Whoever invented wireless internet was a genius. It definitely helps pass the time during a four hour layover in an Atlanta airport. This is my first time flying Delta, which was pleasant enough but nothing spectacular. The in-flight movie was “Love Story” which seemed like a random choice considering it’s only about 3 decades old now. Fortunately, I had the row to myself so I didn’t have to deal with the awkwardness of sleeping next to a stranger. Not that I used that to my advantage since I only got a few winks worth of sleep and spent the majority of the flight watching a movie on my personal DVD player. It’s a beautiful morning here in Georgia even though its barely dawn back on my own time zone the other coast. Right now the ... read more

After a massive breakfast at the attached restaurant, we checked out of the nondescript Best Western, pleased that we weren't charged extra when I admitted that CJ had 'posted' the 2nd door card between the airconditioning louvres. We drove along the coast up to St. Pete's Beach, which sits at the bottom of a chain of islands roughly half-way up Florida's West Coast near Tampa. The beach sand was amazing - almost like bleached flour. I needn't have worried too much about the motel I booked in advance. It was divided into 2 rooms (always a bonus!) and was clean, if a little tired, on a main highway in Clearwater. The whole area reminded me a lot of Perth, with its water and causeways and laid-back atmosphere. We played minigolf on the first day and found ... read more

This is just the beginning, family and friends. This is the first of many travel blogs from me to you. Once I start taking pictures, I'll add links so you can see all of them! I'm getting geared up for my move to S. America. I've given notice at my job and I've moved out of my 1st apartment and back into the Logan's house. I'll be there for the next 2 weeks. But first, I'm off to Spain!! I'm going to Madrid on Thursday 2/1 until Tuesday 2/6. And then I'm driving from Atlanta to Baltimore (2/18-ish). On Sunday 2/25, I will fly to LA to spend some time on the West Coast (hopefully there will be some sun; I could use the color). I will leave for Buenos Aires on 3/1 from LAX, connecting ... read more

Hello Everyone, Hallo Alle Zusammen, friends and family, Freunde und Familie! The countdown to "lift-off" is ticking and I wanted to start by getting you all to add this website to your "favorites", so that you can follow my trip down-under via the WWW. I hope to make all of you jealous with the great pictures that are about to fill up this site, the stories of adventure travel and fun encounters with Koala’s, Kangaroo’s, Kiwis (the human and flying kind :-) and all sorts of other wild animals. Since this is the first go-around for me to keep a “public” travel journal, I beg our forgiveness for a lack of eloquent writing style (after all I was a business major who ended up a volleyball coach, and English is my second language :-) so if ... read more

Well, it is time for Ya'll Convention and this year it is being held in Jekyll Island, Georgia, which is a state park. The island is home to historical architecture and a lovely beach on the Atlantic Ocean. The hotel has an outdoor pool that is not heated. The weather is beautiful, except it is too cold to get in the water. I would definitely like to visit here again, though a warning: you have to pay for parking on the island.... read more

Since Hope and I have arrived in Savannah we’ve spent most of our free time finding our way around town. We’ve been staring at maps and making wrong turns to locate close by grocery stores, the nearest Sam’s Club, and of course Hope’s hospital. Most of our quest has been for a gym and we’ve finally found one that meets our standards, although it was no easy task as the facilities were either too small or too smelly. We’ve apparently become gym snobs. Our apartment is spacious compared to Tahoe. We actually have adequate closet and cabinet space. It’s located in “Georgetown,” which is on the south side of Savannah. Georgetown isn’t like the charming historical downtown. It’s full of suburban strip malls and apartment complexes. But it’s none the less safe and convenient to the ... read more

This entry will be a combination entry from 2 different trips. May 2006: World of Coca-Cola / Olympic Park January 7, 2007: Georgia Aquarium / The Varsity / Random Atlanta Pictures. ...and so I begin, with the recent trip being the first I will talk about! The Georgia Aquarium is an AMAZING facility! There are touch pools where you can get 'hands on' with Sting Rays, Shrimp, StarFish, and other critters. (I declined on touching the shrimp... that's just gross!) There are areas where you can watch sea otters and sea lions at play. You can stick your head into a dome in the penguin exibit. Not to mention Beluga whales! There are currently 3... one passed away last week unfortunately. (It had been rescued from unfavorable conditions as a part of a theme park in ... read more

It was a lovely mid-November afternoon. The sun was high in a cerulean sky and its warm rays were reflecting off of the choppy green surface of the bay. A light breeze filled our sails and propelled us towards the inevitable, a confrontation with the privateer Lynx. I was sailing aboard the Californian, a replica of an 1847 Revenue Cutter, which holds the title of “Official tall ship of the State of California”. The privateer Lynx, a replica of an 1812 Baltimore Clipper schooner, had come to take control of San Diego Bay and the Californian rose to the task of defending its home port. I was one of many volunteers who had signed on to help the crew of the Californian defend the bay - Oddly enough, the Lynx was filled with an equal number ... read more

North America » United States » Georgia » Suwanee January 2nd 2007

A couple days after Christmas we headed up to Georgia to visit my stepfather's sister Jane and her family for a few days. My parents sat in the front and my nephew Cristian and I were in the back. We had enough luggage to be going away for a year - more actually. It is a good ten hour drive to Suwanee, GA from Lake Worth, FL so we were well prepared. Cris had his video games, a portable DVD player, and books to keep him occupied. I also had a book so we were good. The ride was mostly uneventful, except when we had to wake the boy up when we stopped for lunch at McDonald's. I know - more McDonald's. But this was a road trip without much in the way of options. He ... read more
