Okay, well, it started as a trip to SE Asia with a little OZ thrown in for good measure. Possibly even Zea Newland. Return to the states in a year or so tops. Now im out here and things have changed. Im in no rush to return to the States and quite possibly might stay overseas indefinetly. Next stop: Seoul Korea-English teacher. Then in July 2008 a trip through China-Nepal-Tibet-India-Africa-Middle East-Eastern Europe. Then by November-December 2008 head home for a month, shake babies and kiss hands, then head back to Korea to work for another year. So I guess by early 2010 I hope to make a big trip to South America for a few months then do some proper travel around North America. After all that? Settle somewhere maybe: Paris, Rome, San Francisco, Seoul???

Jieun and I took our second trip together for my visa run in July of 2008. We only had 4 days but we packed in everything we possibly could. She planned out almost every waking minute that we had in the 4 days we were there. Up at 6 or 7am every morning and out the door on a train somewhere. Great trip, and great photos. ... read more

For Chuseok, the Korean Thanksgiving, we actually got five days off from work. We have a new teacher John and he and I planned to go hiking one of those days. We took off to Bukhansan National Park and climbed, what the locals called, Korea Mountain. Only about 2400ft but definetly the breath taking views from the top. The whole hike lasted around 4+ hours. It was really great to get out of the city for the first time since I've been here; 3 months. We had a great time and the other hikers were more than happy to help us out with directions, a hand, or just some georgraphy of the area. ... read more

We got a new teacher at school from Hawaii, John Wade. I was the only white american among all korean girls and one Korean American for 3 months. Now we got another whitey dude in there. Oh, I love the girls. There great. I don't mind doing quizzes from Redbook "10 Signs Your Man is Dating Your Brother", "Lose 10lbs Eating Orange Peels, Old FingerNails, and Broken Glass. Learn How Inside!!", or discussing the right amount of time to keep hosiery. I'm down, i can dig it. Just not all the time. So needless to say, which means I shouldn't say it cuz it's needless.................? Needless to say it's nice having another guy around for first time since I've been working there. Anyway, John's fresh off the boat and in need of a hearty night out. ... read more

Just a quick mix of photos from my favorite bar in Seoul. I originally walked in all on my own just looking for a place to get a drink after work. I soon met the most endearing group of people that have changed my experience living in Kondae and just being in Seoul period. A great group of people that I now call my friends. No one can speak English very well except for Troy, who has now become my closest friend and guide in my time here so far. Everyone else speaks the best English they can and I try to speak the best Korean I've got and we get by okay. Most of my favorite nights have been at Exit Four. ... read more

September 19th was my 27th western birthday but I'm currently 28yrs Korean age. I will also be a step closer to 30 on Jan. 1st 2008, when i turn 29 Korean age. On my birthday I headed down to my favorite bar Exit 4, with my best mates and had some cocktails. It was going to be a low key affair but Troy got me a cake and Josh got me a birthday gift, and the hilarity insued. We had copious amounts to drink at Exit 4 before heading to Harlem in Gangnam for dancing and mild debauchary. All in all it was a fantastic evening with some great mates, plenty of drinks, and good music. ... read more

My job has got to be the best job I have ever had. I go to work at 4pm-10pm Mon, Tue, Thurs, and Fri. That's it. 25 hours a week. The kids are so much fun and my coworkers are great. It's the most relaxed atmosphere everyday. Since I was that kid that would never shut up and continuosly got sent to the office for talking, I'm still amazed that I'm actually standing in front of a class teaching kids. I was a terribly behaved student during the middle to high school years. I was all over the place. Never shut up. Now I'm the teacher, and it's really strange. I like cutting up with kids and I get side tracked so easily and start telling some joke or story and the kids eat it up. ... read more

I had a big adventure today. I put on my adventure pants, then shirt, and finally my adventure shoes. My beat up little red nikes that have been 20,000 miles with me everywhere. Jungles, beaches, rivers, dirt roads, temples, on motor bikes, and planes. They have barely kept themselves together thus far but boy are they my pride and joy. So I went on an adventure. I love that I can take the metro in one of the biggest cities in the world, get off, a SUBWAY, and climb a mountain. I traversed the mighty Seoul Tower this evening just before the sun went down. Unfortunatly the sky was filled with smog and I couldn't get proper pictures of the city. But it was a fun adventure no less. I also heard you can get ... read more

So I finally made it to Seoul on Thursday June 14th. Had a roomate, Ian, in the hotel that CDI put us up in for the week of training. He has a friend Matt who has been here for 2 years, so he obligingly became our guide for our first weekend. We went out and had a couple crazy ones, as you do, on Friday and Saturday. I was suprised to find that people in Seoul just don't go to bed. It doesn't matter if its the weekend. The culture here seems to be that you go out any night of the week. Now, its not quite like going out in the west. People meet after work and have dinner and drinks. Now it still gets messy, but its not going to the pub and ... read more
