Hello Bloggers! Last you heard from us we were heading into austria on the last leg of the trip. We hired a car for a few days and drove from the south through the Glossglockner mountain pass (spectacular scenery) on to Hallstadt (the cradle of the Celts) and then to Salzberg where we had a wonderful four days roaming the streets of this beautiful city and soaking up the last of the good weather. From Salzberg we took the train across the border and into the Czech Republic to Prague via a beautiful little town called Czeky Krumlov on the bend [View Full Entry]

Hi all, Trust you are all well.... Jacqui here. Brian is having a snooze today rather than writing this together as we usually do - the life of a traveller! Last we updated the blog we were in Macedonia so quite a bit of water has gone under the bridge since. Lake Ohrid was a wonderful spot. We had a great room right on the shore of what is one of the largest lakes in Europe. Beautiful scenery all around with little churches and monasteries dotted along the cliffs on the edge of the lake. Hopefully we can add some photos [View Full Entry]

Brian lets his hair down in Greece!

Hello bloggers! Since we last blogged we have travelled down the Turkish west coast through the Greek Islands and now up to Macendonia. From Troy where the last chapter ended we continued south along the Turkish Mediterranean coast to Bodrim via Bergama and Selchuk. Bergama was inland somewhat and the site of a huge Roman archeological site complete with amphitheatres, arches, aquaducts and temples (all ruined) on top of a rather dramatic hill overlooking the town and surrounding valley. The countryside has been devistated by millenia of overgrazing, deforestation, and olive growing and [View Full Entry]

Hello blogers! Trust you are all well... it seems the web site crashed last week so we hope you can all see this and that you got the bundle of photos that we added to the last entry from Krakow. Today we are in Brasov Romania and don't have the capacity to add pictures but will do again next time there is the chance. So - since last we updated you all we had a few lovely days in Krakow ... one of our favourite spots so far (cities that is). We then took a bus to Zakopane in the mountains [View Full Entry]

Hi there happy bloggers! Well last we updated we were in Cesis in Latvia. Beautiful little town where we stayed three nights. From there we went by train to Villnus (the capital of Lithuania) where we stayed in the old town in a room with a balcony overlooking a little courtyard. It was actually the living room of an apartment and the "bed" was a fold-out sofa... a bit hard and not so comfortable! The city is quite nice with a large cathedral and square in the centre backing onto a hill with a medieval castle atop. Certainly an improvement [View Full Entry]

Brian being a medieval pig in Latvia!

Hello bloggers... well we are now in Cesis (pronounced Cheses) - a small medieval town (what else?) in the country side about 1.5 hours from Riga, the capital of Latvia. Since our last update we had a couple of days in the university town of Tartu in Estonia - just what hte guidbook said .. a leafy treelined town with history although we didn't really get the mystical ambiance they talked about... From there we hit Riga and were rather dissapointed. The UNESCO preserved town square appears to apply to only one building - the rest were either ugly Soviet [View Full Entry]

Hello all.. We are just coming to the end of four days in the beautiful capital of Estonia - Tallin. a magical medieval walled city on the Baltic Sea full of 13-17 century buildings, churches and towers. We have enjoyed just wondering around taking in the sights and today had a few hours at the beach worshipping the northern sun! Not much to tell as we have been just indulging in hot chocolates, fine European pasteries, Estonian food (not the traditional pig's ears!) and beer! We will try and put a couple of photos on this one to give you [View Full Entry]

Hello happy bloggers! Well our time in Russia is drawing to a close.. we have had a great time so far and have now had nearly a week in St. Petersburg visiting the highlights. Spent the first day walking around the city (8 hours!) going into some of the cathedrals and old buildings, parks and avenues. It truly is a beautiful city with lots of stunning 17th century architecture with ornate facades and baroque decorations and waterways crisscrossed by bridges. Spent the next day visiting the cathedral of the spilt blood - a bit like a large St. Bazils with eastern [View Full Entry]

Hello all, We have both arrived without hassel into Moscow - a huge, hectic, almost overpowering city of 15 million people living in what looks like hundreds of solid high rise apartments across a city that one can't see from one side of to the other - even from the plane. We had a restful day on Tuesday and got out and about yesterday... braved the metro at peak hour (Brian said he had come from the wild back country of Alaska with only bears to contend with to a sea of people - so crowded that one had to shuffle [View Full Entry]
