21 May 2008 A driving day when we travelled 350K, mainly on motorways across northern Italy from Ravenna on the Adriatic to Levanto, a small town on the Riviera coast. The campsite is very handy for the town and railway station. ... read more

Travel day today. Woke up early - beautiful day so laid all our stuff outside on the ground and packed from there—not a lot of room inside the van. There was a lot more volume so had to expand the blue case! Cleaned out the van and took off with Sandy - our trusty computer navigator leading the way - except the road had been fixed up and was new so she had us the middle of paddocks and couldn’t tell us which of the next two turns was ours - so we guessed and headed off down the motorway in the opposite direction to where we were going. Quick turn around at the next exit and away we went. At our final exit off the motorway, we mistook the roads, had to drive another 5 ... read more

Well to those of you who thought we were crazy for not booking things ahead of time... here's where you can say you told us so. (golf clap). Today was a crazy day of making plans, new plans, and replanning. We woke up this morning ready to head to Paris and with no real plans. We are now ready to go to Munich tomorrow and surrounded ourselves with maps, guidebooks, pens, paper, and train schedules and figured out the rest of the trip... minute by minute. There is literally no time left unscheduled. We are officially planned out. Where's the bar? We're now heading west first toward Munich and then south to Italy, France, Spain and then north to Paris before returning home. Spent the afternoon in Brussels learning Belgian history and enjoying some frites (french ... read more

But, but, but, isn't it supposed to be summer?! It has been VERY cold for the past week or so, a world of difference from my first few days here. Today I caved in and went shopping and bought a jacket (my sweaters just weren't cutting it anymore). Pammy, you were definately right when you said that Europeans have cool looking clothes! Very bright colors, everywere! Anyway, it has been cold, but today it didn't rain, thankfully. Last night I went bowling (Bowlingspielen) with some friends from my school, it was really fun, I got to learn my shoe size in Euopean sizes too! While we were bowling a waiter came by and we ordered drinks (Radlers, half lemonaid and half beer) which he delivered a short time later. It was strange to see 16 year ... read more

Gutentag! I am in Munich right now, which wasn't planned but I am loving it nonetheless. Granted, I'm stuck in an airport for 5 hours but there is a food place nearby serving authentic German food and a little gift shop that I can use to kill some time. My first plane was delayed leaving New Orleans by nearly 3 hours so I missed my connection to Zurich, which brings me here. The plane rides were great. I sat next to some extremely interesting people. While waiting for my first flight to work out the delay I talked with this older man named Bill. He has family in Prague and he was telling me things I should do when I am in Italy. We talked about his family and college, and we talked a lot about ... read more

We've been in Paros for about 4 days now, but to be honest, we haven't been that impressed! We got over here on an early boat and thankfully found acc easy from a recommendation, then spent the rest of the day on the beach which was fine. But apart from that, there isn't much else to do! We had read that it was a bit of a party island but Llandudno seems busy in comparison to here. It's pretty quiet. We've tried exploring some of the beaches that were supposed to be amazing, but really were not that great - although they were in the middle of nowhere and the buses weren't what you'd call exactly regular, so that made for nearly 2 hours waiting at a bus stop! Yesterday we visited Antiparos which is an ... read more

It has been a long day of driving around the French countryside. My life is very hard. Dad picked me up at my hotel at noon today after spending a fun 24 hours on his own. He hadn't been to Paris before and had a good time exploring his neighborhood. We headed out of the city and took "the squiggly lines" (as Dad likes to call them) on an adventure heading in a generally easterly direction. We saw so many beautiful little provencial towns. We kept attempting to compare these farming communities to central to Missouri and the aesthetic care and culture just do not translate. Every village has lined the highway entering the main street with rows of trees and rosebushes. Our favorite town of today was Sens by far, but we had lunch in ... read more
