Well, here we are in the yucatan penn. headed off to Tulum. Left Xalapa, drove through Veracruz, ate some fresh shimp at a "truck stop". Muy rico! Stayed the night in Catemaco, a village know for its shamans. We stayed at Hotel Brujo, woke up, walked around the lake, and hit the road. We have endured about 5 van searches. I try to be friendly to the federales, but they are a very serious breed, then shortly on our way. Uxmal was beautiful, but the most scorching place yet, no wonder they left from lack of water. Chichen Itza "place of the well of the itza" was the largest and most impresive city yet. The grande comote provided this city to dwell longest. After, Itza, we had some time to wander through the back roads to ... read more

Hello avid readers! Sorry for such a delay between entries. I feel as if I have writer´s block. Maybe it´s because I hear Spanish all morning and then I have to switch into English. My mind just doesn´t seem very clear at the moment, so we´ll see what comes out! Ok, rewind. Last weekend I went to the historical city of Queretaro. It was about an hour´s bus ride from San Miguel. First, we stopped to see an enormous aqueduct. The legend behind it´s creation is very romantic! Supposedly, a man fell in love with a nun and asked her what she would ask for if she could have anything in the world. She asked for fresh water. Smart lady! Her convent was up on a hill and far away from any rivers. So he built ... read more

Hello out there in blog-land, Today´s entry includes tales of me being vintage Brett and of course getting myself in trouble by trying to be clever...so here goes. I´m sitting in Spanish class, which at the moment I do from 9 to 1. Starting tomorrow it will be 5 hours because I decided I needed an extra hour of personal tutoring in order to do some remedial Spanish work. So....I´m sitting in class yesterday and the teacher teaches us the verb ¨to lie.¨ In the previous lesson we´d learned career words, so I decided to put a whole sentence together with the words ¨to lie¨and ¨lawyer¨¨My sentence, using the past tense that we´d learned the previous lesson....went something like this. ¨Los abogados mentaron¨or...¨The lawyers lied.¨Good news, grammatically speaking...nice sentence. Shouldn´t she be happy that I ... read more

Mexico City, El Ciudad, has 22million inhabitants, a fantastic Metro system, lots of good food and fantastic activities. Every store, restaurant and street vendor has a turned on TV watching either soap or the beautiful game. Most sidewalks in the city are covered with street vendors, selling anything and everything, leaving only space for single file walking, if that. The Hostel Mexico City, on Republica de Brasil No.8, email: reservacions@mexicocityhostel.com is squeezed between a Chinese Buffet and a camera shop, just steps away from the Zocala or Plaza de la Constitucion, creating the centre of the city. This square is proclaimed one of the biggest squares of the world, according to the Turistico info. On one side stands the Metropolitan Cathedral, the biggest in Latin America, behind an iron gate. The inside of the cathedral ... read more

I decided to check out Morelia upon recomendation by a friend from Mexico City. My two nights there consisted of relaxing, walking around the city a bit and getting to know some really interesting people. Morelia is a city with amazing architecture and also has what many consider Mexico´s most beautiful church (see pictures). I met Felipe, Victor and Kurt- three gringo retirees who were chatting outside my room one night, who each ended up having some of the most amazing stories of anyone I had met so far. First there was Felipe- a retired San Antonio high school teacher that must have been about 6 foot 3 inches tall and about 250 lbs who had a long white Santa Claus like beard. Felipe now claims Morelia as his home and is like a dictionary on ... read more

This week has been crazy for me. I have so much I should be doing right now but I feel like a slacker for not posting in such a long time. Plus I want to share with everyone what an amazing weekend I had in Mauata. The beach we decided to visit is a virgin beach, meaning it has not been developed or comercialized at all. There are no hotels, just cabañas and hammocks to rent for the night. We spent the days swimming the ocean, flosting like mermaids and body surfing. The food that we ate was cooked by families in thier houses that also served as restaurants. Mostly only seafood, so I ate rice and beans. But when one of my buddies ordered an extra plate of shrimp, we saw one of the ... read more

After a hectic end to my time in London (for a while) I managed to get myself on a flight to Mexico City. I arrived a couple of days ago and I've definitely taken to this city. I don't recommend watching Denzel Washington in Man on Fire before you get here, however. This place isn't nearly as dodgy as its reputation, although I'm sure there's parts of it you wouldn't want to stray into. I stayed in the historic centre which is filled with beautiful old buildings and local markets. It feels pretty safe to walk around and I've caught the metro today which was cool. It's a good way to check out the population. Unlike in London, it looks like everyone speaks one language on the tube. I filmed some buskers who jumped on ... read more

Trev and Liz After taunting Mexico in our last blog, the country became so cross that it gave us a big dose of humility. When we went to get our ferry tickets on Tuesday to leave on Wednesday we learned that the next ferry we could take would not leave until Friday and that it, in fact, would take 18 hours. We decided that flying is the wave of the future and hopped a flight from La Paz to Guadalajara. La Paz is a cool little beach town that seems to be centered around the local Applebees (pictured). We had a couple of hours after our bus ride so we decided to grab some food at La Fondas. We were just kindof TO'd that they didnt give us full meal pics yet. Even though we were ... read more

June 23, 2007 We drive about 5 hours to real de Catorce. The drive was very easy all on a major cuota. Let me just start by saying this: Oh My Gosh, Real de Catorce is flat out amazing. Of all the cities we have visited none were more amazing. It is almost surreal. Real de Catorce is another example of the boom to bust towns of the silver mining era in Mexico. It is located at an altitude of over 9,000 feet, in the dry mountains of north-western San Luis Potosi. A spectacular view awaits. Silver was discovered in the mountains in 1722 and by 1779 the village was on it’s way! Unfortunately, it’s colonial style buildings, and scenic surroundings have attracted tourists. But, it’s remote location have kept away the tour buses. It is ... read more

Hola Amigos y Amigas, After a sad week of saying goodbye to our family and friends, we got on the plane to Cabo and instantly fell asleep. On Sunday, I can say that for the first time in my life I sat next to a pool all day long and did not move. There were points during the day where this task seemed more difficult than running the marathon, but it was really nice to relax and read. We have spent the last 4 days doing the exact same thing, only getting up to make lunch or head into town for dinner. Just to give you a better idea of our general laziness - Our hotel is a beachfront hotel (literally a 10 second walk) and we did not make it down to touch the sand ... read more
