Hi everyone, happy new year. Sorry for not writing in so long. Things have been a little bit crazy. Over Christmas holidays Dakotah and I travelled back to Kamloops for two weeks of visiting. We had fantastic visits with our friends and Family making trips out to Salmon arm, ice fishing, Clearwater for Church one Sunday and New years eve. But this trip also ended up being a trip of discovery. As I learned that Tim and I will not be planning a wedding anymore. It was a tough holiday season but I know that with God's leading I will be alright So now instead of spending money on dresses and dreaming about our life together I am searching for a good vacation spot for Dakotah and I. And potentially planning for staying here in Yellowknife ... read more

The winter is actually here now. It snowed about 20 centimeters yesterday. I finally figured out how the people here say there is lots of snow here. They really dont get many snow falls but it never melts so there is accumulation. The walk to work was cold today (minus 18) and I have not bought a proper jacket yet so I have improvised. My scarf gets wrapped up over my head and I wrap a long piece of fleece around my bum because my jacket's not long enough. Ya, I look a little ridiculous but I'm warm. That minus 18 Celsius really didn’t feel that cold. We're going to be just fine here as long as I can stand to miss out on all of this time that I could be with my Fiancé, Tim. ... read more

October Thanksgiving weeks: Well, this was an eventful couple of weeks for sure. Here’s a rundown with details to follow if you want to read more as I sense this might be a long entry. We took two weeks away from Yellowknife. Dakotah and I went hunting with my Dad near Salmon arm for a few days, then Dakotah and I did some visiting in Kamloops. She enjoyed spending that time with her friends and went to school for a day. I spent some time with friends and got engaged to Tim. Then we went back to hunting again, out to Lumby this time. While we were in Kamloops, Dad and Mike got a moose and we were successful in getting a deer out in Lumby area. We spent some time visiting cousins out that way ... read more

Well, My week. I went out to Edmonton Monday night for a Job interview Tuesday Morning. I spent some great time with my friend Sue. It was fantastic to meet her wonderful little boy. The interview went well and Sue and I did some shopping in the Big City. I flew Canadian North Airlines, What a fantastic service. You get a real meal and when they serve drinks you they give you a whole can of pop. I wasn’t too excited about sitting on the runway for an hour on the way home though. Initially it was because we were waiting for a part to take up to Yellowknife, then there was a dent on the wing that had to be assessed. Everything was ok and we flew away an hour late. Wednesday and Thursday I ... read more

What a good day. Mary and I went out to her cabin on River Lake. I let Mary know that I wanted to get out of town this Saturday. She let me know that she had to get out to bale out her boat and invited me to come along. Dakotah and Mary's daughter have become good friends so Dakotah hung out with her while Mary and I and the dogs went out the Ingram trail, one of the two roads out of Yellowknife. We bailed her boat out and took a ride over to her cabin. That is a beautiful place. I took a couple of these photos from the cabin lot. Yes there is fish in there, aparently there are really nice lake trout along with the pike in this lake. Daisey had a ... read more

Light rain. Fog. Nippy. Location:Yellowknife Temperature:5 °C Comfort level:-8 °C Dew point:4 °C Barometer:1000 millibars Humidity:93% Visibility:5 km Wind:41 km/h from 240° Southwest by west Last update:Tue 8:00 AM MDT Light rain. Fog. Nippy. is not how I would describe the weather here today!. It is miserable. It feels like the temperature and moisture of a Vancouver Rain Storm in December. But add to that a gale force wind. I can hear the sideways rain pounding on the side of our office building, feel the walls shake and see the trees bend over with the wind that howls around the corner of the building. Boy, I feel sorry for those folks living on houseboats today on the Great Slave Lake. Its supposed to turn to snow in the afternoon and repeat this each day here until ... read more

We finally got out and took some pictures of the wobbly roads. They built ON the BOG and disrupted the permafrost. It’s a really weird experience driving on these roads, the pictures really don't do it justice. It feels a lot like you are driving on a roller coaster. Like that kids elephant ride at the PNE. We can’t believe that the road has sunk so much in places and the concrete doesn’t crack, it just bends down and sinks into the ground. Oh and I got some pictures of a couple of guys working on building a house too. It's incredible how they build around here. Have a look at the picture. Its great. There’s a picture of Dakotah in front of one of the $700,000 houses in this subdivision. There is some really great, ... read more

This week Its funny that the main thing I have the urge to talk about is my walks to work in the morning. It was rainy and cold here almost all week. It warmed up to 4 degrees Celsius this afternoon. There are digital signs up on the street that tell you temperature. Yay. The school board sign also shows the day of the week in English, French and one of the Native languages here. I haven’t figured out what language it is yet. The puddles on the road were frozen solid on Monday morning but in many ways it reminded me of Kamloops with the clear, bright, blue sky and crisp dry air. But, then it turned into drizzly, cold weather again, not frozen but cold and damp. I get a real work out walking ... read more

Talitha is Doing really good with her Driving,,, Yellowknife is a real music town... There seems to be more facilities for live music here than in Kamloops. I went out on Saturday night and watched some performers. I love live music, I miss the live music that I got to sing and dance to every sunday. We have a mandalyn at our house. I hope the girls learn to play it. That would be great! ... read more
