I did a lot of driving today, as usual my GPS took me the long way, yet I still made my destination a day early! I got through South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconnsin, and now in Illinois. it took about 7 hours, again speeding and no traffic till Wisconnsin / Illinois border. I am at a super 8 for the evening then checking into a downtown hotel for 2 nights tomorrow. I am meeting up with a couple clients over the next two days which is good as I can expense it all. all in all, today was very uneventfull, it was dry roads and clear blue skies all the way. It is so cold out, I have never felt this kind of cold anywhere in Canada. Instantly when you step outside whatever isn't covered begins to ... read more

Jagshemash!!! Greetings from the land of the free, home of the brave, blah blah blah. Yes, I'm still alive and kicking. Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Well, we can't say "Christmas" anymore cos it's not politically correct... whatever. I think it's been over a year since I've updated you on my adventures. Or should I say misadventures? To be honest, I didn't really do much in 2007. After getting my ass out of Toronto in February (thank God - I was constantly worried my roommate might violate me while I was asleep), I set about getting my visa to work in the states. A few phone interviews and I score a job as a project manager for Siemens. That's SIEMENS, not...... anyway. Before starting work, I went back to Vancouver to pick up my work ... read more

It has been some months since our last journal entry, but we have been steadfast in our mission to find the best nooks in all of Chicago. There have been some real gems along the way, a few pleasure palaces, and always a bang of a story. As the year wound down, it had been some time since we traveled in style. The Hilton Chicago is a great old dame. As the brochures say, this is a landmark hotel, and it is no small palace boasting 1,544 rooms! The Hilton Chicago was the largest hotel in the world a long time ago and the place is really huge. In fact, when we made our way to the room, she asked if we were in a scene from The Shining. Yes, the Hilton Chicago is old, but ... read more

November, 1974 - Chicago I drove to Chicago to see Burton Cummings & The Guess Who. It was funny because the concert was in an auditorium and somewhat formal. I lit a cigar, and an usher came and made me put it out. I saw The Guess Who 3 times, 1974-75. Their music inspired me to return to school and get my degrees. June, 1966 - Chicago Cousin Larry and I were talking after having watched "The Avengers" on TV. We got the idea of driving to Chicago. We took off in the night. In Chicago, we drove along Lake Shore Drive and saw State Street. We went to an old time burlesque show. We ran out of ideas and headed home. I had read Theodore Dreiser's novel, Sister Carrie, about a girl who went to ... read more

This morning I woke up in a hotel near the Chicago O'Hare Airport. My flight out of Denver yesterday was delayed by about 7 hours and therefore I missed my flight from Chicago to Madrid last night. United Airlines gave me a voucher for a hotel room after I waited in a customer service line in Chicago for almost 2 hours. All of the people in the line were frusterated travelers on the same flight I was on from Denver. I leave for Madrid later today(24 hours later from my original flight) at 4:30pm Central time. Since I am so late I will miss my flight to Equatorial Guinea, which should have left tonight, I will be in Madrid for the weekend. I am not too upset about that. I will just have to eat some ... read more

The last entry was nearly ten days ago. I was sitting in the houseboat, staring at all the Stuff, procrastinating, wondering what I should take, what I could live without... The trip to Kentucky was pretty much uneventful, and the flight to Chicago went well. My guitar was lost, found and returned within 24 hours, none the worse for the wear. So far so good... almost. My laptop, the one I just spent money to give a new keyboard, battery pack & power supply, has decided it will not switch over to battery power, essentially rendering it a small desktop machine. If I can't use it as a laptop, its use to me is greatly diminished while traveling. Less than 7 hours away from the time that I'm to leave for the airport on the trans-Atlantic ... read more

Awake at around 4, because I was so excited. Actually no, I grew out of that when I was about 19. But we were up fairly early and all opened presents around the tree. I asked if we could sit in Chris and Jackie's bed while we opened them as my brother and I would do in my parents' bed as kids, but this was deemed inappropriate. Considering I was a last minute addition, I was pleasantly surprised to see a stocking (well, a tube sock) hanging up for me. Dan and I had decided to anglicise the day as much as possible, so we each had a satsuma and some chocolate, then Dan had got me a cool T shirt, and Chris and Jackie a copy of On the Road - a present originally intended ... read more

In preparation for tomorrow's feast, and because I'm a terrible cook, I made a batch of stuffing today as a trial run. It wasn't too bad, the texture and consistency were OK, but I must have added too much salt, as it made me want to vomit as soon as I put it in my mouth. Good job I did the trial run. Dan didn't have to work, so we spent the morning and afternoon buying last minute bits and wrapping presents, before heading over to Chris' place where we were spending the night. I had my festive Christmas tree shaped hat on, which made me feel happy if no one else, and we set to work preparing some of the food for the next day. At around this point, I got a phone call from ... read more
