I guess the travelblog website crashed sometime while I was in new york and some of my entries were lost. I managed to get some of them back but I think at least of them is just gone. So I hope you got to read them before they disappeared..... Also, the pictures that are up are in most recent order going back.
We flew back into louisville yesterday and I am fairly glad to be here. There are a lot of things that need to be done at the apartment because everyone has to be out by september 1st but I am trying to take it easy for a couple of days. I haven't even started to unpack or anything... I hate unpacking.
Let me try to recap new york city as well as I can.
Thursday night we stayed in a hotel room.... which was not easy to come by. It was near time square so we walked around there and found a noodle place to eat at. I liked being in times square because there were so many people and lights that it woke me up a bit. Mischa hates times square and I've heard others
say they do so I guess it's a place that either you really like or hate.
Friday we went to the Guggenheim because it was donation day and we paid $5 each to get in. It was neat but I guess we were so tired by the time we got there that we didn't see anything that really amazed us. My favorite painting was a Picasso that he had done in his early 20s.... it was completely different from his later style and I liked it quite a lot.
Saturday night we went to coney island and had a blast. The rides were insane and we could only handle 3 of them. We rode the cyclone which is a very famous roller coaster and now we know why. I don't think I've ever screamed so much in my life. Both of us ended up with elbow bruises when the ride was over though.... it was really intense. Afterwards we went to a place called Pommes Frites which only sells fries and about 20 different sauces. Yum....
Sunday we went shopping because mischa's shoes were starting to fall apart but we didn't have much luck. We walked around
union square and down broadway to washington square park. Later we went to the WTC site which was very eerie. We tried to find the staten island ferry which is free and goes past the statue of liberty but we walked a lonnnng time and finally gave up from exhaustion.
The next two days we spent walking around a lot and shopped some more. We went to a really awesome thrift store called Beacon's Closet. I found a few things there. It was across from the Brooklyn Brewery which we really wanted to go to but apparently they are only open for tours and tastings on fridays and saturdays so we missed out on that.
Wednesday we spent three hours trying to get to the bronx zoo because the subways were flooded from the tornado that hit the night before. It was also donation day there and we got in for free but only had an hour to look around which was really disappointing. They have an exhibit called the mouse house which we were really getting into just before we got kicked out.
It doesn't seem like we did a whole lot while we were there
because it took so long to get anywhere so we spent the majority of our time either walking or on the subway or walking to try and find a subway station. We did eat a lot..... I think we spent most of our time trying to get to places that were in our vegetarian guide to new york. Some of them were really out of the way but definitely worth it. The food there was amazing.... we ate at so many different places but all were delicious.
We had:
Afghani food
Ethiopian food (just as good as Queen of Sheba!)
Falafel- this place had a salad bar with all kinds of things to put on your falafel sandwich. The pickled vegetables were outstanding.
Vegan meatball parmesan sandwiches
At a place called Tiny's Giant Sandwich Shop I ate the best veggie burger of my life. It was called the Big Mack Daddy
We ate at Red Bamboo twice because it was so amazing. They have vegetarian chicken, fish etc.... and it is all sooo good.
Vegan milkshakes.
Vegetarian general tso's chicken
the best smoothies in new york
Yeah so I guess we did spend a lot time eating..... if
any of you ever go to new york please ask me where some of these places are because they were all unbelievable.
Finally.... I can put up pictures. Enjoy!
