Now where were we? Ah yes dear reader, sat on a plane at Heathrow not able to go anywhere and a baby was now ill and calls were being made for medical professionals on board. It transpires that medical staff were sought from the terminal and duly arrived with police in tow - most strange you may think, but we didn't know the half of it. Upon cabin crew putting out a call for help over the tannoy some Nutty Noreen had offered help to said sick child and proceeded to smear loads of herbal cream all over the cherub, so much so it started having breathing difficulties!! Paramedics came on board and took child and parents away while police handcuffed Noreen and arrested her for child abuse - you just can't make this shiz up. ... read more

Bordeaux is a wine connoisseur’s dream with chateaus and wine cellars (plus sellers) surrounding the city famous for its red wine. Arriving via the Garonne River in southwestern France's Gironde department (state), we discover low lying farm lands, not surprisingly occupied mostly by vineyards, lining both banks. The city slowly appears which with its 1,105,000 inhabitants, constituting the sixth largest urban area in the country. Home of the industry's main wine fair, Vinexpo, the wine economy in the metro area moves 14.5 billion euros each year. Bordeaux wine has been produced in the region since the 8thcentury and currently produces 960 million bottles from 13,000 grape growers on 287,000 acres of vineyards. From table wine to premier cru (read “expensive”) the product is carefully marketed in true French bureaucratic style to the extent that the number ... read more

I have always wanted to visit England & Scotland and through my job at Rostad Tours I now have that opportunity. After a overnight flight I arrived in London a day earlier than our group, so I decided to visit the office of JacTravel, our local tour operator in England & Scotland. After a 9 hour flight and checking into my hotel room I headed back to the Heathrow Airport to embark on my first "Tube" ride. It is quite the experience compared to our paltry above ground LRT system in Calgary. I have never been in an underground system before so it was very interesting indeed. I didn't realize that London's "Underground" is also above ground as well so it was nice to see the different neighbourhoods flash by. My vision of a subway system ... read more

initiating relationships is never an easy task.. often tense + nervy, it asks an awful lot questions of ones ego + sense of self worth not to mention the fear of rejection. meeting a new city is always an epic thing.. some ppl believe planning is the best way, others are a little more reckless + on the edge.. we got off the plane collected our bags + spent several minutes trying to work out how to get out of the airport as we didn’t follow the crowd.. on this occasion we wish we had. scottish in heart, scottish by nature we decided to make our own + cheapest way to our accommodation. we were jetlag tired + not all that keen on carrying our backpacks all day.. so we scrambled underground + boarded the first ... read more

Up at 3.30 to start the long journey to Australia. Taxi turned up on time and dropped me off the bus stop and it was there that I had my first hiccup. Tried to get on the bus using my first mobile ticket but the driver did not have me on his manifest. He kept looking at my ticket and it was the. That I noticed that the date was the 5/5. Tomorrow. I'm not sure if he noticed that but he let me on anyway, which was a relief. No begging necessary. Slept a bit on the bus and arrived at Heathrow. Checking in was painless so at least those e-tickets worked Ok. Security was the next obstacle. The big shock was my arm did not set off the metal detector. I think the guard ... read more

Dear all, I won't be starting my travel blog with news of our arrival in a stunning hot location. No I'm starting it in the stunning Heathrow airport. We got here in plenty of time even though the great British weather decided to send a huge rain storm, a massive reminder of why we are leaving! Anyway we checked in with no hassle and then Ash made a very exciting discovery that he wasn't expecting....a Wagamama! So off we went for more Asian food even though it will soon be our main diet in Singapore! Then we discovered that we won't actually be leaving at seven, it's looking like about nine at the moment. So here we are waiting now. I am already a bit fed up of sitting down but sadly it has to be ... read more

London was an over cast 4 degrees when we landed at T3 06:35. Took over an hour to get to T5 and go through security - again! Don't know why domestic passengers couldn't use the ePassport scanners and face cameras: their 3 lanes were empty most of the time. Badly in need of freshening I bought mini shaving accessories from Boots, then mouched round Duty Free. Sampled some moisturiser and after shave, then was not rude by refusing a shot of whiskey - as you do We found ourselves buying 1.2kg of Toblerone - don't know how that happened - not all for us though.... read more

Got to Heathrow at 20:00, we had only what I thought was 30 mins to get to our Qantas check-in before it closed. Time to get skates on. Luckily I was sat next to an experienced BA flight service manager and he told us where to go to when we got off to transfer terminals from T5 to T3. After what seemed a 2 mile walk, we found where to get the transfer bus. Buses for other terminals came and went, before ours came. The queue of 8 got on the bus, when the driver decided to let us on. Then he was being far too accomodating, waiting for other passengers before departing. At a crawl of 20 miles an hour, we got to T3 eventually and rushed to get past through the shopping area No ... read more
