Last night was pretty fun. We were doing shots of whisky and playing dice poker with Ludo before dinner. Then, once again I broke my 2.5 year vegetarianism. Ria and Ludo made this cheese, ham, and whitloof dish, a typical Flemish dish. That was the most meat I've eaten in a long time. During the day, we went to my Pit's old house and the birthtown of my Uncle Al, Vrasene I think it was called. Then we went to Ria's aunt's house deep in the country, actually in Holland. It was really pretty there. I'll try to get some pictures uploaded soon. Ria's aunt could hardly speak a lick of English, but still insisted on having a conversation. I understood she met my mother before. Then she brought out some beer. I looked at my ... read more

May 17, 2008 When I finally woke up this morning, I didn’t want to start the packing that was in store for the day; so instead, I messed around with pictures and games on my computer. Then I was getting bored, and the packing was imminent, so I decided to get started. Lolina and I had our final lunch/meal together. Then it was back to the packing for about 4 hours. I had so much stuff that it was rather interesting cramming everything into my bags; good think my parents brought some stuff home for me already! The day had finally turned nice with sun and a blue sky, so I decided to go on a walk, one last time, and to go to the last Starbucks that Julie and I hadn’t been to. I walked ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris May 22nd 2008

Hello all. Let me start by saying, there's no way to fit visiting everything you want to see in Europe in a month (and this is only after the first 10 days!). We'll add more pics later, but we've just come back from seeing Mouling Rouge in Paris. It was amazing! Did we mention that we could have gone to the Manchester soccer game (had we spent the rest of our honeymoon money!)...too bad. Otherwise, we're off to Amsterdam tomorrow to go visit a coffee shop. Berlin is next after that! Love and miss you all! D'Arcy and Ivan :)... read more

After an almost 7 month separation, team orson was able to reunite for a three week tour of France. The trip began with a one day layover in Amsterdam, where I took the time to browse the shops and visit the Van Gogh museum. This would come to have later repercussions on my trip. The next day, I flew into Bologna and hopped on a train to team orson world headquarters at Moto Guareschi in Parma. One day later I was packed and on the road. Not wanting to delay, I made the tough decision to slab it to France under clear blue skies. Not such a hard decision though as the Autostrada passes through the Maritime Alps to get to France. Along the Autostrada, they have electronic message boards used to flash warnings to motorists ... read more

Guten Tag! Hope you are all doing well. After being home for 4 months and doing a life-changing volunteer position as a teacher outreach coordinator at Free the Children in Toronto, I am heading off on my next adventure to Eastern Europe. I have never been in this part of Europe before and I don't really speak any of the languages in the countries where I will be travelling to. I will be doing a tour with GAP again which should be fun. The tour starts in Vienna heads to Czesky Krumlov and Prague in the Czech Republic, continues to Krakow and Auschwitz and then down into Slovakia to Bratislava and finishes in Budapest in Hungary. There are a few other places we will be visiting in between. I am doing this trip solo and so ... read more

I arrived Friday around 13:00, just about an hour after expected. All is going well. My apartment has a great view and the next time I lug my laptop to school I will upload some photos. Having no email at hom puts a damper on that (and so does the rain we've had). My exploring has been limited by the rain and jetlag worse than I anticipated, but still, all is well. Classes have begun in earnest and so far they are going well and most students seem, for right now, to be students! I am hoping the weather holds this weekend for a couple of walking tours that have been suggested to me by different folks and in some of the tour books as well. We shall see! But for now, Ciao!... read more

Hallo allemaal!
