Mon 2nd July - Fri 6th July: Arrived in Albany to visit with my cousin Melinda and her family. Was excited to have a July 4th in USA but it rained so was a bit of an anticlimax. While in Albany visited Woodstock (of the famous 1969 music festival), Lake George, Saratoga and spent a lovely time catching up with my American cousin who I don´t see much of. Left Sat for Mexico City. Sat 7th July: Arrived safely in Mexico City after an early start from Albany in NY State. Had to send my backpack through to Mexico City unlocked as I didn´t have TSA approved locks and wasn´t going to buy any just because the Yanks are paranoid about national security. Anyway it arrived with nothing missing ...and more importantly, nothing added to ... read more

Headed out of Anchorage for Whitehorse, Yukon on an 18 hour bus trip. Arrived in Whitehorse just after 1am and had a couple of days there. It was a lovely little "frontier" town. Left Whitehorse for Jasper....again by bus , but this time it was a 36 hour trip and another early morning arrival in Jasper. What am I doing to myself? However, the scenery was worth the journey. Something I would not have seen had we flown. Hired a car in Jasper for a couple of days. Went sightseeing up to Meaigne Canyon, Medicine Lake and Maligne Lake. An absolutely awesome afternoon out. The mornings have been rainy but it seems to clear up as the arvo approaches and with the long daylight going out after lunch still allows 9-10 hours of sightseeing. Travelled ... read more

Can't believe where the time has gone. Seems like only yesterday that we were excited about cruising the Inside Passage and now it's over. Mel and I spent the whole time eating, brinking and being merry. The staff were great and the scenery absolutely stunning. Words can't describe how beautiful it is....neither will the photos do it justice but they'll try. Can't seem to view phots to download any. New camera so perhaps I'm not doing something right. Will get back to this soon.... read more

Mon 14th May: Caught up with Mel this morning. It was a painless endeavour. She had arrived in Vancouver on Sunday as well and with a couple of emails I met her in the hostel she was staying at. I had booked into mine for Sunday and Monday nights but where I was staying was a little cruddy so I forfeited my 2nd night there and rocked up to where Mel was staying and booked in. We had a pretty lazy day, catching up on all the gossip over coffee and lunch then after we settled into our room we went for a walk to Stanley Park....and absolutely beautiful park down by the water, really big with a lagoon. As we were walking around the lagoon we came upon a cute little old lady who was ... read more

WELCOME TO MY 2nd VOYAGE OF DISCOVERY. Fri 4th May: Left Sydney on time. However, just as we were taking off there was a god aweful noise from the under carriage and all of us in Economy Plus looked at each other. The cabin crew were aware of the noise and then the subsequent vibration. Much talking and visits from the Captain and Co Pilot and we continued our journey across to San Francisco. However, the noise was aweful as was the vibration through our section of the plane. There were no emergency lights on nor any other warning system to say "turn around". However, a decision was made 8 hours into the flight that we would put down at Honolulu due to drag on the underside of the plane. The nightmare experience continued at ... read more

Well, this journey is now well 'n' truely over. Not only has this trip been a wonderful voyage of discovery of other cultures but it has also been a voyage of self discovery. What have I discovered? 1) Physically, I'm 52 not 22 (a very important realisation) 2) I'm not as courageous as I thought I was 3) I'm not as independent as I thought I was 4) There is a difference between being alone and being lonely and sometimes that difference is as subtle as it is enormous 5) The human body can sweat from places I didn't know it could sweat from (even as a nurse) 6) Why undies were invented....to soak up all the sweat 7) Ditto for sox! 8) The simplest of things can be the most heart warming and entertaining....something we ... read more
