Dale and I, along with help from Dad put the camper top on the truck. our stuff should be safe and dry. Tomorrow we will go to church and finish packing and then leave Monday morning... I am getting so excited and a little worried about the floods in Texas. Maybe that rain will move over here and help us out we could sure use some rain here. But anyway, I can't wait to be off on this western adventure. ... read more

Buenos tardes amigos! Estoy en Atlanta! I have to say, LARGE AIRPORT! The walk from my flight to my connecting flight to Buenos Aires was 2/3 of a mile! I know, I'm living the rough life...Anywho, one interesting note from the flight here - the guy sitting next to me had the sweetest 80s feathered mullett and I think had been treating himself to a few captain and cokes prior to departure. My suspicions were confirmed when I overheard him on his cell phone (pre takeoff) talking to who I think was his significant other saying, "Don't worry, 2 jack and cokes on this flight, and then 2 on the flight from Atlanta) - I'm sure his lucky lady was relieved to hear that. He then ordered a movie and was shouting and making gestures toward ... read more

June 8, 2007 Our trip down to Georgia was relatively short and easy. We made our way over to Cumming, Georgia (about 35 minutes from Atlanta) to stay with Allison’s sister, Lorraine, and her three year old daughter, Josephine. Josephine was a bit shy at first, but quickly warmed up to us and played some hide-and-seek. As you can see from the pictures Josephine is the cutest kid. She has lots of energy, is always laughing and smiling, and is a joy to play with. During our stay, Josephine thought she had a different Aunt Allison (I guess the different hair color through her off) and claimed me as her own. That night, we got take-out for dinner and chatted with Lorraine for a while. Josephine and I spent time playing, drawing, and coloring pictures. ... read more

We boarded the G train from Nostrand and Bedford, transferred to the A line at Hoyt and rode it one stop to Jay Street. Then we hopped on the F train and stayed on thru Manhattan and then over into Queens. At Roosevelt Avenue, we jumped on the Q33 bus which took us straight into La Guardia airport. It was Sunday, June 3 and we were headed to Atlanta. The barebones AA flight was boring and we slept thru the entire two-hour journey. Aaaaaah. ATL, ATL. We had been there before. Back in 2005. And we loved it then. We landed around 2pm, cleared and waited in the atrium for Shanna's mom, Mama Marcia, and stepdad, Ton (pronounced "Toe"). There were platoons of US Army soldiers in the waiting area. The packed area burst into applause ... read more

My Trip Around the WorldShylie Armon I spent a good part of yesterday evening in the Atlanta Hartsfield airport. Anybody who has known me during past traveling excurions I have taken will know that Atlanta Hartsfield is my least favorite place in the world, and that many, many hours of my life have been sucked down by their endless delay system. So when my flight yesterday was announced on time, you can imagine my surprise. As I predicted, I had to check my luggage in Melbourne, pick it up in Atlanta, and re-check it there. The dark evil unholy lord that runs Hartsfield managed to make it so that the carousel that I picked my luggage up from, and the point at which I had to deposit it were on completely opposite ends of two separate ... read more

Life on the Mini-TourI am starting this blog out of the sheer boredom of life on the mini-tours. G-l-a-m-o-r-o-u-s it is not! Wow, what a mess yesterday was. The driving started in Gainesville, Georgia at 8:30 am and did not end until 11 1/2 hours later in Rogers, Arkansas. My route took me from Gainesville to Chattanooga to Nashville to Memphis to Little Rock to Fayetteville and finally to Rogers. Rogers, Arkansas is in the very northwest corner of the state. I pretty much set out from my parents house in Gainesville, took a left, almost made it to Oklahoma and then took a right. A couple of pretty cool views were seen along the way. In Chattnooga I passed over Lookout Mountain, where they say you can see 8 states. I dont believe it. My ... read more

It's the day before lift off, and Stef and I are both running around at a slightly frenetic pace, checking and double checking our supplies. Short of a few set backs (such as Patty needing the pin pulled out of her leg and Stef ripping one of her contacts practically in half this morning), we should be good to go for our Peruvian adventure! ... read more

Italy Study Abroad Katrina WoodEvery blog must have a beginning, so here is mine. I've had some experience in keeping a blog, whether it be for my own memories and posterity or for an assignment in the MAPW program. With this special 'travel blog' or log, I hope to prove that it will be special. Special to my trip, and in line with a new way to bring the stories from my time in Italy this summer to you all (and let's be honest, future employers and the like!). My audience for this will range from the very familiar individual to the random passerby, yet I hope that each entry will captivate you in some small (or large!) way. I am to head out to Italy in less than a month, so for now, you'll probably ... read more

Of course, I must visit all 50 states, including those that require a plane, boat, or sled dog team to reach. I think many people wish to do this, and they all don't have to aspire to be travel writers! I have made some progress with this map, but as with the rest of the world, many adventures in my own country await! I figured I'd just set some of these maps up for interest purposes as I got ready to pay homage to Europe again (I leave in about 6 days, even though Travelblog posts this entry as having been written May 28th. I started it then, but published it June 19th. There will be various features to get used to, so please bear with me at times! Thanks.). Visited US States Map ... read more
