Our old girls suddenly seemed to have run out of eggs, having managed to keep the supply going through that very cold winter. So they deserve their retirement (I suppose).
Thus Joan, Alex and I took ourselves to a nearby farm whose hen shed was being "emptied" tomorrow, and rescued 6 old(ish) girls from a grisly fate in a soup factory, and carried them off to a new home - hen house 2 - where they seem chatty and comfy. Not allowed out for a few days though! Today we had 4 eggs.
