We're off!!! After a few relaxing days spent in Warrington with Eileen and Angelo we set off in our big red van for France. During those few days we cleaned out the van (massive job it was) and bought the essentials like a tent, a camp stove and butane gas, 2 chairs, an air mattress and some groceries to get us by on for a few days at least. We also managed to have a bbq (yes the weather held out for us) at Doug and Pam's (friend's of Lew's Dad). Keith, Bob and Barbara also came which was great as we hadn't seen them since they were in Australia a few years ago for our wedding. Eileen and Angelo took us out to dinner at a tasty Indian restaurant for our last night and we ... read more

So... we spent 5 nights in San Sebastian and unfortunately the clouds once again followed us for most of the time. On one night Tezz was drinking with another Aussie we'd met along the way, just hanging out and talking around our campsite until the security guard came and said we had to move or go to sleep (but he said it in Spanish so we didn't really understand until he started directing us out of the campsite). I went to bed, Tezz said "I'll just go out to finish my drink then I'll come back". This was at about midnight. At 4.15am I'm woken up by a drunk Tezz stumbling over our tent and rolling on in squashing me in the process of getting into the tent. Very apologetic of course. The next day ... read more

I spent 2 days wandering the streets of the Plaka and up to the Acropolis and took an excursion out to Delphi to see where the Oracle once stood to gabble her prophesies. Most people I know have indicated that Athens is a filthy city and doesnt have much going for it. I found the tourist area around the Plaka to be quite nice and 2 days is the right amount of time to spend. Although, I have to say the port at Pireaus is absolutely filthy - trash biled up all over the place - I took the train out here to check it out and get a ferry ticket - all that is here is the ferries. Seeing the old Acropolis and the ruins at Delphi was pretty amazing - and would have been ... read more

On Sunday, July 15th, we traveled by car for 3 hours, (certainly it would have taken me 9 hours for sure with the 2 lane hiway with most driving on the shoulder to allow traffic to pass in the middle from both sides) and with all the turns and curves. Nick is a fast driver as all are here. The road goes through country and cities and villages, through the Korinthos Canal. Beautiful. Also beautiful was the new hugh Rio Antirrio Suspension Bridge at Patra. So impressive. The overnight stay at Alex's apartment and then to the beech and eating picalea at night so wonderful. Then on Monday off on the ferry to the island of Kefalonia.... read more

NOT FOUND -- In case anyone was worried, I am still alive and well. I have a great trip home to the States and now back in Russia for another six months. I have a lot to write and tell about because you all know me, the Traveling Frog as they call me here in Russia, I made a stop in Brussels and Copenhagen on my way home and Quebec City on the return trip. It is past my bed time, but I did want to say hello and let you know I am still well. Thanks, Vince P.S. These are not my pictures so do not worry if they do not make sense with this blog entry. I promise, I did not go someplace else and not tell you about it...lol... read more

Today was a great day, full of rest. We woke up at 11 a.m., and were able to do a little resting, reading and even yard work with Grandma. It rained, and was a perfect day to just lay inside and read. Grandma fed us well, which is always nice upon returning from rigorous travel, to have a homecooked meal. Wednesday, we leave for our southern Germany trip. Because of the unexpected effect of the pound ($$$$)on our British Isles trip, and different licensing rules for driving among the Czech Republic and Austria, we are "changing" our destinations a little. Our trip will be down to see Bavaria, Switzerland, and some Germany. The trip will, nevertheless, be a wonderful trip, filled with many places we were hoping to see. Prague and Vienna will have to wait ... read more

Have you ever planned something thinking it is going to be special. You do the research, you make sure you have everything in place and that everyone is on board...you're actually looking foward to the day...then a late driver and untimely complaining, and your something special turns into something to forget. Today started out not so good and ended not so great. I thought I would leave the blogging to others who may have found something special in the day to write about. Hey, a day like this was bound to happen. So, take it away Liz: Hey this is Liz: Well first off, we had to wake up REALLY early to catch our ride to Pompeii, considering the city is 3 hours away from Rome. So we got up at 6:15 in the morning which ... read more

Sex, Drugs and Wooden Shoes Our arrival in Amsterdam was fraught with one of the craziest airport experiences that we’ve had to date. You’d think that airports around the world would become crazier the further you moved from the first world but our experience has been just the opposite. Since most of Asia isn’t as security conscious and has smaller less crowded airports, things aren’t incredibly crazy. The moment you step back in Europe, the crazy factor jumps a million-fold. Thinking that Iceland’s main airport couldn’t get that many people traveling through it at 6:15am on a Sunday was a huge mistake on our part. We dropped our rental car off in the parking lot of the bus station and got on the 5:45am “Fly Bus” which took us to the airport. There may have ... read more
