I apologize for the delay in my writing. After the loss of my camera and bike in September I was momentarily plunged into the shadow of a defeated mentality, and lost inspiration to write. I had lost the ability to share pictures with my words and thought that my words alone were probably not enough to keep your attention. This lull in my mood did not beat me, but by the time I had regained my inspiration I was out of the habit of writing and long since caught up in yet another whirlwind of adventure which I could not pull myself away from for long enough to reflect upon from the outside. But for what it's worth I would like to think back and fill in some of the larger holes I left behind so ... read more

No school here. You'd think after a week off for fall break these kids would be back, NO, teacher planning day. We were leaving this morning, when lil Pete said he had taken day of work. And we had to stay. So here we are, deiced to take kids somewhere...this is what we did. There is a soft drink only known in KY. Ale81. So Pete called the company, asked if we could have a tour, and so we went. See this website: http://www.ale-8-one.com/index.html?CFID=392977&CFTOKEN=46582410 It is a delicious drink, made out of ginger. Small company, but we were impressed by the new equipment. It has been around since 1902. Lil Pete always hungry, we went back out so Maribel could make Pico de Gallo (fresh salsa). She is also cooking a venison roast for dinner. Thank ... read more

We watched Eli's football game, it is the one with flags. He did very well. Last year he used to stand and watch on the field what other players were doing. This year he actually ran and took several flags. Woohoooo way to go Eli. Next we went back to house, where Kandy joined us, we spent the rest of the morning just talking. Then Maribel was snookered into cooking Picadillo for 14 persons. We went to Jill's to cook and socialize. Maribel started giving lessons to Heather and Kandy, then Maribel handed the knife to Kandy to dice the onions which were very powerful and making people cry 10 feet away. Then Heather joined in the cutting. Then Maribel gave instructions to brown the onions and other ingredients. Then we added the hamburger meat, while ... read more

20th August 2007 We had come to the last part of our planned trips. We were going to the Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky. After rafting in The Ocoee River the previous day we were all tired and just wanted to sleep a bit more The caves did not sound interesting enough to wake us up from bed and drive! But we did just that and did not regret it one bit. It was about a 2 hr drive from Nashville. A piece of advice, there aren't many places to eat in the vicinity and it would be a good idea to either pack some lunch along (especially if you are traveling with people with food restrictions) if you plan to spend the whole day there or arrive after an early brunch to make ... read more

Thank you to my Uncle Herbie for helping get the bike ready. Thank you to Mike at Motor Sports in Blairsville, Ga for some electrical wiring. Goodbye beautiful Blairsville, GA and hello the freedom of the open road. Left GA in the AM. Road fast through the Southern Appalachians. Could have drove some of the roads in my sleep. North GA, Western Carolina, Eastern Tennessee are still some of the best places on the East Coast. Did my usual reading of the pentecostal, snake-handling, church billboards through the bible belt. They get good on the backroads. One day I want to make a picture book of them all. Drove up to Asheville and then to Johnson City. Crossed the Appalachian Trail at Sam's Gap. Then moved on into Eastern Kentucky on US 23. Trying to find ... read more

I guess the travelblog website crashed sometime while I was in new york and some of my entries were lost. I managed to get some of them back but I think at least of them is just gone. So I hope you got to read them before they disappeared..... Also, the pictures that are up are in most recent order going back. We flew back into louisville yesterday and I am fairly glad to be here. There are a lot of things that need to be done at the apartment because everyone has to be out by september 1st but I am trying to take it easy for a couple of days. I haven't even started to unpack or anything... I hate unpacking. Let me try to recap new york city as well as I can. ... read more

I spent two years in this area living in Somerset Kentucky , just off Lake Cumberland . While living there i was taken to these falls in lake Cumberland State park . I had never been to these falls before , inspite of the fact that my father grew up in the hills of this state ,and i spent many a summer as a child and young adult in Kentucky . When we turned onto the long winding road the lead back into the National state Park .... i noticed how ghost town like it looked along the way . Then in what seemed to be with the snap of a finger.... the scenery changed drasticaly ! The land looked richer and trees were bigger, huge matter of fact ! The forrest looked thicker and the ... read more
