Hello all... well the adventure has begun. Brian headed off from Cairns on Wednesday morning at 0630 and arrived safely into Vancouver on Friday afternoon via LA and Dallas. There he was met by Michael and Matthew and they will now all be on a ferry heading north along the west coast of Canada. Apparently they are going budget style and so will be sleeping on the deck! Nice and chilly.... If I understand correctly it will take them about a week to get to Anchorage via the Glacier National Park and Skagway where the ferry stops. I will add more as I hear. It has been a long day. I finally pull off highway onto a small gravel road. After a calorific supper consisting of corn beef bagel sandwiches (Did you know that there can be as many as 300 calories in a single bagel?) I perch my tent on a hill behind some bushes. Have been riding across Northern California on Highway 36, a twisty little fellow whose snakey curves are too much for the logging trucks that have been breathing down my neck on Highway 89 for the previous couple of days. Am camping wild tonight after a pleasant conversation with a security guard who explained if I wanted to stay on his private ranch (field) I would have to pay the annual $5,000 fee. No thanks. So tonight it is just me, my bike, a ... read more

I have finally left Vancouver for my summer vacation. I was a bit scared that the I might have an issue with fast expiring passport, but it all went well... enjoy the view of Vancouver from the sky as well as a cool picture of moon over the horizon from the bird's view. ... read more

Well hello there guys and gals. How's everyone doing? I don't know why I asked that because there is no real way for you to tell me how you are at this moment, well, I guess you could leave a comment telling me how you're doing, ah well. So as you can see by my location I have relocated myself to the lovely town of Tofino. I arrived here yesterday by bus and was feeling so awful that I checked into a motel and didn't leave for the rest of the day. Pretty lame I know, but I was feeling -that- awful. So yes, I guess I should get on with my update. Let me see, where was I last time... Oh yes, I believe the last time I wrote in here I was in Courtenay ... read more

Oh, the sweet justice. I am writing this on Monday, after having worked like I have never worked before all day Saturday and Sunday. I am relishing this day off, even more so because it is a day where most of those people that I was running around for are now working. Ahhhh… Jono is away for work, scoping out a new area that the company has never been to before, and will be back on Wednesday. We both had a day off together on Friday and went snow shoeing, which was awesome. Factors that made it awesome include: · The cost of the day was $1.75. I bought a pair of second-hand snowshoes for Jono ($1.75) and hired a pair for myself for free, courtesy of my job (one of the perks). · The ... read more

Well we are still in Vancouver but we have moved to ANOTHER place! This time we should be here for two months (up until August 13th). It is a one bedroom apartment still in downtown but in the west end. It is a nicer aspect than the last place and it has some views out to the water and sunset which is very nice. Still expensive but as we mentioned in our last email it has been really difficult to find share or cheaper accomodation. Apparently the rental market is similar to back there- 97% occupancy rate. We experienced a bit of drama prior to moving in however, which was not funny at the time but was the next day! The night before we were to move again we tucked into our temporary bed early (9.30pm) ... read more

Hi everyone, This will be my 2nd to last blog entry (I promise:) -- i just have to figure out yet how to download some of the cool video clips I want to share with you… All the time I was traveling through the Yucatan and Mayan Riviera I was trying to pull the lyrics and melody of “THE MEXICO SONG” out of the deep recesses of my mind (the memories are all there, it’s just accessing the storage that gets tricky:) This wonderful song was written by a good friend that many of you may remember from his days playing the lounge and coffee bar circuits in the ‘Wack and other places - Mr. Gordie Ross - now residing with his lovely wife Trish in their beautiful home on Saltspring Island… Gord and Trish take ... read more
