That clock keeps ticking but I don't feel like their are enough hours to be prepared for the trip. Thankfully we'll have a long plane ride to read travel guides, discuss plans, etc. as I don't think we are walking in to this expedition nearly as plotted as our typical trip. Right now it's nose to the grind getting work done, packing and preparing the house for guests while we are away. It feels like a year of stuff to accomplish until we're at the airport ready to go. Back to work.... read more

Hey, Dennis invited me to join him tailgating for the Atlanta Falcons game. Today they are playing the Cleveland Browns at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Frankly, I wasn't so sure about accepting the invitation at first, Falcon is too big for a cardinal. But after attending a birthday party the night before, then tailgating at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, I had a good time and drank a little bit too much. Tailgating is something, but partying like a rock star is another. Falcons - 0 Cyclones - 1 Go Cyclones! Signing off now, later alligator! -Cy... read more

:-) --- Life will never be the same again --- On part aujourd'hui en direction de la Californie on ne sait pas exactement quand on va arriver la-bas. Nous avons convenu que le retour au Québec serait le 10 décembre. J.P. ... read more

It is 6:30 AM and as usual due to the jet lag/time changes, I could not sleep so I thought I would get up and answer a few emails before packing. Thank you to all of you who I got to see and/or called while I was home. It is great to see friends and family. Sorry it was so short, but know it was greatly appreciated. I check out the scales and I had lost 10 or so pounds, but after being here for the past few days, I think I put it back on...lol It was so good to eat a nice juicey (safe) steak and drink the water from the tap and have just a simple garden salad (I know that is not so safe right now, but it tasted so good!) Well, ... read more

In North Georgia there is a little Alpine Village called Helen seemingly lost in America, but full of good times - partly because it hosts the popular Oktoberfest festival right in the backyard of many other major cities. Walking down the streets allow for many opportunities to duck your head into Northern European shops, get your fill of fudge and other sweets, and of course digest quite a few wursts! Myself, my boyfriend Chris, and my newly married best friends, Kevin & Brittany headed up to North Georgia for the day looking to enjoy the honored tradition of Oktoberfest where it is a requirement to drink beer out of oversized cups and enjoy fellowship with complete strangers (which we did!), but along the way, we had a quick detour... Fall, in my opinion, is the best season of the year. The official ‘autumn’ date falls on September 23, and Atlanta has been really comfortable for the past couple weeks, allowing people to catch some last summer sun before the temperature drops into freezing point. Leaves start to change color, squirrels continue on collecting acorns for upcoming dormant season and everybody moves in a slower pace. It is a perfect athmosphere for all to enjoy. Football season has been great for the most part; I adopted the ‘Yellow Jacket’ Georgia Tech as my home-based team to root for. Unfortunately, back in Iowa, the Cyclones seem to struggle this year, having one of the toughest schedules in the nation by challenging nine teams that played championship bowls last year. My marathon training is doing very well. The ... read more

So before I planned to leave "home" I took 2 weeks before my flight to visit family and friends. It was quite strange having gone full blown for the last 2-3 years; A full load at school, including summers. Bartending 30-35 hours a week til late into the evening. To having a degree in my pocket and finishing a job I had worked at for nearly 3 years. Then walking out the door on September 28th with absolutly no responsibilities for the next 3 months but to get on a flight from LAX to Bangkok. What a feeling. I moved out of my apartment on July 12th but didn't fly out til October 20th. Well I sure as hell wasn't going to sign another lease for a new place and move twice in 3 months; ... read more
