This afternoon we drove over to Dolgellau to meet Frank, Margaret and Co. for a cream tea. Well, it was a glorious sunny afternoon, though clouds formed as we gobbled the scones, until there was a clap of thunder and a deluge of rain. Luckily we were under umbrellas. Though Martin did a mercy dash to the car to get a special Auntie Gwen brolly! Then the sun returned and we dried off as we had a look round the town. Needless to say, no rain here, and my water butts are very low. However that can be, its only April. What happened to the showers?... read more

this evening I wandered over to have a look and a quiet sit in the wood. The orchids are out, along with bluebells and primroses, but I don't seem to have the knack of my new camera yet - or else its just not as good as the cheap old one! A few photos all the same.... read more

talk about whistle stop! We drove up to the Lake District via the famous aquaduct built by Thomas Telford. What a spectacle - a stag party, dessed as pirates, had hired a boat for the weekend and amused themselves-and us- playing narrow boats. Then off to Ambleside, a pretty village on Lake Windermere, where we spent two nights in a most comfy b and b. We took a boat ride or two, walked 4 miles along the lake, ate chips by the lake in the sunset...........then set off for home via the Bluebird exhibition and Chester, where we stopped to pick up a hire car for Sue and Steve and run the 2 miles round the city walls. Reaching Meifod we stopped for tea at Mum and dad's, where Uncle Frank, Auntie Margaret, Martin, Vikki, Sarah ... read more

We had a very busy day today. Carrie drove us out to the Coast to visit our first REAL castle, Harlech Castle. Our first stop was at a very interesting bridge called the Packhorse Bridge. This bridge is over the River Dovey and was built during the seventeenth century by Dr John Davies. We continued on to a small Welsh Village called Dolgellau. Steve and I were fascinated by the narrow streets and narrow footpaths. We stopped here for morning tea and Carrie and I had a game of chess at the local cafe. The menu was written in Welsh and in English. The people in the village were very friendly and we enjoyed our time here. After leaving Dolgellau we headed to Barmouth. Barmouth is beautiful. It was lovely to see the Atlantic Ocean and ... read more

We've just been out for lunch with Mum and Dad (at the pub they go to every Sunday for lunch), to celebrate Dad's birthday. Very nice too. Since its also Mother's day, it was a set 3 course meal, though only the boys had enough room for the pud! At the end, mothers received a packet of chocs from the management! That was nice. I'll also put on one or 2 pics of last weekend, when I poopped up to Leeds to see Sophie.... read more

We have had a lovely busy weekend, and now I'm beginning to think about getting ready for work. Just time to do a blog though. yesterday we joined in a big litter pick along the canal in Welshpool. The canoe club was there to attack from the water, and the canal society to do dry land. We collected lots of bags of rubbish which were collected by a dredging boat, so we didn't have to lug them too far. Today we went up to some woods to see a friend racing huskies - no snow, they have a trolley on wheels. I've never seen so many dogs, all chained up to long strings. We missed the morning races and were too early for the afternoon ones, but got the idea. It looks perilous to me. Shame ... read more

We've been on some lovely walks this week, and I took some photos. One day we went to Llanymynech and walked along and across dad's golf course with some friends. A part of this is along Offa's Dyke, an ancient earth work protecting England from the damn Welsh! He laughs that he can tee off in Wales and put in England! This morning we walked up to a derelict house in the hills near Meifod to see whether the wild daffodils were out yet. And some were. ... read more

As promised by the met men, it was a lovely spring day, so after walking the dogs and cutting the grass, we took ourselves over to the wood again and continued the tidy up. A friend has been with a chain saw to cut branches and some trees for next winter's fuel. We are left with a lot of bits and pieces all over the place - some of which is useful to burn, some which is not very! We've spent a good few hours already this winter clearing up, but there are many hours work left. Its a lovely task on a nice day. ... read more
