Yesterday Ineke and I decided to go to Aber for the day. She wanted to see an exhibition of wildlife photography there, and I thought that would be fun too. On the way home we had tickets for a concert in Newtown, so we were out a long time.... read more

Today I did a good deed to help the freshwater pearl mussels who (maybe ) live in the River Clun in South Shropshire! The banks of the river had been eroded, and the mussels like tree cover. So 6 stalwarts from the Severn Tree Trust set out and planted 100 trees today, all along the banks. I hopoe the mussels appreciate our efforts. As I don't often go that way, I made a detour or two on the way home to visit Hopton Castle - which is more of a fortified house than a castle really, and Bury Ditches - a neolithic hill fort. It was a lovely day, and I felt I'd done a "useful thing"... read more

Sophie and Tom were here for the weekend, so we took advantage of sunshine - with 2 heavy showers! and walked beside the river at Pont llogel. On teh way we saw the most beautiful rainbows, which ended in the verge beside the car, and moved along with us as we drove. Several customers at work also said they'd seen the rainbow's end close enough to touch. Usually its miles away, and retreats as you go forward.... read more

Well, our Christmas was busy but pretty quiet. Sophie and Tom came to stay from Monday to Thursday, and we walked the dogs and ate and opened presents and played games...... They were excited to leave as tom's mystery gift to Sophie was 2 days away - destination unrevealed (till this morning when he told her its Barcelona)As you will imagine, we spent a lot of time in Meifod. Mum and I spent a drizzly day in Oswestry today, looking round the shops. Back to work tomorrow evening - but only a short shift as the shop closes early. Happy new year to NZ and Australia. Oh, and Hodge!... read more

Well, I think I'll run a few events together for this one. Kate and I met for a walk along the canal and across the aquaduct at Chirk. there's a tunnel the other end, but Maisie wouldn't walk through (she lay down flat, so I couldn't even drag her) so we strolled back to the handy Chinese cafe, and had a tsaty lunch. That evening there was a Christmas decoration evening just up the road, so some frinde and neighbours attended that, which was really good fun. And then we all popped down to teh winter fair in Welshpool on Saturday - Sophie and Tom as well.... read more
