Dad had to take the car to Shrewsbury for a service today, so Mum and I took ourselves to Welshpool for a coffee and a look round. It was lovely in the sunshine. I couldn't resist collecting firewood on the way home, and had to squeeze it in round the wheelchair. Later we went for a walk on Dolanog hill, and Maisie made a new friend, Claire's puppy called Poppy. She must be getting old, as there was never a growl at all!!!... read more

Last night, our neighbour brought up the trailer full of wood that we'd loaded on the back field over Easter, and tipped it outside the front door (as requested!). Unfortunately, after weeks of dry sunny days, it poured with rain and we had to move it because we couldn't drive up to the house! So I got rather wet in the morning and Alex in the afternoon, when he got home from work. ... read more

'Croeso i Gymru - Welcome to Wales', said the road-sign as we crossed the boundary from England into the land of daffodils, leeks and red dragons. Then, the heavens opened! That was last September, when we came to look after our son's house, dog and cat while he took his family away for a well-earned holiday. Exactly the same thing happened on our way here again last week! The only difference so far is that, last September, the torrential rain was replaced by a succession of mainly sunny days (when the accompanying photos were taken). As I write now, at the end of May, our car is getting a daily wash to rival anything that the local filling station could provide with their Jet Wash machine. It’s also so windy that the resident jackdaws hover almost ... read more

Our old girls suddenly seemed to have run out of eggs, having managed to keep the supply going through that very cold winter. So they deserve their retirement (I suppose). Thus Joan, Alex and I took ourselves to a nearby farm whose hen shed was being "emptied" tomorrow, and rescued 6 old(ish) girls from a grisly fate in a soup factory, and carried them off to a new home - hen house 2 - where they seem chatty and comfy. Not allowed out for a few days though! Today we had 4 eggs. ... read more

After a browse round Welshpool yesterday - there are lots of birthdays in the beginning of May - we treated ourselves to coffee at the well decorated Inglenook cafe. Then a walk in the woods at Pontrobert. More glorious sunshine today saw us in the bluebell woods, the scent is wonderful. ... read more

What a wonderful Easter weekend. Sue and Steve arrived back after their tour of Cornwall, Sophie and Tom popped down for a couple of days, the weather was better than the Med, and we had a lovely time. Eggs were painted and rolled down hills, wine was drunk, traveller's told their stories, next winter's firewood was collected and thrown onto an awaiting trailer, orchids were remarked upon(though other people's camera's took much better pics than mine), a steam train was ridden on and a castle stormed. Busy or what. Sit back and see what we did.... read more

Happy Easter everyone. We hope you all had a great day. Today was another great day. We thought we would have a relaxing and quiet morning until we discovered there was a steam train departing from Llanfair going into Welshpool. Steve and I had hoped that we may be able to have a ride on the steam train so we quickly got organized and then Carrie kindly dropped us to the Station. The little steam train took us along the river and through the fields and into Welshpool. The trip took about 50 minutes and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were met in Welshpool by Uncle Roy and Aunty Gwen who, very kindly, took us out to lunch at the Lakeside Golf Club. We had a wonderful lunch and were absolutely spoilt. THANKYOU AUNTY GWEN AND ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » Wales » Powys » Brecon April 23rd 2011

This morning we woke to another beautiful and sunny day. We took a drive around Abergavenny and then drove onto Brecon in the hope of having a ride on one of the long canal boats. Sadly, as we drove into Brecon and struggled to find a park, we watched the canal boat pulling out :( The next ride was at 2.30pm which was too late for us. Not to worry, we had a lovely long walk along the canal. I also had time to just sit and relax in the shade, on the bank of the canal, and write some postcards - 20 of them. Ummmm.....don't hold your breathe as I have not been able to get a chance to post them yet! Steve and I then had a wander up through the town. Brecon is ... read more
