Another busy day ! This morning we were taken by our gps lady to US Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox. We parked the car, picked up our tickets for tonights game and then went to the train station. With the help of a very nice station attendant we bought our $2.00 train ticket and took a ride into downtown Chicago. We took the loop train, which was great, it took us right through the streets above the roads..... just like you see on the movies ... we were so impressed, we did the whole loop and came around again ! After getting off, we walked along the Chicago river and down Michigan Ave (The Magnificent Mile). We got in a bit of shopping and then headed down to Lake Shore Drive and walked ... read more

Today we did very well..... we didn't get lost ! The gps lady and Geoff did very well, getting us there, the traffic was fast and scary but.... we did itl ! We drove into downtown Chicago and parked at Navy Pier, a great entertainment and restaurant area on Lake Michigan, we spent time taking in all the views before having lunch on the boardwalk. You can tell it is spring, the birds are nesting and the bulbs are flowering, the trees are in bud. It was a lovely warm spring day, hazzy in the morning and late afternoon.... but the bit in between...... was sunny blue sky's. We took a "hop on hop off' tour on a double decker bus, which took us around the city for about 3 hours. So much to see, ... read more

It has taken us 26hrs travel time and we have arrived here at Hillside, Chicago and our white Chevolet Cobolt is parked in the carpark out front ! We checked in at midnight (3pm Monday your time). We had a delayed flight out of Auckland 2 hours late ,so we were rushed through customs and immigration at LAX to catch our Chicago flight. We just made it after running from one side of the airport through the carpark to the other side with all our 4 suitcases.... it was a good workout after sitting on our bums for so long. Hotel Hillside is very nice we are very comfortable, we went down to the bar for something to eat and the lady serving loves out accent..... she wants us to repeat everything so she can listen ... read more

Arrive at the venue on time. Fix and paint the ground row. Take apart a $400 piece of gear, fix it. Repair an AK47. Replace stage pin connector. Troubleshoot microphones. Notice sit down and breathe are not on that list. Add to that my regular duties: Unload truck and direct traffic. Set up lighting rig and ring out. Focus and trim projector. Hang bounce and header, set ground row, check cyc and scrim. Make sure Kyle is good for sound check. We were spoiled here in Grayslake. Another great TD and crew, very knowledgeable. (Plus I made a TON in my swear box!) Everything was set and ready for our arrival. When the crew was putting the ground row together, a few sections of it fell, torquing a bit, and breaking. We promptly got it screwed ... read more

So, I have to apologize, I forgot to explain the zebra yesterday. In our hotel, there was a Decatur magazine with all the things to eat and places to see, as in lots of hotel room. (Although they don’t usually have Decatur magazines, just this one.) On the cover, it had a big picture of a Zebra! Sarah’s comment was, “Nothing says Decatur like a zebra!” We are in the middle of nowhere, Illinois, after all. At our hotel, there were tons of college-age people all over dressed up. They were there for some Health Occupation competition and last night was the awards ceremony. When they got out, it was about 10:30, and they spent a good few hours in the halls, hooting and hollering and running around and being really loud. Kyle called security twice. ... read more

PS - Australia When we left Australia Kev was hauled off to speak to customs because he had overstayed his visa by two days. A visa lasts for any period of three months in a year - I was alright because I had popped home for Christmas. Kev was informed that he would be allowed to board his plane, but would not be allowed to return to Australia for three years. He is determined to complain - as a tourist he has spent a lot of money in Australia and what difference does two days make/ PPS - Las Vegas I never did get to play on the roulette wheel or play poker or 21's. The sum total of my gambling was $8 and I kep back $5 from my winnings - net loss $3. 15th ... read more

Well hello everyone! Hey this has been an exciting day for me and my masters! Let me tell you the story!! First of all, of course, my masters went for breakfast at Bob Evans - and I got to eat--you guessed it--my lamb and rice! Then we headed out for Rockford, where we planned to stay at the Red Roof there! You will notice how I have to monitor their travels, making sure they are on the right track - ah road I mean! However, half way there the blower fan on the car ceased to blow! Hmm, presents a little wrinkle in the plans for the day - right? After all it is Saturday and getting service like this is not available at Wal*Mart (we checked!) and so my masters thought that they would have ... read more

Okay, first post, and a quick one. But a new blogger. And, as you'll likely know if you're reading this, my friend Janel & I are driving down to Austin to bring my car down in anticipation of my final move (to join my wife) down to Austin. The plan is to leave from Chicago this afternoon and make it to St. Louis tonight. Tomorrow night, we're staying in Memphis. Saturday, we'll be in Dallas. Sunday, we'll arrive in Austin after stops in Dublin, Texas and Waco, Texas. Sights will include (but certainly not limited to) the Anheuser-Busch brewery tour, the St. Louis Arch, Graceland, Sun Studios, Beale Street, the grassy knoll, and the Dr. Pepper museum. We're both bringing cameras and have no fear or shame in using them. I just need to figure out ... read more

Hey all, I have been on my journey for three days...currently I am at home and I am spending the evening in downtown chicago with my girl at her sweet digs. I can't wait till I get back and get a job in chicago and I can have this awsome life as well. What I can't wait for more is the fact that I am leaving in three days for my Euro-trip. It's going to be awsome. I arrive in London on Tuesday 6am and immediately take the eurostar over to Paris where I will spend 4 days in the city of lights. IS that what what they call it? Oh well. Anyway, I need to go party and be social! Talk to you soon. Smooches! :o)... read more
