The head must bow and the back will have to bend, Wherever the people may go; A few more days and the trouble all will end In the field where sugar-canes may grow; A few more days for to tote the weary load, No matter, 'twill never be light, A few more days till we totter on the road, Then my old Kentucky home, good night! Our last day here in Lexington before we offically become homeless citizens of the states. Amid the endless rush to pack, we broke ourselves away long enough to walk through campus one more time so that I could take pictures of places that I would like to remember. It's peaceful here once all the students are gone--trafiic lets up, no more crowds chattering away on their cell-phones clogging up the ... read more

I left Louisville Thursday, May 3, after much stressing over readiness. Sold my car, moved my (very much reduced) pile of stuff to my parents attic, loaded the car (friend Daniel's- i'm driving it to him in AZ) with bike and gear, and hit the road. sort of. I poked around Louisville for a while, saying much needed good byes and of course dispensing multivitamins (essential!) to friends who are making their own journeys soon. Met best buddies Jessica and Deanna at Expressions of You, a neat lil' coffee shop on Muhammad Ali Blvd downtown. Then borrowed Jessica's computer to get this blog and my new email account set up. And then I was ready to go. mostly. Only six weeks behind schedule. But had I been on time I would never have met my now ... read more

I'm an outdoor man, and I don't do any work unless I want to. -Johnny Weissmuller Hey everybody, Ideally, if you are getting an email saying that I wrote this, I'm awesome. If not, I'm pretty cool but not quite at awesome status. I wanted to give everybody a head's up as far as where I'm going to be and what I'm going to be doing (roughly). On Tuesday, May 8th I'm going to pack up all of my stuff here in Murray and head back to my folks' house in Louisville KY. The following morning, I get to drop Ash off at the airport (she's going to San Fransisco for a sweet job interview) and head down to Versailles KY for a teambuilding contract to make a bit more money before I become a professional ... read more

So this entry really only serves one main purpose. I just added to the subscribe list all of the people that I met during my NOLS IC last summer in Lander, so now all of you can decide whether or not you wanted to stay subcribed or not. Easy to change if we need to. However, for all of you who helped take this non-NOLSie and make him an instructor, way to be! Basically I'm sending out this entry just to make sure that you all hear from me and to check what your plans were for the next few months. So yeah, I hope to see at least some of you this summer, and once again, Happy Trails! -Chris A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though he ... read more

In order to see much one must learn to look away from oneself - every mountain climber needs this hardness. You must climb above yourself - up and beyond - until you have even your stars under you. Yes! To look down upon myself and even upon my stars: that alone would I call my summit, that has remained for me my ultimate summit. Friedrich Neitzsche There are times when I don’t have to be Chris if I don’t want to. Times when I can take on a new persona, a new name. My other name was chosen for me somewhat as a joke several years ago, but for some reason has stuck. I can do anything as this individual; I am not bound by the constraints that often follow Chris around. I am Supe, ... read more

Howdy everybody! Let me explain what's going to be happening on this action packed site. Starting in May, and for the next God knows how long, I will be for the most part incommunicado. My address will be my folk's house (10922 Hobbs Station Rd, Louisville KY, 40223) and they will alert me if something comes that needs my attention. My phone will be my cell phone, although a majority of the time I will not be able to use it. I will be living out of my truck, both for mobility and for frugality. The best two ways to get a hold of me (and it might take a month or more) would probably be email (cmceachron@gmail.com) or responding to posts on this site. So it's not May yet, why am I starting this so ... read more

The Land between the Lakes (LBL) is a National Recreation Area. Their website is: www.lbl.org. The two lakes are Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley and both are manmade. At the south welcome station they have a lot of displays about the area before, during and after the formation of the lakes. We toured The Homeplace which is a working 19th century farm. They have people dressed in period clothing and doing the daily chores and activities that were appropriate for that time and season. During the year they will have special events and festivals to highlight the spirit of this era. The farm consists of 16 original and restored log structures that are from the surrounding area. I didn’t expect to see elk and bison on our trip, but there is an area where they roam. ... read more

Kentucky celebrates April with Red Bud Festivals throughout the state. Drifts of the more purple than red trees in flower color the road sides. They seem to clash with forsythia and contrast with the bright white of the dogwoods. It looks like spring; but it is cold and it snowed on Saturday while we were at opening day at Keenland Race Course. We are staying at Kentucky Horse Park Campground. We have camped here before and really like it. The Horse Park itself is like DollyWood for Equines - every breed imaginable, horse shows, equestrian demonstrations, carriage rides, etc. Keenland is a beautiful track. This was a wonderful family interlude. We got to meet our new great nephew, Aiden, reaquaint with his big sister 2 year old, Madison and tour their parents' (Mike & Natanya's) ... read more

Added 414 miles to our trip...we were passing through West Virginia and entered Kentucky to visit our friends who moved away from Carper's Farm two years ago...the Lytle Family now in Louisville, Kentucky. Hogan was glad to get out and stretch his legs in the huge backyard. Emily and Nora were thrilled to have a "sleep over" with their friends Natalie and Isabel. What a nice stop on the way!! Louisville is beautiful...lots of golf courses!... read more

So I'm almost completely packed. I just have to run a few last minute errands and finish packing, and then I'll be on my way. I leave Louisville around 5:49pm and arrive in Atlanta about an hour later. Atlanta depature is around 8:30, making me arrive in Edinburgh at 9:30am. Weather looks like it will be rainy, but a little bit warmer. The adventure begins...... read more
