Vejam as fotos e beijooooos!... read more

Ahoj friends and acquaintances ! First of all I know I promised some of you to provide a road report from my days "Down Under" in January, and therefore ask for your indulgence for this broken promise. My only excuse is that I've been living by the "law of lesser effort" for too long. I haven't given up the thought reconsidering writing about the land of Oz (Australia), but as we all know, human memory is short...So, in order not to let everyone (mostly myself) down, using the latter pretense for not putting the experiences from my latest trip into script, I'll exert myself by typing down a few humble thoughts from the Czech Republic : Even though there is much much more to the Czech Republic than its ever-so highly praised capital, I'll start ... read more

Life is zooming by for me at the moment. I don't have any crazy cultural tales to share. This is the country where trains run on time, the grass is always short, there are unlimited supplies of chocolate & cheese & you can hear cow bells tinkling in the distance. The contrast to India is astonishing, but I love both places. I've started working in "proper service" every second weekend now & have consequently mastered the art of folding cloth napkins. Ha. There is a knack to it you know. But then again there is often a right & a "wrong" way to do everything in Switzerland, especially in the hospitality industry. Sometimes I wonder what on earth I'm doing here! I don't make a habit of being covered in beer foam or deep frying lettuces, ... read more

The ferry over from Split to Ancona was actually fairly high-rolling. Among the amenities available on board were a restaurant, bar and casino. It was a 10 hour overnight voyage, so I decided to book a bed in a 4-bed cabin so I could get some decent sleep and in the process manage to score a 10€ discount for being under 26 - score! Also, the boat was pretty empty, so there was no-one else in my cabin which was sweet as. The only thing that sucked though was the fact that the journey ended at 6.30am so I was pretty tired as I zombied through Italian immigration. "Did you not sleep on the boat?" asked the officer. "No, not much", I laughed back. The officer though wasn't joking though, as I had held up the ... read more

Europe » Spain » District of Madrid » Madrid July 31st 2007

Madrid goes on and on and on etc... I have been to Madrid several times, parts of it hasn´t changed in years but there is a whole lot of it that is growing and changing all the time. They are adding neighborhoods the size of The Dalles but in 20 story apartment building, so it is much more compacted. Madrid is adding subway lines to reach these new "barrios", and it is already one of the largest subway systems in the world. In every city I visited there was new construction of houses, condos and apartments, Spains economy is one of the fastest growing in Europe. Tourist and people all over Madrid so I wasn´t very excited about standing in line for sites that I had already seen on previous trips, so I hopped on one ... read more

I’m sitting in a laundry mat in Paris. Why? Haha, because yesterday I really had to urinate so I went into a bar and used a broken urinal. Let me explain. I finally got sick…I was able to avoid all the ill persons in Florence, but I finally caught the bug; so I’ve been drinking tons of water which has caused my urinary system to act abnormally. I was dumb enough to try to flush it which caused it to splatter sewage water all over me. And my first instinct was to protect my camera instead of running away, then again, I was still unzipped. Other than that minor incident, this has been my favorite city as of yet. Hey, doing laundry gives me time to write this blog. Paris is BEAUTIFUL. Paris is the MOST ... read more

Tuesday, 31st July Day Fifteen, We packed up slowly and used the last of our Internet time before leaving Rome for Pompeii. These were the scariest roads ever! Lane markings would disappear with 3-4 running and drivers cut in and out, especially if we tried to leave a safe distance! We arrived at our site in Pompeii, directly outside the excavations. Mount Vesuvius loomed in the distance. We had a scary trip to the local beach (scary both due to the graffiti and shrine on the beach packed with locals and because we had to be directed out of a narrow street by its residents!) The waves crashing on rocks with Vesuvius as a backdrop were spectacular nonetheless. After some relaxing reading with wine and our new pet dog, we found a restaurant over the road ... read more

We had a full schedule on our 2nd day in Ireland, that started with the Ulster Folk Museum. This place is absolutely FULL of old planes, trains and automobiles. We started in the train section, which we had visited as kids. The trains have arrived here from all over Ireland, and vary in size, from tiny guiness carrying carts to massive steam engines. Kids are allowed to clamber all over the trains, and us big kids did as well. Just as we were heading into the automobile section, our Unlce David, and Aunty Jill showed up, with their friendly grandson, Fraser. It was fabulous to see our relies again!! David hasn't changed much...and still loves having a laugh and pulling your leg. We managed to squeeze in the three levels of machines, before heading into the ... read more

Travel blog for July 31st: So I’m really writing this on August 3rd, but the blog site has been down for a couple days, so I’m going to try to post this as well as e-mail it if I can upload the videos properly. So, the 31st of July Deanna took Lillie and me into Madrid to view the Van Gogh exhibit, The Final Landscapes, at the Thyssen Museum. It was sad because you could see the disparities between the works and guess that whatever was bothering him or whatever affliction he was suffering from in his final days was coming through his painting loud and clear. Then we walked to Chueca to shop for shoes. Most of the shops had closed for the August holiday already or were closed for siesta. We found a cool ... read more
