Well hello to everybody, or maybe nobody if no one actually reads this. I thought it would be a good idea to start this travel blog for my trip to Chile so that I have some way to let everyone that takes the time to look at it down when I forget to update it. But no, really, give me a couple weeks and I'll try to stay on top of it and we'll all be happy! So here's a little background: I'm going to Valparaiso, Chile through CIEE to study from July 15th (Yep, today!) until January 3rd. Well, let me be clear, classes start on August 1st and end on November 24, at which point finals begin and run until December 10th. At that point, I just have to hope that I've actually made ... read more

I thought it would be a good idea to have my inaugural posting be about my current place of residence: Woodstock, GA. The future can be uncertain, but for now, Woodstock is home - the “basecamp” for my travels. The city is located in the northwest corner of the Atlanta metro area in southern Cherokee County; and neighbors the cities of Marietta, Kennesaw, and Acworth. We’re located approximately 30 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta which means that we’re far enough away from “the big city” to avoid some of the traffic and other hassles; but close enough to enjoy the cultural, sporting, and business offerings that exist there. The City of Woodstock was incorporated in 1897; and due to the area’s abundant supply of water power, some of the earliest industries here were wood carving, yarn ... read more

The Deep South TourDaniel Anderson Well it's been quite a while since our last entry, things have been pretty busy but we haven't done any real major traveling. I thought I would use this entry to fill everyone one in on our most recent comings and goings and what we have been up to. It will mostly be to show some of the photos we have taken and I won't bore you with big long winded descriptions of our trip. I recently finished my first semester of Uni which actually went really well. I was quite surprised at the marks I received which were pretty good, but it just goes to show what you can achieve when you actually do some study rather than get on the turps with your Army mates all the time. Fi ... read more

Hi Everyone! How are you all? I hope all is well. Things here are fine! I'm so sorry I haven't written a blog in a while! My last week in Europe was pretty crazy, to say the least. I took my exams last Tuesday and Wednesday and then flew to Oslo on Thursday of last week (June 28)! After an exciting time in Europe, I'm back in the States, and am physically and mentally adjusting again. Little things here or there I am starting to find odd, like plastic bags in grocery stores and the incessant demand for ice in all drinks. On the other hand, some things are very nice about being back in the States! I demanded yesterday that my sister take me to Chipotle for a burrito. For some reason, Mexican food ... read more

I had fantastic help from everyone along the way--THANK YOU!! I'll write more later and add photos.... read more

The first US Social Forum was in Atlanta, Georgia where several thousand people came together under the theme of “Another World is Possible and Another US is Needed”. I wasn’t sure what I had to offer among thousands of committed people to social justice, but it was a great place to examine my personal role and what more I should be doing to create a more just world. ... read more

Thank you for all you good luck wishes: they held out until Atlanta. Just as we arrived, so did a big flash of lightning. You know, I just had a hunch that Atlanta was as far as I was going that night, and I was quite correct. My flight to Peoria was cancelled and I had meager, but free accommodations at the Wellesley Inn in Atlanta. I have never experienced weather so uncomfortable: a night time that was hot and raining. And, even though I had flown through breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, luncheon, and supper with small portions of plastic wrapped carbohydrated trans-fat food substitutes grudgingly handed out from stainless steel cart vendors, I was really, really ready for some real food. Now, if you are stuck in Atlanta and staying at the Comfort Suites, ... read more
