Rabbit Fricase Puerto Rican style Yesterday, there were 25 rabbits, already skinned, provided by the Finito's family. Finito Sr, and I cut them, washed the pieces in the escamador(an air conditioned room for the purpose of scaling and cutting fish). We cut and peeled 15 lbs of potatoes. 3 lbs of onions in rebanadas (sliced in rounds) 7 garlic heads, which I promptly minced. Then the fun started. Pipo called this morning, asked us out to lunch. He came around 1430 with wife Ana Maria and Granddaughter Nati. Pete drove through town, we know more about the area....We ended up at La Ancla Restaurant. I had my camera, but we had a teenager, who dove in the Bay, and was being washed away. I totally forgot about the camera...Fortunately, the Restaurant crew made phone calls, cops came by car, and a fisherman was going by from Villa Pescarera, and flag down. The avocado is long, like a gourd, but taste same. The granada, Wikipedia calls a sweet grenadilla, tastes a bit like orange and almond. Some of the seed are hard, so you spit those out. Hard to eat. Claimss good for the stomach. [View Full Entry]

Ay Dios mio! Bendito...Virgen...We arrived around 1900 hours. We had a light dinner and quiet on the boat. It was raining, we had another tropical wave come by. Seems like every few days this time of the year, the waves come by. Here they call it "aguada". Winds have been up to 35 knots. Rain comes and goes. Ay Dios Mio, We were asked to attend this Party. Pete even took a nap. At 1900 hours we were on land. Shortly after a "diluvio" ( rain like cats and dogs) took over the whole area. The artisans make necklaces, bracelets out of seeds, and some others make maracas, and guiros and...from gourds. Gourds come in any shape and size you want. Anchor at La Guancha, depth 30 feet. On South Side will be the Yacht Club, now charges $10 a day per person, and if you have mail or packages being delivered here, it is $10 per package. BUT, when you get here, you will see a tower by the boardwalk. Next to it, is the Club the Pescadores de la Guancha. Use their dinghy dock to the left of the boat ramp. There seems to be a school of manatees in the area. One of these, has a special fantasy ( see pics) for a special dinghy. The dinghy belongs to Ariel, Julio and Joy. We hear tell, Julio left in dinghy the other day, to visit another boat, with the manatees following him. We hear tell there is a newborn as well. We did see about 5 manatees around the boats one morning. We have been told there is a new group being started in the area called " Dinghies against lewd and lascivious behavior of manatees". Jan's Birthday, we were asked to go with him on his boat. Ratones is a group of islands, very small, like Rim Tar Bar. The Club members took cooking utensils, a propane stove, and Camacho cooked. Jan provided around 15 lbs of "ovejo" male lamb, freshly killed day before. Camacho made a fricase, Paco and Pete peeled the potatoes and cut up the onions. There was also rice with gandules, which was very yummy, gave me an opportunity to see how it was made. The water was so nice....Nice snorkeling...Very leisured weekend, very en joyful.
