Geo: 38.7817, -9.50034Got back on the mini bus and we headed towards the coast. We came to Cape Roca. This is the most western point in Europe. There is a lighthouse here and lots of wind. Took a few photos and then we headed back to Lisbon.... read more

Europe » Portugal » Lisbon & Tagus Valley » Lisbon July 31st 2007

Geo: 38.7072, -9.13552When I got back to Lisbon, I headed towards the elevator. After waiting only 10 minutes in the queue, I was up the top. It was very cosy up here, especially with a cafe here! It was a great view of Lisbon. I could see the cathedral, river, the castle on the hill and some of the city's squares.... read more

Geo: 51.2773, 1.08052Hi all,So the last day and a half Steve and I have been touring around Kent with our "local expert". We have explored everywhere from Whitstable around the coast to Dover and inland to Canterbury and a few other small towns. We have looked at some housing of different varieties. Some good, some not so good (one Steve couldn't even stand up in the tiny little bathroom!). We took pics of two places. I'll try to post some pictures next time I am online.Weather has been great! Sunny, a bit chilly but not raining. Tonight dinner with some Pfizer folks. Tomorrow I report to the site for the day..... then freedom!I'll share more about the houses later... I need to find some lunch!Love to all.... read more

Annddd...that's pretty much it. We get to Pisa @ night after an extremely bumpy ride provided to us by the discount airline, Ryanair, we arrive at the campsite where we realized that we weren't actually staying inside a building but a trailer. Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence July 30th 2007

OKAY guys: as promised, here's the actual writing for the florence BLog! yayyyy! insert cheering here. SO. Florence, Italy! Well, the first day ended up with me being permanently stuck to a chair due to massive stomach cramps, followed by an incredibly long and heavy thunder storm. So of course, we did one of our favourite things this trip: we napped. After waking up, Ruby and I headed out to explore and to get dinner. We immediately realized the differences between Florence and Barcelona. I myself found it to be a lot less "chill". A lot less greeneries, less cafes, less places to just sit and people watch, and less parks. the sidewalks are also soooo narrow that in many places, there's only enough space for people to walk one person at a time... despite all ... read more

Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice July 30th 2007

Wow, so it feels so weird to be writing about Venice, while i'm in England working, and my eurotrip has finished..likkkeee....almost 2 weeks ago! but, ahh well! you guys can still enjoy! Here's the Venice section... We arrive in Mestre, which is one of the mainlands close to Venice. We look around us and all we see are construction sites, metal yards and run down houses. Not impressive. We get to our hostel, where we are sharing a room with one other person, and we chat with her a bit before going into counting sheep land. The next day, we wake up and we much down our breakfast, and i consume a coffee, with what i presumed to be milk, but was in fact a hell of a lot of cream. My stomach begins to churn ... read more

Europe » Slovakia » Bratislava Region » Bratislava July 30th 2007

Currently I am sitting at a hostel in Vienna which is surprisingly very nice and clean. But, before arriving in Vienna myself and 5 of my comrades ventured slightly east to the city of Bratislava in Slovakia. The 5 hour train ride from Prague to Bratislava was priceless. Just sitting back and enjoying the extensive green countryside and small cottage villages over a beer with 5 friends was a memorable time. When we arrived in the city it did seem a little less sanitary than we have been experiencing in Prague but we soon found that it was just a less desirable area of town. When we arrived at our Hostel (btw this city is where the recent horror movie Hostel took place, kinda intense) we immediately checked in and hustled downtown since we were only ... read more

So right now, i'm writing this as there's a crisis occuring in LONDON. ...so yea, they found a bomb (undetonated) in London i believe, and with the Glasglow airport attempted bombing, london/england has gone completely crazy! and so i jus got news rite now that Heathrow airport has evacuated all the arrivals, and refused to let in any new ppl, and all the ppl that are there, are being pushed out, or sumthing like that. and since today, we've been receiving new students that's totally delayed all arrivals. and so we're all here in the office waiting for a group of spanish kids to appear, but as of yet, nothing. zzz... SO: Paris! We fly into paris, and we then get VERY lost on the metro because of the crazy amont of lines, stops and added ... read more

Europe » Poland » Lesser Poland » Auschwitz July 30th 2007

While being in Poland we were told by others we ran into throughout our trip that we should go to Auschwitz because it does something to you that pictures and hearsay just cannot do. The best way to describe the visit is, "powerful." Auschwitz was the largest concentration camp during from 1940-1945. It housed at any given time 90,000 inmates’ 90% of which were Jewish. What makes the statistic even more horrible is the fact that the 90,000 were made up of 1/4th of those who were allowed to live when they arrived at Auschwitz. 70-75% of those who made it to Auschwitz were gassed instantly. Walking the same path where people were told they were going to take a shower and then were brutally murdered was heart-stopping. The gas chambers were a horrendous last sight ... read more
