ended up closed for much of the day.
Last night was the third night in a row that it rained continuously, though the days have been nice - and today was lovely. Anyway, the rivers rose and took the usual shortcuts across the fields and over the roads. So the intrepid photographers set out to capture the drama! [View Full Entry]

Alex has just returned from a week in Cornwall with our friends Lynda and David. They rented a caravan near Padstow, and visited lots of interesting places. He took some good photos, and here are some. [View Full Entry]

here are one or two pictures, she looked pretty good yesterday. Haven't seen her today though - and now she's home. the hospital was good, though she claims the bed was uncomfortable and she was too hot. Anyway the job is done. And we saw the before and after x rays - and I can see why it was painful. My good friend Kate lives in Wrexham, and was able to provide lunches and resting periods in between visiting hours! Alex enjoying the show.
Alex and i went to the fair in nearby Bishop's Castle, which is a small town about 45 minutes drive away. The fair happens every year, and this is the 3rd time we've been. There is all kinds of street entertainment, as well as parades of vintage cars, tractors and steam engines. The children make lanterns and there's a lantern parade at night. And there's music and stalls, and a lovely atmosphere. so here are a few pictures .... [View Full Entry]

hurtling past the post on the old racecourse ..... and its Alex!
Alex and I and a friend - a different Linda - went for a lovely long walk yesterday on an old racecourse, which was built a while ago by french prisoners during the Napoleonic wars. That led us to the Offas Dyke path. King Offa was an English king about 1,000 years ago, who had a dyke (wall/rampart) built along the border with Wales to keep the Welsh out. It is still a visible monument for much of its length, possibly 177 miles, and there is a long distance footpath along it too. Maisie liked it too. [View Full Entry]

for one lucky hog.
Mum and Dad had spotted a hedghog in their garden in recent evenings, so I bought them a special hedgehog house as an early Christmas present, and hopefully it will sleep in there during the winter. I also bought a pack of hedghog food, including dried worms and maggots! Yummy! Here are spome pics of Dad putting the food out. [View Full Entry]

This was a big wheel and you had to stand to it. Better than the distaff apparently!
Alex, Lynda and I visited the open day of this old farmhouse which is slowly being restored to its medieval glory. Its up in the hills 10 miles from our house, and to reach it was a mile and a half walk - we certainly did our steps today! There were people dressed in the correct costume, to give a feel of what it was like. But they were outside because the house is a ruin as yet! They showed us cooking, gardening and archery. We all enjoyed ourselves, but I had to be at work very soon after we got [View Full Entry]

Joan, Gen, Sacha, Theo and little Ivor sorting themselves out before setting off up the hill.
After a downpour during the night - ensuring we missed the partial eclipse of the moon - , the day dawned bright and breezy. Our neighbour Joan has her daughter and 3 grandsons staying, and as they live in Brussels they don't come that often. So we decided to take the boys and Maisie for a kite flying session on Dolanog hill. It was just right, enough wind but not too much, and a good time was had by all. I know the pictures are not of us, but it shows you some scenery, and what fun we had. [View Full Entry]

this week to give Sophie's new flat the once over. Its very nice, not far from the last one but this one is in an old Victorian house beside the park, so there are lots of trees. Its a nice flat, and she has it looking very homely. We spent some time in Knaresborough yesterday, looking at the petrifying well, and walking round the castle. Some pics, but the well was under trees so its a bit dark. [View Full Entry]

Gregynog is an old house bequeathed to the University of Wales. The grounds are lovely, lots of specimen trees, and as its nearby, a good place for a walk. I met an ex colleague there today, for a picnic and a walk. Lovely. [View Full Entry]
