Soon we were barreling back down the tube to Heathrow and collecting our bags for the last leg of the trip. We checked into South African Airlines and boarded a very packed plane where we would spend the next 10 hours in close confines. Needless to say sleep was not easy, nor comfort. We did get fed but we were so tired we passed up most of the offerings. I wonder if anyone else finds it extremely difficult to use a plane restroom when you are required to have your knees behind your ears....? Morning and arrival into Johannesburg did finally come and once again we were herded like cows into a stockade and led through customs. I think the sour disposition and displeased looks are a trait all countries use to hire their custom officials. ... read more

Thursday February 9, 2012.....We landed at 8 am (U.K Time) the next day in London and after what seemed like an hour of wandering through miles of empty terminal, we made our way through customs. NOTE: Either they spend many hours training their agents to look bored and disinterested or they must only hire those who can already maintain a totally disaffected look. In fact we saw one agent who performed a remarkable eye roll and glare when a traveler ahead of us was directed to her desk. Quite amazing really...she was able to make all the passengers in line cringe and shudder. I do believe I saw one or two older passengers cross themselves and mumble a quick prayer to the saint of air travel not to get sent to her. Once allowed ... read more

So I am safe and settled at my hotel by Heathrow airport for the night. The second plane ride was really enjoyable, but I did not sleep at all. I ended up watching the first "Sherlock Holmes" movie, an episode of "Arrested Development" and the beginning of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2". I also had a delicious meal and a very comfortable seat. I had to wait for about an hour to get through customs, but after that it was easy to get to the hotel. I pushed through my exhaustion and headed straight downtown after I dropped my stuff off at the hotel. I went to buy a few things at Primark and postcards to send to people and got a lunch at Pret. Then, I went to Harrod's to see the ... read more

So we have checked in and are enjoying a glass of champagne and a packet of quavers in the lounge. Most definitely getting excited about the trip now. Just making the most of the Internet here before leaving and puzzling over how to get photos to upload to the blog from the iphone. Think of us for the next 27 hours ... We should be arriving round about tomorrow evening uk time. F... read more

I really thought about writing a blog but I've never really started. So today is the day!!! Lets see how it goes in the future.. Actually I have no any travelling plans in the nearst future but first I would like to say something about my travelling in 2011. One of my New Year's resolutions was to travel more and to explore new places, new countries. Now the year is going to end and I think I really made it. Summary: 7 countries - Portugal, Ireland, France, Monaco, Denmark, Mexico, Turkey :) PORTUGAL ( 19 - 23.03.2011) I have been to Porto which I think is really lovely city. The weather was great I couldn't expect that.25 degrees in that season , that was something. I stayed in bed and breakfast hotel called 'Faria Guimaraes' which ... read more

Having negotiated too much luggage to the check in and survived the security checks, Terminal 3 on a Friday night is a familiar collection of motley passengers all in various states of anticipation and/or disrepair. I’ve been here at this time three times so far this year – but this should be the last such trip of 2011 and thus the last visit to soulless confusion of The Bridge for a pre-flight drink.... read more

Blogged in London, posted in Hong Kong due to 'technical difficulties'! Well the first (and shortest!) leg of the trip is done and I'm sat at heathrow T5 (Oooh fancy curvy roof) waiting for the next leg to Hong Kong. Highlight of the trip so far? The huge advert by the departure gate at Manchester airport for use of the ringway visitor park as a conference/wedding venue (they have Concorde there dontcha know?) with the claim of 'high standards and attention to detail' followed closely by 'complete event managment'. Anyone spot the deliberate mistake?! Methinks their attention to detail claim may be subject to review by trading standards...! So an hour to go (I have Alan Partridge to keep me entertained, although sadly only in paperback) and then I'll leave the shores for (hopefully) warmer climes!! ... read more
