Well, our Christmas was busy but pretty quiet. Sophie and Tom came to stay from Monday to Thursday, and we walked the dogs and ate and opened presents and played games...... They were excited to leave as tom's mystery gift to Sophie was 2 days away - destination unrevealed (till this morning when he told her its Barcelona)As you will imagine, we spent a lot of time in Meifod. Mum and I spent a drizzly day in Oswestry today, looking round the shops. Back to work tomorrow evening - but only a short shift as the shop closes early. Happy new year to NZ and Australia. Oh, and Hodge!... read more
Well, I think I'll run a few events together for this one. Kate and I met for a walk along the canal and across the aquaduct at Chirk. there's a tunnel the other end, but Maisie wouldn't walk through (she lay down flat, so I couldn't even drag her) so we strolled back to the handy Chinese cafe, and had a tsaty lunch. That evening there was a Christmas decoration evening just up the road, so some frinde and neighbours attended that, which was really good fun. And then we all popped down to teh winter fair in Welshpool on Saturday - Sophie and Tom as well.... read more
Mum and I set off for Oswestry today, for a browse round the shops. We were very pleased to see that our favourite cafe had re-opened under a new name, but with the same staff. So we settled down for our usual bacon and egg muffin. Most of the Christmas craft fair had packed up by then - it was a truly gloomy day, so who can blame them. But we enjoyed ourselves.... read more
And this week I met up with three old High School friends in Birmingham, which is pretty central for us all. Its only 12 years since we last met - before that meeting we hadn't met since we left school 30 years earlier. So it was great to find that we still found the same things fun and got on well. We had a nice lunch and a stroll around the canals, and a quick look in the shops. 4 hours went by very quickly. We hope to meet again next year.... read more
It will soon be Lynda's 60th birthday - shh, don't tell the world. And she really wanted to be taken to Paris! So I turned up last Thursday morning (after David had told her to be ready for a taxi to a health farm) and carried her off to Leeds for 2 days as a surprise. We stayed with Sophie, and saw Opera North's Ruddigore, which is not really opera, but Gilbert and sullivan. It was a good 2 days.... read more
For her birthday I bought my friend Linda a book called "tea shop walks", and today we tried one out near Dolgellau. We had a lovely day, ate a picnic up in the hills and ended up in the town with a choice of tea shops. Mind you, I was glad to get back to the car! ... read more
Last week I drove down to Somerset to stay with my good friend Hilary. The weather was glorious and would have been hot in summer, let alone the start of October! We went to Wells and spent some time in the gardens, under the trees, beside the wells! And another day we picked up Hilary's sister Rose and walked in the Mendip hills. It was lovely. ... read more
It all happened this weekend! Alex won an award for all his help at the local children's hospice shop, where he cleans, polishes, sorts and irons items that have been donated. He had to go to a ceremony to receive it, but the photo is taken at home. I managed to park my car over the edge of the drive - how efficient is that. Luckily no damage, though I needed a truck to winch it out - fortunate I work at a garage! And (cousin)Janet and John popped down from Colwyn Bay to see Mum and Dad yesterday afternoon, so we caught up with all their family doings too. ... read more
although I've been back for a while, it's been rather hectic with garden produce, so I haven't got round to the blog! Sorry. Anyway, spent a few days with Kate and John in north west Wales, right on the coast. Then headed to Colchester for Sarah and Jen's 18th birthday party, followed by an "old" friends 60th in Kent - our mothers were at ante natal classes together, so we reckon we knew each other before we were born. Quite a lot of it was camping - luckily the weather was good!!!!!... read more
Phew. What a busy few days. Sophie and Tom came for 5 days, so we had a couple of days out. Then on Saturday night we had a barbie and invited a few neighbours - it was fun but rather a chilly wind. On THE day we all went for a meal at a local hostelry - which was lovely. And lots of lovely presents, good company, good food, what more could you want. Sophie has some lovely photos but I can't seem to get them on here. You'll have to look at face book. Sorry... read more
