipod docking station wasn't working, the flight wasn't the death of me. Annoyingly, the delay meant we missed our short turnaround flight from LA to NY. The flight they put us on was with American airlines (instead of QANTAS), who managed to lose Meathead's luggage. Very angry Meathead. Anyway we eventually got ... read more
