So here is our journal, to each his own !!!

When: May 29th-30th 2010 Location: Newport, OR Covered: Oregon Coast Aquarium, Newport Bay, Nye Beach, Yaquina Head Lighthouse What's not to miss: Noodle Cafe Restaurant How did this trip happen? Truth be told, ever since we came back from India in December, we have not been out traveling anywhere. It was a busy 6 months getting settled and used to sucky rain and winter weather here in Oregon Since this was the first long weekend this year that *might* have good weather we decided to check out the Oregon Coast aquarium that a lot of our friends raved about. More than anything we just wanted to unwind and not have to cook/clean or think of work/daycare for a couple of days. So I got the Mr to book us a hotel. We ended up going with ... read more
Date : May 5th -8th 2010 Places covered : Anaheim, Laguna Beach and Artesia in CA When I found out I had to go to a conference for a week, K had no choice but to take off and watch V; unless of course I took him with me to the Soft Error Sessions And my sister and brother in law decided to come spend the weekend with us so the deal was sealed. We did not have too much time to spend and I was at conference sessions all through Wed and Thurs. So the boys did their own thing and went Whale Watching with the Capt. Dave Whale watching safari . V had a blast and saw a lot of dolphins. But he was too drained out and the sea breeze lulled him ... read more
24th February 2010 I am slowly realizing why people love Oregon so much, everything is just 2 hrs away. If I have said this before, sorry but it is true Traveling with a toddler takes a lot of planning, what with meal times and nap times and even a day trip requires a minivan with truck loads of luggage When in bleary February the sun shone like a diamond, we were not going to let the weekend slip away to household chores and laziness. We grabbed our jackets and sweatshirts and headed for snow tubing at Mt. Hood. I have never been a skier and neither has K. You don't expect south Indians to be skiers, you can't do much when you have never had snow now, can you ? And if you know me ... read more
Sept 20th 2009 While being encouraged by V liking travel, we are also trying to embrace the last few weekends where we may be having some sun. Added to that K was not “on-call”. Most importantly our friends from Chicago- Janani & Sudharshan were visiting. So we wanted to show them the glory and beauty of Oregon. Originally we had planned to go to the Silver Falls State Park . We skipped it because KK had taken them on too tough a trial through Mt. Hood the previous day. Added to that, our whole family was down with a runny nose and we did not think we would do justice to the place. This was something that we also thought of visiting during the long weekend but did not because of the bad weather. And we ... read more
Sept 12th -13th 2009 Having a baby changes many things about your lifestyle if you will allow it. And for us it definitely did and we gave priority to our son and watching him grow. The fact that he hated the car seat made travel all the more difficult for us. But like we have found, if you wait and not let the desire die, things will eventually turn around. He is a little over a year old now and as he faces the front in the car slowly beginning to realize it is not such a bad deal after all. We on our hand after having his grandparents help for a little over a year, are slowly settling into a lifestyle and a routine that allows us to enjoy him and also slowly revisit some ... read more
July 4th 2009 I can certainly say we picked the wrong day to visit Cannon Beach. It was the July 4th long weekend, my sister was in town and my parents were leaving in a week and it was 85F in Portland so we thought what the heck and set out. We dressed like one would when you head to the beach on a sunny day. Who the heck knew that Cannon Beach, a mere 1 and a half hours away would have totally different weather conditions and I had to check the wind directions. It was chilly and windy and very very cold So much for V’s tent and Frisbee. We did not do justice to the visit. Next time around, I will check the weather and also plan the visit better so we can ... read more
27th June 2009 This is definitely one spot that is widely advertised as one of the must sees for people in Portland, OR. Multnomah Falls is the second-tallest year-round waterfall in the nation. One of the things I definitely love about living here is you barely have to drive 10 mins and you are surrounded by natural beauty every side. The coast is less than 2 hrs away and the desert is less than 4, I can’t really ask for more. We moved here in Aug 2008 but having a baby put a stop on travel for a while. This trip to the falls was so my parents could see a bit more than the 4 walls of our home. Also exposing V to small trips to see how he and I did The drive ... read more
May 3rd 2009 My last entry to travelblog was in 2007. It is now June 2009, been two years. Well, lots have happened in our lives and travel was not a top priority I first saw the tulip fields in the tamil movie "Anniyan" in the song "Kumari..", it was truly spectacular! However I have since then seen many friends visiting Tulip farms in Seattle. When we moved to Portland and found out that they have Tulip farms, it was one thing we wanted to do. With a 10 month old, we were looking for easy things to include in our travels and this fit right in. After researching a bit, I found the Woodburn tulip farm , less than 40 miles from where we live. Karthik's parents were visiting us to help with little ... read more
20th August 2007 We had come to the last part of our planned trips. We were going to the Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky. After rafting in The Ocoee River the previous day we were all tired and just wanted to sleep a bit more The caves did not sound interesting enough to wake us up from bed and drive! But we did just that and did not regret it one bit. It was about a 2 hr drive from Nashville. A piece of advice, there aren't many places to eat in the vicinity and it would be a good idea to either pack some lunch along (especially if you are traveling with people with food restrictions) if you plan to spend the whole day there or arrive after an early brunch to make ... read more
