Planning has begun: Flights are booked, I have my shots, my passport came yesterday and now the stresses of all the minor details are starting to weigh on my shoulders. Packing, what the hell am I going to pack? Everyone that I have talked to says pack a comfy pair of shoes, a toothbrush, your bathing suit and you’re good to go - everything else you can buy! For those of you who know me know that I’m not really the “live without her blow-dryer” type of girl (thanks mom) so I have a feeling my pack might be a little fuller than most. Not only do I have to think about the trip but I also have to lug all my stuff from Vancouver back to Parksville so that Braydon can move in. The month ... read more

Three Sleeps in Vancouver The drive from Banff to Vancouver was fast and presented spectacular views of flooding rivers, burnt out forest sections, some new growth and the ever present meandering bear. The ctitters were busy eating dandelions. The bears looked healthy with masses of good thick fur and not at all emaciated. In the environs of Vancouver, Maple Ridge to be exact we chanced upon a campsite that was close to the Black Sheep Pub and Grill, was within walking distance of the first of three buses to catch to go downtown and had hot water galor but no showers. Pablo and I set up the portable shower and all who so desired filled the pink pail with water from the outdoor hot water tap and gloried in free cleanliness. Doing a small wash ... read more

Here I am kicking it in rainy old Summerland. It’s awesome to have some time to visit with the fam before I head out to the Island. So far I haven’t done a ton of stuff just tying up a bunch of loose ends. I’m hoping a get a bit of time to kick it with my friend Ali before I leave. I had a wonderful birthday dinner last night with my Dad, Melanie, and my sister Liz. It was locates on the lakeside resort overlooking the water. It was so awesome to share our crazy stories and have some time to catch up. I’m hoping that the weather changes so I can hang out @ the beach, but I just looked at the weather forcast and it’s not looking very promising. Oh well, I ... read more

Had a brief phone call from Brian this morning at 4:30am. Their ferry ride was great... spectacular, snow capped mountain peaks and narrow waterways between the many islands of the Alenxander Archipelago. The temperature is down to about 6 at night but they managed to get deck chairs in the solarium to sleep on (as opposed to camping on the upper deck) so "quite comfy". The ferry stoped at a place called Haines and they had their first night camping out. Apparently they have met a chap who used to be a tour guide and so they are hoping to hook up with him in a place called Valdez which is enroute to Anchorage for a couple of days. They will be camping rough tonight on the way and expect to get to Anchorage a couple ... read more

Well I had a nightmare of a 5 1/2 hr flight from Montreal back to Vancouver. I was sitting next to the most rude and arrogant americans I have ever met. This guy was taking all the room and it was imposiible to get some rest what ever I tried. Well I won in the end. In the free section in the hostel fridge was 8 eggs, so I scrambled them up and made sandwiches for the plane as Air Canada are tight bastards and don't feed you. I felt a good one brewing so I turned away from him pretending to be sleeping and pointed my ass in the air. I got the bastards good and proper! They both started f in and blindin and I without a care in world for anyone on ... read more

Life in Canada is finally taking off… well sorta lol. Ive made some fantastic friends who are always there to cheer me up. I am having a great time and am really enjoying hanging out with 3 amazing girls. Without them, I would probably be on the next flight home: Nadine: my life partner, my housemate and my counsellor Jen: my twin; not only does she share my name but she has a younger brother at ag college in qld and did duke of ed! Kim: my ray of sunshine… she is always smiling and happy and puts me in a good mood and she loves the lake wooh! I'm surviving room attending to some degree, each day I fight my way through the Philipinos who are extremely annoying and hav made me shamefully racist. ... read more

Once again sorry I haven't written in a while. I have no excuse this time since I have the internet in my apartment now. Anyways in the past couple weeks i've done quite a bit. Well two week i did a trip to Victoria, Vancouver Island. It was a beautiful little place. I stayed at the Strathcona Hotel that had a couple pub attached to it. There was even a cricket themed pub called the Sticky Wicket which my aussie friend went crazy for. It also had 5 different bars including a patio bar on the roof. Attached to it is 2 beach volleyball courts. I did mostly touristy stuff while i was there. I saw the Fairmont Empress Hotel. It was a massive building that took up a whole city block right on the ... read more

On May 27, 2007, the worst thing I could have possibly imagined happened just outside of Sucre, Bolivia. The bus we were on was involved in an accident and crashed. My girlfriend of four years was tragically taken from us. This was our second bus crash in 4 weeks. It is a difficult thing trying to deal with something as unfair as this. It just isn't supposed to happen this way, especially to someone I loved so much. She was so young, so innocent and so sincere. It just doesn't make sense why. We need to find the strength within ourselves to remember the joys that her presence brought us. Nastassia reached out and touched all of us and we need to be grateful that we were able to have known such an amazing person ... read more
