It’s been a couple weeks since I wrote, so there is a bit to catch up on. I can’t believe I have been here for a month. Despite everyday being quite different with new surprises coming at me consistently, I’ve gotten used to a kind of basic routine. I’ve been enjoying walking a lot, usually at least 3-4 miles each day. Despite the heat and getting drenched in sweat, its more fun to walk to the rehab center than ride the dolmesh/bus because there are so many things to look at along the way- lots of window shopping, interesting people, and of course it’s good exercise. Sometimes I run in the morning or run to the sea for a short swim, but as it gets hotter it’s not enjoyable to run if I get up too ... read more

Over the past few days, we have visited the Old Port of Jaffa/Tel Aviv, done some swimming in the warm, clean waters of the Mediterranean Sea and learned the pitfalls of asking for directions on the streets of Israel's major cities. We also visited with some friends in Nes Ziona, the Himmelhoch's. They welcomed us with a grand feast of meat, vegetables and fruit. David really liked the cake. The children and grandchildren were there as well and got to speak the "universal language" of video games with Micah, Jonah and David. Today, would took a very informative driving tour around western Jerusalem. We went to Yad Vashem and got some very moving description of the sculptures and some of the accessible exhibits. David is too young to go into the historical section with the more ... read more

Well, it seems that my trip has actually started. I dont think I believe it yet but it had better become real sometime soon. My flights yesterday were long and grueling. I think I slept only a few hours. I ended up meeting a very nice Indian graduate student who will be presenting a research paper on offshoring at the World Economic Congress. She was really bright and we talked about many things during my three hour layover in London and then on the airplane. She ended up helping find my way to my hostel with very little trouble to myself. I would really enjoy seeing her present along with the some of the keynote speakers, but registration is a little pricey. We shall see. At the hostel I ended up meeting three Israelis and a ... read more

So...funny story. Yesterday I was walking towards home in a semi-happy daze after going to a job interview (probably won't get the job but I had fun in the interview anyways!) I then see a fire truck passing by, which always confirms to me that because I focus a lot of my energy on the FD, this is why I see it everywhere. I'm walking along and these 2 children ask me to help them get their basketball down from the rooftop where it got stuck by throwing a rock at it. I say Sure why not (this was my 1st mistake) and I throw the rock (2nd mistake). It gets stuck right on the edge of the roof, so I climb up on the small fence - we're talking about 2 feet here - no ... read more

Chelle had to go to Muscat for work late last week so she managed to convince her lovely boy to drive over on the weekend and come to make some bubbles with her. I flew to Muscat on Monday night and then worked there on Tuesday and Wednesday meeting clients and doing some training. Muscat runs a slightly different weekend system than Dubai. They have their weekends on Thursday and Friday. So I had booked us a couple of days diving for the Thursday and Friday at the Oman Diving centre. This is a diving centre that is a little way out of town, near the Shangri-La hotel. It looked quite nice from the outside but we were a little put off by the attitude of some of the staff. They were german and everything had to ... read more

We'll we made it over after long fights and some delays in Frankfurt due to thunder and Lightning. What a neat country. Coming by shuttle through Istanbul was very interesting with the traffic was crazy but organized. Miles of hills covered with houses/Apartment buildings. This is the biggest city in Europe and it shows. Got in late Wednesday night Turkish time and then back up early to go to the competition field 20 minutes from our Hotel. Meeting some interesting people and the local Turks are very Hospitable. Even with the language barrier a smile goes along way. We had a midnite sandwhich at a stand on the road down from the hotel and we are all wondering what the meat was but felt it was best not to ask. Everyone was looking at us as ... read more
