You said what?
This was our McDonald's stop on the way to Georgia. He got excited about eating when I took the camera out. A couple days after Christmas we headed up to Georgia to visit my stepfather's sister Jane and her family for a few days. My parents sat in the front and my nephew Cristian and I were in the back. We had enough luggage to be going away for a year - more actually. It is a good ten hour drive to Suwanee, GA from Lake Worth, FL so we were well prepared. Cris had his video games, a portable DVD player, and books to keep him occupied. I also had a book so we were good. The ride was mostly uneventful, except when we had to wake the boy up when we stopped for lunch at McDonald's. I know - more McDonald's. But this was a road trip without much in the way of options. He was cranky and didn't want to get up and certainly didn't want to eat. Solution? Take pictures of him eating. He's a big ham and will act whenever the camera is on him. After lunch we watched Monster House and he drifted back to sleep for a quiet while.
We finally arrived just in time for dinner, after we did all the hugging and

Is this natural or chicken finger induced? saying hi to everyone. Jane, her husband Ken, and their three kids Ryan, Kevin, and Megan were there, as well as Dick's parents who live in the area, and his sister Barb and her husband Kim, who were also visiting. Then of course there was the dog and the two cats that had to be talked to and played with. In my mind, anyway. The town itself is really pretty, lots of green and trees. The houses are amazing. Jane and Ken have a great two story house with an enormous finished basement. I even got my own room. Well, it was Ryan's room but he slept in the basement. Thanks Ryan!
We spent about a total of 5 days there, and it was a nice time. One day all the women went out and got pedicures, which was such a treat. I hadn't had one for a year, and I do love them. My feet definately worked hard all last year and earned a good rubdown. And they stayed looking pretty for about a month, not bad. Another day we all went to the movies. It was my first theater movie since Istanbul in August, and we saw
Bok-bok-bok
This is Cristian's new favorite distraction - being a chicken. Night at the Museum. I tried to see a different film, but the times were off. The one we saw was funny though. Most days we just sat around relaxing, chatting and catching up. It was really nice. We also headed out to a nearby park one day and took a walk. It was just a little chilly, perfect for walking. The boys brought their bikes and we had the dog out as well. It was a nice way to spend a few hours.
New Years Eve was a very exciting day. We were celebrating the New Year, my parent's anniversary, and Kevin's birthday all in one day. We ended up out to an early dinner at the Outback Steakhouse for Kevin's birthday, and were all disappointed that they couldn't sing to him there. Apparently none of the Outbacks are allowed to sing now that one miserable patron complained, but the one by my mom's house didn't seem to get the memo. We sang to him anyway and that was fun too. Then we had a huge spread of food for a later dinner which we seemed to have every day actually, now that i think about it. To
top off the evening, the boys had gone to South Carolina to pick up some fireworks the day before (they are not allowed to sell them in Georgia), so in between rain showers they lit off rockets and all other kinds of things that made noise and light and went flying. It was a good show and I even got to try on the fireworks safety glasses, even though I never did light any off myself.
One temporarily tragic happening in Georgia was that I went one day to get my hair cut. I finally consented and felt ok about it. After all, I hadn't cut my hair in about 13 months at this point, and it was time. The woman who cut my hair was Vietnamese and chatty, so we talked about my time in SE Asia and my jade buddha necklace (not too green, not too blue) while she worked away. When she was done I got a good look and was completely horrified. I told her I wanted it a little shorter with long layers. She made it much shorter with weird shorter layers that were much too much. I came home, washed it again, blow
dried it, cried a little, and then kept it up in a ponytail for days. I am better with it now but am still not sure what I can really do with it to make it right until it grows long enough for me to cut it all the same length. Still trying to work with it and get something done.
Overall, I had a great time and just wanted to thank Jane and Ken for having me to stay. I hadn't seen them for years and it was great to have some catch-up time.
We left on January 2 and headed on our way to Siesta Key, FL, so they could drop me off on their way home to stay with my grandma for the next six weeks.
