August 5 - Today was a good day. I woke up at 7:30am and decided to look for a new place to live for the rest of my time in Prague since I didn't sleep well. I looked at some places on the internet but realized all the good ones were far away and I was tired of being far from the center. So I decided to stay, for at least another night. With that done, I made some instant noodles for breakfast and checked out some other information on the internet. When I was ready I walked out and searched for the nearby old town. Of course, using my map I went the wrong way initally, like usual. But I made it there soon enough and it was perfect. The weather was gorgoeous, with beautiful ... read more

August 6 - Today began lazily. It was raining and I stayed in for a while to work on my blog, which was useful. I decided that today I would take a tour of Kutna Hora, a town about an hour away that is famous for its bone church. Normally I would just go on my own as a day trip, but I decided to take a tour to get some more information about the place and because the public transport seemed a little difficult. The tour met at 11am, and by then I had finished the blog work, paid my hostel for tonight, and the rain had stopped. When I got to the tour people, Eva, the girl who would be running the tour today, told me that they need six people to do the ... read more

August 4 - Woke up today early, as usual. I saw Daria's mom before she left for work and she made me promise to eat some breakfast and to wake up Daria. I let her sleep but she work up early anyway. She made us some tortillas with cheese for breakfast that were delicious. Then we sat around watching some tv, including a cartoon movie about a horse in the wild west. Weird. Daria's mom came home at 11am and then we left for Cesky Tesin in the Czech Republic. It took a little longer than expected to get there as they were setting up for the tour de Poland to come through that day, like the tour de France. But we got there with plenty of time to spare, and so I bought the ticket ... read more

August 2 - Today I left Krakow. A shame, because I really like the town, but I have a few more places I would like to go before I go home, and I am starting to feel in the mood to go home. I woke up around 8am and went down to search for a hostel in Wroclaw, that I would be going to on Tuesday. I booked one that sounded nice, and then had breakfast with a bunch of people at the hostel that I have met over the last couple of days. I had to leave to catch the 11:05am bus to the tram to make it to the hair stylist for my noon appointment. That's right - I had my hair cut in Krakao today. I have been wanting to have it cut ... read more

July 28 - I hate Krakow. Or at least I hate today. I did everything right and it still didn't work as planned. I got up at 4:45am, because I can never sleep as late as I should when I know I have to get up early. It was ready in plenty of time to get the bus at 5:27am. As soon as I stepped out of the building, it started to rain. Of course I didn't put the rain fly on my pack because it wasn't raining when I left. But I was able to hide under a building for the ten minutes before the bus came, so tha helped a little. I followed along with the map as the bus went along, so I would know where to get out. When I thought it ... read more

July 31 - This morning I had to get up at 7am in order to make the 8:42am train to Debica. I'm going there to visit the town where my great grandfather was born, and to take pictures for my grandmother since she has never been to Poland. I left around 7:50am and thought I had plenty of time to make it to the train station. But it was raining and I am walking slower with my hurting feet, so I picked up the pace and got there just three minutes before the train would leave. I got the ticket and found out the train was ten minutes late, which was great since I never would have made it to the platform in time. I sat around there waiting and finally decided to ask someone if ... read more

July 30 - Started an early day today. I spent the morning on the walking tour of the old town and castle. The tour guide was very energetic and very cute. She has a lot of good stories to tell. The tour started at 11am and I had to leave as they got to the castle at 1pm, so that I would have time to get to the bus to Auschwitz at 1:40pm. I grabbed a wrap for lunch and then waited for the bus. It was an hour long ride, and I had to stand for about half of it, since the bus was full. But people were getting off along the way and I got a seat for part of it. My plan was to walk around the concentration camp on my own, rather ... read more

July 27 - I slept pretty well and the itchy has stopped! Yay Benadryl! I woke up at 7:45 and had breakfast and left around 8:30. I found the minibuses and the one to Zamosc was leaving just then, so the timing was great. It took 90 minutes so I was there by 10:15am or so. The town is cute, centered around a perfectly symmetrical square. I wandered around, went into the cathedral, climbed the belfry for some views, went to the museum, had pierogis for lunch at a milk bar, and then ran out of things to do. I am definately a big city girl, at least on vacation. The little towns are cute, but not exciting. I'm not the type who can sit around and drink coffees and watch the world go by, which ... read more

July 26 - I woke up early after a crappy night of sleep. My roommate talked to me for about an hour last night until after midnight and then I woke up itching several times in the night. Even the soles of my feet are itching. But there are no good mirrors to see what it happening. I made my way to breakfast and to think about how to spend the day. At some point I freaked out and decided I needed to leave Warsaw TODAY so I checked on the train times and there was a train leaving at 9:09am. It was already 8am, so I made a mad dash to book a hostel for the next two nights and then packed up quickly and ran away with the written directions to the hostel that ... read more

July 24 - Daria did indeed get up just before 5am to get the early train. I did not. But I was up around 6:30am and getting ready, having breakfast, packing up the last bits. It still looked like rain but I thought perhaps it would hold out. It didn't - it started to rain just as I made it to the bus stop. I got a bit wet walking to the bus and then to the train station from the bus. I managed to make an earlier train than planned, which was nice. Annoyingly, there is no information on the ticket saying what time the train comes, which platform, when it will arrive, so it was lucky I had the print out that the girl from the hostel gave me for the 8:15am train so ... read more
