over the aquaduct
talk about whistle stop! We drove up to the Lake District via the famous aquaduct built by Thomas Telford. What a spectacle - a stag party, dessed as pirates, had hired a boat for the weekend and amused themselves-and us- playing narrow boats. Then off to Ambleside, a pretty village on Lake Windermere, where we spent two nights in a most comfy b and b. We took a boat ride or two, walked 4 miles along the lake, ate chips by the lake in the sunset...........then set off for home via the Bluebird exhibition and Chester, where we stopped to pick up a hire car for Sue and Steve and run the 2 miles round the city walls. Reaching Meifod we stopped for tea at Mum and dad's, where Uncle Frank, Auntie Margaret, Martin, Vikki, Sarah and Jen joined us all for a buffet and a gathering of clans. We all had a wonderful evening.
The baton is now taken up by Liz and Jerry, as the roving cousins head for Devon and Cornwall - though they'll be back next weekend!
