An easy morning, sticking, cutting doing the scrap book. Then lunch at Das Franco with an Italian waiter that had forgotton how to be a friendly Italian, and then on to start Heinerfest properly. Oh the excitement, fire engine rides, princess carriages that fly in the air, big wheels thrice, swinging chaires and a mini roller coaster - all going really well until the house of fun turned into the house of horror as Onita got stuck between to spiralling punch bags, Asha screamed at the spraying underfloor stuff, and Jay fell on top of the moving walk way. Thank goodness for our very own super hero who saved us, carried us out and then spent ages calming us down. Back to safer stuff like bratwurst and chips, beer and the Ratskeller with friends ....... and ... read more

Hello, absolutely worn out after a Big Day Out in Berlin! Started at the Brandenburg Tor, saw the Holocaust Memorial, the site of Hitlers´Bunker, the Berlin Wall, the death zone, Checkpoint Charlie, The Terror Memorial and the Island Museum. It was a walking tour and the tour guide was very entertaining. I had a haircut at the Arkade-Potsdamer Platz after the tour, then went to the Tiergarten which is where Berliners hang out on hot days, literally, so I´ve been told lol! The gardens are huge so we spent about half an hour there, then stopped at a cafe to try a Berliner Weiss Beer, flavoured with syrup and red in colour, something different. Later this evening, probably after we have stuffed ourselves with saurkraut and sausage we will walk back to Checkpoint Charlie, about a ... read more

Arrived in Berlin this morning (sun) after an overnight train from Brussels...very tired from the prison-like accomodations of the train beds. Our time in Amsterdam went by very quickly, there is too much to take in in such a short period of time...basically, we kicked things off by heading off to one of the many city squares where people congregate and mostly just puff down heaters or hit up the dope. Having a rough of idea of what to expect in the red light district, we were pretty much astonished at the overwhelming display of debauchery that awaited us when we by chance came across one of its many allys. Well past midnight, it was like walking down the strip in Vegas except that here the hoes were in the windows and were way better looking! ... read more

I spent the majority of the weekend in the downtown area as all of our kids are out and about with their host families. On Saturday, I made my way via S-Bahn to the city center. I spent the day scouting points for our "Amazing Race" and viewing the sights. It was a very warm day, and I spent a lot of time on foot in between stints public transportation, which is EXCELLENT here in Hamburg. I made my way by train, on the tube, by bus and by water taxi, which is all covered on one 5 Euro ticket! Today my host family took me to the German Emigration museum. It was very cool to see "the other side" of American immigrants. People came from all over Europe to Hamburg for various reasons. Here they ... read more

Out of bed, after little sleep, into the car to find the nearest motorway services for breakfast ..... oh lovely french croissants even in a motorway services, remind us never to buy that pre-packaged stuff again in the UK. And then four hours of, how long until we get there from Asha, and how long is 4 hrs, 3hrs, 30 mins, and endless spotting's on windmills and train tracks from Jay. O tried to have a sleep, but too excited really, Jay grabbed 30 mins, missing out on a bratwust "car lap" lunch, to which Asha said "mmm, this is yummy food isn't it, but then hardly ate it because of all the excitement. And then the inevitable happened with two, down on sleep, stuck in a car for the best part of the day, with ... read more

We finally made it out of Berlin, and we managed that in a manual car and just a road map. We decided to stop enroute to Dresden along with all the other grey nomads and their campervans. It was quite a success, even if it took a little while. The beauty of the car was that we were able to stop on the way in some great little places, an example of this was Meissen. It was a compact, perfectly preserved old town with a great river which people would swarm in and picnic by in the sun. We had a quick stroll around the town, tasting the yummy ice-cream, seeing the Albrechtsburg Cathedral and 15th century palace. When we finally made in into Dresden which was wonderful. Dresden is a town that was almost completely ... read more

Munich was the land of large food and larger beer - just the way Steve likes it! We went on a really interesting walking tour and saw were Hitler and his 3rd Reich began. We wandered around the Marienplatz (town square) and watched the Glockenspiel with the life-sized figures dance aruond the clock. We enjoyed the oompah band while eating a traditional meal in the Hofbrauhaus. ... read more
