Mon 14th May: Caught up with Mel this morning. It was a painless endeavour. She had arrived in Vancouver on Sunday as well and with a couple of emails I met her in the hostel she was staying at. I had booked into mine for Sunday and Monday nights but where I was staying was a little cruddy so I forfeited my 2nd night there and rocked up to where Mel was staying and booked in. We had a pretty lazy day, catching up on all the gossip over coffee and lunch then after we settled into our room we went for a walk to Stanley Park....and absolutely beautiful park down by the water, really big with a lagoon. As we were walking around the lagoon we came upon a cute little old lady who was ... read more

Yippeeeeeeeeeeee. I went climbing again. Life is good. And, due to my being underemployed, it was mid-week, which gave me an extra sense of satisfaction, and it meant that there were not so many people around. I found a climbing partner in the form of a fellow under employed colleague, going by the name of Tim. He is a local (lives only a few blocks away from us) with a car and knows Squamish like his back yard. We did a nice little multi-pitch climb on the Apron of the Chief. The Apron is the slabbier part of the chief and has a lot of classic moderately graded multi-pitches (around 5.7-5.10 range). We did a nice 7 pitch route called Banana Peel. It was awesome, nice mix of flakes and cracks and run out slab ... read more

Whale watching North America » Canada » British Columbia » Ucluelet By Sazzle DazzleMay 17th 2007Somehow I managed to do all of this for free!!! I love working for Ron - so many benefits and so much fun! 2 hours of whale watching should have cost us $60 each - instead we paid nothing! Woohoo! It was an absolutely wicked day - Kirsty and I had the most amount of fun reliving our youth and being idiots for a couple of hours. Thank you for such a fantastic day babe - you've become such a good friend! I hope our paths meet again!... read more

Love it, love it, love it! Admittedly i did get good weather which, apparently, is relatively rare for Vancouver but I have thought my way around this for if I can move here....when it rains in the city it snows in the mountains - Perfect! I arrived to bump straight in to Pheobe - who i had met in Seattle - and opted to go out for a few wee beverages......there were some fab deals on at the bar beneath the hostel - so we made full use of the opportunity! Needless to say the next morning was a late one - but when we finally got our acts together it was still in need of a lovely leisurely day! (with the illustrious Jon from Fraser Island coming too!) Thus we opted for Gastown - ... read more

Just a quick entry to get launched. Visitors to Vancouver should not miss Lynn Creek Park with its wonderful but easy trails, suspension bridge, waterfalls and gorgeous forest. There is also an interesting welcome centre, gift shop and coffee shop. All access is free.... read more

Hello Everyone Just a quick note to let everyone know that we have arrived safely in Vancouver (yep, they let me through customs!!). First impressions of Vancouver are good; the city is very pretty with the mountains in the background (still with some snow) and the harbour. The city does seem surprising clean. We spent Friday walking around down town doing the little compulsory odd jobs such as bank accounts, state insurance numbers (i.e. tax numbers) and cell phones. So the number for my phone is (778) 997 2932. To text from NZ you add 001 in front of the number. One strange thing about cell phones here is that you have to pay to receive calls as well as sending them - so please only text me!! We are still sorting out accommodation for after ... read more
