Tuesday, 26th July, 2011. Went along to the British Disabled Water Skiing Association's 'Open Day' held on Heron Lake, at The Tony Edge National Centre, Hythe End Road Wraysbury, Middlesex TW19 6HW ( it's just off junction 13 of the M25 near Heathrow Airport) We had taken 'T', our youngest child who has various disabilities, skiing here a few years ago. Both he and we enjoyed it at the time but, because of problems with our cars, had not managed to get back. And, owing to an oil pump seal failure on our ancient Megan Scenic, it was touch and go whether we would make it this time! However, thanks to the efforts of Roo and the staff at Blackboys Garage, who fixed it super fast, we managed to make the event, albeit very late, but ... read more

This morning I woke up, looked out our window to see our luggage being off-loaded directly below us. We went to our last breakfast at the Lido Restaurant and sat at our favorite breakfast table. Gathering at our debarkation point, our Road Scholar group left the ship together and boarded our coach to Heathrow airport. After a surprisingly long ride we arrived at Heathrow and began the "rat maze" of departure. You know, find the right terminal, get your luggage off the bus, walk in to check in, get in line (only the beginning!!) Crowds of people, all looking to find their correct airline, check-in line, weighing of bags, security line, departure gate, departure time. ACH!!! At last, we're at the gate and find a student group of about 35 (all with their orange back packs) ... read more

As every American wass pissing it up for the 4th of July, I had a massive goodbye supper of roast beef and yorshires (spilling gravy down my top), waved goodbye to the fam and left Greystones to start my 8 week trip. Departure was only marginally delayed by Roly vomiting in the sitting room...anyway, got the train to London and was met at Liverpool St by Simon. Early night and hideously early start, before spending 15mins convincing check-in staff my first name is not actually 'Elizabethrosemiss'.... read more

And so back to the Republic for a further dose of scenery before we leave Ireland. We drove down to Kilkenny, via a very rainy and cold Bru na Boinne. This neolithic bunch of tombs is 500 years older than the pyramids, and it wasn’t the first time that we were reminded just how old civilization is on this island. Our Kilkenny hosts were Vicky and Patrick. They were very hospitable; we felt almost like part of the family after Patrick gave us Saturday breakfast with an account of his Friday night on the piss, then Vicky gave Sharon just about her entire life story, everything from a young marriage to the five children to the fun and foibles of running a B & B. We also got (and from a lot of people we spoke ... read more

Hello! Well, as far as I can tell, our team should be boarding their plane to Chennai as I write. Their flight from Chicago got in a few minutes early, around 7am UK time, and now their next flight is on time, departing at 1pm UK time (around 8am our time.) Please keep them in your prayers! This is the 10 hour flight! Some great experiences await them in India. Love Jen W... read more

THIS IS A PICADILLY LINE SERVICE TO (HINT OF A PAUSE) COCKFOSTERS. This was just about the first formal words we heard when we arrived 8 weeks ago in London. The reprise hearing of this line this afternoon as we caught the tube after our flight from Ireland, had a poignancy tinged with equal parts sadness and exhaustion. We are both very tired. Somehow this has been more exhausting a tour than last time. I suspect it’s because for the latter part of our last trip we were “based” in various places for up to a week. We have been on the go solidly for 7 weeks. If the purpose of a holiday is to make you forget things like work then this has been a very successful holiday. I have given work hardly a thought ... read more

Set off on our travels on 23rd April 2011 arriving in Perth Western Oz after a brief stop in Singapore Changi Airport at just gone midnight on 25th April. Spent two nights in North Lodge backpackers before hiring a Camper Van 'Dirty Sanchez' from Travelers Autobarn for 3 weeks setting off on our trip along the West Coast! After spending a night in Scarborough in a car park over looking the beach, we took the Indian Ocean Drive (which gave us some awesome views of the huge west ozzi coastline) towards Exmouth. First stop was Dongara arrived there pretty late on after a 5 hour drive, dawned on us that Oz is massive and gonna take a while to get anywhere! Stayed the night camped just outside of the Town were caught & given a bit ... read more
