Springtime in Vancouver

Well hello there humans. I thought it would be alot longer before I was able to make a real update, but it turns out there is a pretty inexpensive internet café in a town called Courtnay which is next door to Comox. There isn't all too much to report yet. So I guess I'll go with what I've got so far. The airplane trip wasn't bad. Actually it was pretty nice. It was clear skies for most of the flight. So I could see most of the ground from the airplane. Those things sure do fly high. Once I landed I got off the plane and grabbed my bag. Once I did that I immediately regretted packing so much stuff. Hopefully once I eat all my food it'll be a bit lighter. I'm not sure what's ... read more

I am back home in Beautiful BC and this is what I need to say in my last blog. It has been 9 months that have had its ups and downs. But mainly UPPPPSSSS!!!!! Thanks for sharing it with me. As most of you know, I've long been convinced that economic prosperity and social justice are equally vital to a healthy and wealthy society. Food security, health and education are rightly deemed priorities for global poverty reduction. Yet what is the most effective way we can help the "average person/teenager" make a difference in the World. I like to ask, "in what area in ones life can someone wield influence." There are many ways, and none of them can be overlooked when we are talking about trying to create a collective awareness. I believe my ... read more

Back on the bus, but this one of I was looking forward to. Usually I chew through books like mm's when I am on a bus, or I spend hours listening to the music watching the scenery half dosing the whole time. But this time I was more like a wide-eyed chip monk, watching the Rockies. This particular drive is famous as being one of the most beautiful. It was nothing short of, spectacular, breath taking, beautiful, captivating, fascinating, astonishing, magnificent, intimidating, lovely, amazing, take your pick or all of the above. It was wonderful in that it was constantly changing. The mountains rise and fall, the clouds blanket the mountains in some places, just delicately wrap them in others, or in others completely disappear. The snow simply dusts the very tops of some mountains, ... read more

Hello all Hope you all enjoying the New Zealand winter!!! ;) So Emily and I have spent a little over a week in Vancouver, before heading north to Whistler for a few days. Job hunting has pretty much gone out the window, as we've found so many new and exciting things to do. We've gone to the Museum of Anthropology, the Vancouver art gallery, watched free beach volleyball at Kitlanso beach, gone up Grouse mountain (although we were rather disappointed that the track was closed and we were forced to take the Gondola). Spent a day a Lynn Canyon (note to future travelers - Lynn Cannon is free and has some lovely forest trails and way less touristy than the Capilano suspension bridge). We ambled down to Chinatown the other day, to poke at all the ... read more

We woke up this morning and found that the rain over night had washed away our half-baked plans to go snow shoeing up the Lynn valley. So, on a whim, we decided to put on our tourist hats and trek into China town to experience bubble tea, chicken claws, dried fish, plastic, hustle and bustle. While not really tempted by the shops selling flattened ducks, snakeskins, reindeer antlers, buffalo tongues and bears testicals, we did get lured into a restaurant for some lunch. The food, a mushroom and broccoli dish and a squid dish, was actually quite tasty, and the servings were big, leaving our bellies nicely full. It was tainted by the fact that the tables were all covered in not just one, but a layer of around ten plastic table cloths. When a ... read more
